I've been playing a lot of MLB The Show recently, and was thinking that a Road To The Show log would be interesting, since most of the active logs are about teams rather than players. I know I said the Melonheads would be getting more updates, but I just don't feel like playing Backyard Baseball at the moment and I want something with a higher play:update ratio (yes, that's a thing). I've also never done a log that follows a single player before (other than that 1-player game) and thought it would be interesting.

Thoughts?

EDIT: 6 yes, 3 don't care, so I'll get working on the first post. I just finished making the player.

I say yes. There are never too many logs on this site and I've liked your past logs, too.

Do it, I love your logs, and RttS would be interesting to read about

Also, I bet half of the people who voted for the last option have no idea what the hell it means

June 5th, 2010

Yesterday was the MLB amateur draft, and I was drafted in the 8th round by the Cubs. Not my first choice for team, I guess, but needless to say I was thrilled to be drafted at all. Now it's just time to wait for a contract offer. My agent told me not to expect much.

I called up my parents and told them the news. My mom was happy for me. My dad was still against my decision to not finish college. I tried to work a "congratulations" out of him, but he wouldn't budge. He handed the phone off to my 10-year old brother, Jeremy, who told me how excited he was to tell all his friends about his professional baseball player brother. I told him I wasn't even signed yet. He told me I was awesome.

June 8th, 2010

After a few days of waiting (I guess they had more important draft picks to get to), today I was offered a 1 year, $30,000 contract that I was pretty much forced to sign. After I signed it, my agent, Tom Cahill, told me he'd gotten his hands on a scouting report of me. He asked me if I'd like to see it. I said sure.

Name: Colin Harper
DOB: 11/6/91
B/T: L/L
Positions: LF/CF/RF
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 195 lbs

Contact vs LH: 43
Contact vs RH: 47
Power vs LH: 39
Power vs RH: 41
Plate Vision: 40
Plate Discipline: 40
Speed: 40
Arm Strength: 40
Arm Accuracy: 35
Fielding: 35

Looking it over, I couldn't say I was too impressed with myself. Tom said 70 was average for a Major Leaguer, and to top it all off, he then informed me that the best player on the AA roster, just my luck, was the starting LF.

I've got a lot of work to do.

Hey man two things. The first thing that I want to address is how do they know a persons real life overall? That would be a serif thing to say. Second don't pull a Billy Beane!

Week of April 3rd, 2011

Well, Spring Training is done, and it's finally time for my first professional baseball season. I've been working hard through the off season, but wasn't surprised when I was told Jae-Kuk Seo would be the everyday left fielder. I considered asking if I could find more playing time in right field, but decided against it. I'll just have to wait for my chance.

Our first game wasn't actually until April 7th, and I managed to get in as a pinch hitter for the pitcher. I worked the count to 1-1, then took a fastball to center field for a hit in my first professional at-bat, and I eventually came around to score. I was happy. Manager Bill Dancy was unimpressed. We lost 6 to 2.

I sat out our second game, a win, and was surprised to find myself starting in right field on Saturday, in the clean-up spot at that. I made it a goal to just put the ball in play, and I ended up going 4-6 with an RBI in a 15-6 win. Granted, every hit was a relatively weak ground ball single, but I'll take that any day.

Next week, we finish up our series against Chattanooga, then head back to Kodak, Tennessee for a 5-game home series against the Montgomery Biscuits. Minor league team names are weird.

Stats
5-7, .714, 0 HR, 0 2B, 0 3B, 1 RBI, 3 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Standings
1. Carolina Mudcats - 3-0
2(t). Tennessee Smokies - 2-1
2(t). Huntsville Stars - 2-1
4. Chattanooga Lookouts - 1-2
5. Jackson Generals - 0-3

1. I'm not sure what you mean by this.
2. I'll try not to!

This is what I meant. Nobody would say that in real life. It just doesn't sound right. I'm just sayin'

Scouting terms. 70 is actually pretty good in scouting terms.

I mean that nobody says, "Hey that guy is a 70 overall!" in real life. You could say they're well-polished, power hitters, etc. but saying someone is a # overall just sounds weird

I see where you're coming from test, I too don't think that a scout would say something like: "Player X has an 89 overall!"

But this is a log, so it's best not to think of it as real life.
