January 5, 1969So another trade. This is what the news said:
"Cleveland Indians, Braves Agree to Trade:
Fans in Cleveland woke up this morning to learn that their team had traded 29-year-old minor league C Joe Azcue and 22-year-old minor league SS Lou Camilli to the Atlanta Braves. In return, the Indians will receive 35-year-old LF Tito Francona.
Azcue has a lifetime average of .259, has played in 675 games, and has collected 46 home runs and 256 RBIs.
As far as career numbers Francona has compiled a .272 batting average and collected 1317 hits, 119 home runs and 604 RBIs."
January 6, 1969Today, nothing happenned. We tried to trade Mack Jones. I was sad that I could not find a new location for him, but it is good.
January 7, 1969Nothing happenned.
January 8, 1969Nothing Happnned.
January 9, 1969We signed our assistant GM, Steve Frazier.
January 10, 1969We signed our bench coach, Paco Agguire.
January 11, 1969Nothing happenned.
January 12, 1969Nothing happenned.
January 13, 1969Nothing happenned.
January 14-19, 1969Nothing happenned.
January 20-22, 1969Nothing happenned.
January 23, 1969Something happenned. YAY! So here's the news:
"Carty Takes Tumble Down Stairs, Injures Shoulder:
Atlanta left fielder Rico Carty was injured yesterday when he fell down a flight of stairs at his home. Carty reportedly suffered a dislocated shoulder, along with other minor injuries, and is expected to be out of commission for up to 2 months."
January 24-31, 1969Nothing happenned.
Februrary 1, 1969So we have a trade. Here's the news:
"California Angels Ship Johnson to Chicago:
The California Angels addressed a concern today, coming to terms with the Chicago White Sox on a trade that will send 34-year-old LF Lou B Johnson from the Angels to the White Sox in exchange for 35-year-old RHP Dan Osinski and 21-year-old minor league CF Jose L Ortiz.
Lifetime Johnson has played in 610 games with a .262 batting average. Among his 502 hits are 89 doubles, 14 triples and 48 home runs. He also has scored 234 runs and driven in 223 runs.
In his 270-game career, Osinski's won-lost record is 24 wins and 22 losses with a 3.27 ERA and 372 strikeouts in 525.1 innings. He has been credited with 16 saves."
Februrary 2-6, 1969Nothing happenned.
Februrary 7, 1969We got a trade proposal from the Detroit Tigers. Here's the proposal:
"Trade Proposal from Detroit:
António Torres proposes the following trade:
The Detroit Tigers would send 27-year-old 2B Dave W Campbell to the Montreal Expos, getting 26-year-old 1B Bob Bailey in return.
You have 14 days to complete or reject the trade. Use the controls in 'Respond to Message' above."
This trade looked horrible at the time and still is. So I obviously rejected the trade.
Also someone has recently shot themself cleaning their gun.(Don't ask me how) Here's what the article said:
"Brown Accidentally Shoots Himself While Cleaning Handgun:
Ollie Brown will be spending some time on the disabled list after he was cleaning out a handgun when the weapon discharged. The bullet lodged itself in Brown's foot and he had to be rushed to the local emergency room. Manager, Preston Gomez, will be forced to find a replacement for the injured player for the next few weeks at least. Doctor's were able to remove the bullet, but Brown will be lain up for at least a month while the wound heals.
"Normally I'm very careful when I clean my gun," a disappointed Brown told reporters. "I guess it goes to show, you can never be sure with guns."
Team doctors are unsure whether or not this will have any long term effects on the right fielder's ability to play ball."
Februrary 8-March 2, 1969Nothing happenned.
March 3, 1969Today is the start of Spring Training.
"MLB News:
Spring Training Begins: During the offseason, ballclubs have signed new players they hope will infuse their teams with that winning spark and inspiration that will lead them to the proverbial Promised Land. Now it is time to get ready on the field. Spring training is vital in getting the club fine-tuned for a months-long campaign. It's a time for GMs to forge the best players in their organizations, because the 1969 season will soon be coming to a ballpark near you."

League News:
"League Takes Action, Marshall Suspended:
It was both entertaining and embarrassing to see. San Francisco left fielder Dave Marshall really got rowdy at Spring Ballpark yesterday in a game against the Chicago Cubs. It all started with a called third strike and ended up with Marshall being ejected from the game. In between he screamed at several umpires, kicked dirt on them and made several obscene gestures. All of this is frowned upon by the league office. Today they suspended Marshall for 2 games.
He could not be reached today for comment."

League News:
It seems that Fred Wenz is not going to play for a while. I know by this article here:
"Wenz Learns More about Injury:
The latest news from the Boston Red Sox clubhouse is this: reliever Fred Wenz is expected to be out of action for another 5 months. He has a torn rotator cuff, sustained on 03/16/1969. Wenz expressed a bit of relief. "At least now I know," he said."
Also, here is the list of career active extra-base hit list:

"Injured Koonce Out 10 Months:

April 2, 1989Ok, so I just don't want to tell you the rest of Spring Training. In all we had a losing record of 12-16.
Here's your big news:
CHICAGO-DETROIT TRADE-March 27, 1989:
"Chicago-Detroit Trade:
Ward for Campbell: The Chicago White Sox have made a deal sending 31-year-old 3B Pete Ward to the Detroit Tigers for 27-year-old 2B Dave W Campbell. Both sides are said to be pleased with the way the trade worked out.
Career-to-date Ward is hitting .254 with a total of 91 home runs."
The Mets have more bad luck with injuries and get more news of it on March 29, 1989:
"Latest Injury Report on Rohr:
The injury that has kept Les Rohr out of action since 03/26/1969 will keep him out a while longer. New York Mets officials made the announcement this afternoon. They said that Rohr is expected to miss at least 14 months with a torn flexor tendon in his elbow."
Well, the carreer hit list.(In 1989)-
"BNN Stats: Career Batting Leaders:
So, who is the leader in the Major League Baseball in career hits?
Ty Cobb, -, 4189
Stan Musial, -, 3630
Tris Speaker, -, 3514
Cap Anson, -, 3418
Honus Wagner, -, 3415"
A very small time trade happenned on March 31, 1989:
"Kubiak and Sisk Traded:
It won't turn either team into an instant contender or provide a huge franchise shakeup, but the Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres finalized a trade today. Oakland will send 26-year-old 2B Ted Kubiak to the Padres, while the Athletics will receive 26-year-old RHP Tommie Sisk and 20-year-old C Fred Kendall. "We think this is a deal that will help out both teams and we're glad to get it done," said the Athletics general manager). The trade is expected to be officially completed later today with the players to join their new ball clubs by the end of the day.
In his career Kubiak is batting .207 with 46 hits, no home runs, 16 runs scored and 13 RBIs.
On his career ledger Sisk has a 37-35 record with a 3.69 ERA. In 246 games he has recorded 4 saves and the 26-year-old has 366 strikeouts in 752 innings of work."
Provided to me yesterday, April 1, 1989 was this:

Also Jeff James was told and announced he had a season-long injury:
"James Out 4-5 Months:
Jeff James will have to wait a while longer. The Philadelphia reliever was informed this afternoon that he will miss another 4-5 months with a ruptured finger tendon. The injury has kept him off the field since 03/30/1969. Though James had hoped to return soon, he has no choice but to be patient. "Gotta stay focused," he said. "Gotta stay positive.""
Also, the
real home-run champ got a day-to-day injury:
"Aaron Day-to-Day with Injury:
Hank Aaron, Braves standout right fielder, will be sidelined for a while due to a bruised elbow. He was injured while being hit by a pitch in yesterday's game against the Dodgers. Aaron called it "a day-to-day thing" and said he hoped to be back in action soon."
April 3, 1989Well, I did nothing. Here's the news:
"Raymond Injury Update:
Claude Raymond could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Atlanta reliever told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 10 months because of a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. He hasn't played since 03/31/1969 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there.""
April 4, 1989Another trade, another day:
"Tigers-Royals Trade: Brown for Wickersham:
The Detroit Tigers swapped 26-year-old 2B Ike Brown for 33-year-old RHP Dave Wickersham and 22-year-old C Fran Healy of the Royals after what Kansas City officials would only characterize as "difficult" negotiations.
To date in his career, Wickersham has pitched in 249 games, piling up 13 saves with 611 Ks in 1073 innings. He has a record of 66-54 and a 3.65 ERA."
April 5, 1989Nothing Happenned.
OPENING DAY-MY FIRSTWell, here's the expectations this year:
"Personal Message from Owner Miguel Serrano: Season Expectation:
Gawain Basel,
Welcome to the new season. I hope that the off-season has treated you well! This is also a reminder that you should be able to achieve a winning season, playing better than .500 ball.
Good Luck!
Miguel Serrano"
Yeah right Mr. Owner. Oh, here's the MLB announcement:
"MLB News: Opening Day:
After a long "hot stove" season, full of wheeling and dealing and rampant speculation, Major League Baseball clubs have broken camp and are about to take the field. The rosters are set. The line-ups are set. Baseball is back!
The 1969 season starts today with these match-ups:
New York Yankees @ Washington Senators
San Francisco Giants @ Atlanta Braves
Los Angeles Dodgers @ Cincinnati Reds"
Stat of the day-
"BNN Stats: Active Career Batting Leaders:
So, who is the active leader in the Major League Baseball in career doubles?
Hank Aaron, ATL, 484
Willie Mays, SF, 446
Frank Robinson, BAL, 402
Al Kaline, DET, 386
Ernie Banks, CHC, 380"
And the last news is the Top 100 Prospects list, here's the top ten and the article:
"Top 100 Prospects List Published:
The season is about to start, so it's time to publish the annual Top 100 Prospects list. This year 22-year-old C Gene Tenace of the Oakland Athletics is the #1 prospect overall.
Here is the top 10:
1) C Gene Tenace, 22, Oakland Athletics
2) C Carlton Fisk, 21, Boston Red Sox
3) C Thurman Munson, 21, New York Yankees
4) CF Oscar Gamble, 19, Chicago Cubs
5) C Ted Simmons, 19, St. Louis Cardinals
6) LF Bernie Carbo, 21, Cincinnati Reds
7) RHP Tom Bradley, 22, California Angels

RHP Carl Morton, 25, Montreal Expos
9) CF Dusty Baker, 19, Atlanta Braves
10) RHP Pedro Borbon, 22, California Angels
You can view the full list in the Top Prospects Report from the reports menu (inside the league menu). The Top Minor League Systems Report has been updated as well."
I think I might trade for the Carlton Fisk kid and I might want that Dusty Baker kid to be a manager one day.(UNDERSTAND MY LOGIC)
Well, we couldn't do that, but we could do a trade:
"Montreal, Houston Trade Players:
The Montreal Expos have released a statement confirming the trade of 25-year-old RF Rusty Staub, 22-year-old minor league RHP Bob Reynolds and 22-year-old minor league SS Garry Jestadt to the Houston Astros for 20-year-old 1B John Mayberry Sr and 21-year-old RHP Tom Griffin. The deal was finalized today.
Lifetime Staub has played in 833 games, batted .273 with 57 home runs and 792 base hits."
Rusty Staub would have as much production John Mayberry had in his career. Also, all of the fans were mad at me for trading Rusty Staub. We are in rebuild now, but this trade was a prospect deal more than anything else. Ok, I did get Fisk. It was a pretty good trade for them. Here's the deal we gave them:
"Montreal, Boston Make Trade:
Montreal and Boston have made a swap. Players involved in the transaction are the Expos 25-year-old RHP Carl Morton, 25-year-old minor league LF Floyd Wicker, 20-year-old minor league RF Don Hahn and $100,000 in cash and the Red Sox 21-year-old minor league C Carlton Fisk."
Well, onto the next game.(I should've made these trades after so we won our first game.(OR DO WE?) Oh yeah, you should know that I put Leo Marrenttette designated and on waivers, and brought Tom Griffin into the Majors.
April 8, 1969-The First GameJerry Kenney has since gotten injured lifting weights:
"Kenney Injured Lifting Weights:
All ballplayers want to get stronger. Not a lot of them actively think about the dangers of weightlifting. The danger has become real for Jerry Kenney of the Yankees. Kenney was injured while going through his normal training routine today. While the injury itself is not thought to be too serious, Kenney will miss "a couple of days, at least" according to his manager Ralph Houk. "It wasn't pretty. He's more or less fine, but this should serve as an important safety lesson for the rest of the clubhouse.""
Also, there is another trade proposal:
"Trade Proposal from St. Louis:
Michel Massé proposes the following trade:
The St. Louis Cardinals would send 26-year-old RF Byron Browne to the Montreal Expos, getting 26-year-old 1B Bob Bailey in return.
You have 14 days to complete or reject the trade. Use the controls in 'Respond to Message' above."
And the awnser is no!
Ok, here is the first game after I tell you I claimed two players-Bill Mazeroski and Chris Zachary.
FINALLY, THE FIRST GAME:
Win Vs NYM, 10-6
Yep, we beat Tom Seaver. Ok, a real game update for once against the Mets.
April 9, 1969-The First Game UpdateSo, it was cool to see your team to win their first game against Tom Seaver. You gotta love it. Now, the second game was hard.
Key PlaysIn the top of the forth, two outs and Mack Jones on second, John Bateman hits an RBI single to score Mack Jones.
In the top of the fifth, one out and Mota and Sutherland on, Bob Baily hits a 2 RBI triple to score both.
In the top of the eigth, one out and one on first and third, Jim Fairey bunts and scores the run.
Key Player of the Game1.
Bill Stoneman-9 IP, 2 H(No-hitter broke up in the ninth), 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K.
Well Bill Stoneman made the newspaper and so did Roberto Clemente:
"Expos Shut out Mets, Stoneman Winner:
The final score was 4-0 in favor of Montreal. Leading the way to victory was Bill Stoneman, who shackled the New York Mets and held them scoreless on a 2-hitter."
"Clemente Gets 5 Hits:
"It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Pittsburgh right fielder Roberto Clemente said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 5-for-6 day against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium II. "I got some good counts and used the whole field." The Pirates had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 5-4. Roberto Clemente struck out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 11th."
Oh that article is old. Let me show you the good and big one:
"Montreal, Pittsburgh Confirm Swap:
The Montreal Expos have parted ways with 27-year-old 2B Marv Staehle and 30-year-old LF Mack Jones in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 34-year-old RF Roberto Clemente. The Expos general manager confirmed the deal in an announcement this morning.
Jones boasts a lifetime batting average of .253 with 578 hits, 95 homers, 353 runs scored and 297 RBIs.
Clemente has hit for a .312 career average and totaled 2389 hits, 184 home runs and 1008 RBIs."
Yeah, and everyone and Montreal hates me for trading Mack Jones, however everyone loves me for getting Clemente. We sent Loco Herrera kid to the Majors because of his nickname.(And he was better than the other guy)
April 10, 1969Well, I got a dumb trade request;
"Trade Proposal from Philadelphia:
José Blanco proposes the following trade:
The Philadelphia Phillies would send 30-year-old LF Deron Johnson and 22-year-old CF Scott Reid to the Montreal Expos, getting 26-year-old 1B Bob Bailey in return.
You have 14 days to complete or reject the trade. Use the controls in 'Respond to Message' above."
Yep, reject.
We won our game against the Mets, 5-3
Also this happenned:
"Lolich Sizzles, Cleveland Fizzles:
Detroit's Mickey Lolich breezed through the Indians lineup today, collecting a 4-hit shutout and a 4-0 victory along the way. Lolich fanned 9 as well.
"I didn't really feel like I had my game today," Lolich confessed, "but some days are like that -- you just gotta go with what you have.""
April 11, 1969We won our game against the Soxs in extras, 5-2. Roy Face blew his save, while Tug Mcgraw threw shutout innnings.
There was a fight in Houston and now another starting pitcher is on waivers:
"Fed Up With Losing, Larry Dierker Snaps: After another bad loss by his Astros today Larry Dierker, was not a happy camper.
Specifically, he took his frustrations out on his teammate, Frank Bertaina, getting into an "animated" argument in the clubhouse.
"It's his fault we're losing ballgames," said Dierker about Bertaina. "I was just trying to let him know that he needs to play better and he took offense to it."
Astros manager Harry Walker commented, saying that "boys will be boys," and continued by saying, "things like this happen when we don't win.""
Frank Bertaina has since been put on waivers. We will most likely claim him. Also Herman Killebrew hit a homerun and everyone is celebrating for no reason:
"Killebrew Tags Number 400:
400 home runs is a lot of home runs to hit. It's a number that very few players reach. Today Harmon Killebrew became a member of that exclusive club. He belted it at Anaheim Stadium against the Angels. But sometimes milestone homers don't win the game. The powerful Minnesota first baseman got all the headlines, but California came away with the victory. They beat the Twins 7-3.
During the postgame interview he told the press, "It's a big relief to get it over. I tried not to think about it, but it's kind of hard when you have a huge sign on the scoreboard staring at you every time you step up to the plate. The home run was nice, but I would have preferred to win the game."
His batting totals for the game showed 1 hit in 3 at-bats, 1 home run and 1 RBI.
The hardworking and dedicated Killebrew also said, "I'll celebrate a little with my family tonight but not too much. This is not the last home run I will hit. I think I have a lot of baseball left in me and have other goals. I'll get back to work tomorrow."
In his career Killebrew has played in 1536 games, batted .261 with 400 home runs and 1370 base hits."
Well, that was intresting. Yeah, I really don't care that much. We decided to claim Frank Bertaina.
April 12, 1969We have a 5-game winning streak and we won our game against CHC, 11-7. Also, Tommie Aggee has been injured:
"Agee Expected to Miss 3 Weeks:
Tommie Agee could soon be placed on the disabled list. The New York center fielder told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 3 weeks because of a knee sprain. He hasn't played since 04/10/1969 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there.""
Well here's some game news:
"Reed Too Tough, Blanks Cincinnati:
A pitcher's main job is to keep the opposition off the scoreboard and Atlanta pitcher Ron Reed did just that today in a 7-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. He gave up no runs in his start, permitted 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts."
April 13, 1969Well, our streak is over. At CHC we lost our game, 5-11. Now our waiver issue worked:
"Frank Bertaina waiver claim finished and executed successfully:
The Office of the Commissioner has informed you that your claim of
Frank Bertaina from the Houston Astros has been approved. The player is now a member of your organization. He has been designated for assignment."
Well here are the award's news:
"AL Winner is Robinson:
A battle-tested Frank Robinson declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 33-year-old Baltimore right fielder collected the AL Player of the Week Award.
He wrapped up the week with a .450 average, 9 hits in 20 at-bats, 4 home runs, 7 RBIs and 7 runs scored."
"NL Announces Player of the Week:
At the age of 34,
Roberto Clemente might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Montreal right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .483 batting average. For his efforts Clemente collected the NL Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 14 hits in 29 at-bats, no home runs and 4 RBIs last week in 6 games."
Also, the stat of the week is:
"BNN Stats: Single-Season Records:
Who holds the single season record in the Major League Baseball for intentional walks?
Ted Williams, -, 33, 1957
Adolfo Phillips, CHC, 29, 1967
Ernie Banks, CHC, 28, 1960
Roberto Clemente, MON, 27, 1968Stan Musial, -, 26, 1959"
Nice to see Clemente on there. Also the Power Rankings:
"Weekly Team Power Rankings:
