Backup outfielder Mathias MacKenzie, a midseason call-up, is batting .182 in 11 at-bats.

Better?

Cathaway Sends Johnson to Boston
July 13th, 2005
By Zachary Bluth

On the day following the All-Star game, Michael Cathaway finalized a deal with the Boston Red Sox, sending catcher Charles Johnson, 33, to the Sox in exchange for 34-year old catcher Doug Mirabelli and 21-year old first baseman Pete Grossman.

Johnson was playing well for the Rockies, but his $7 million contract was costing the team a lot of money. Mirabelli is a much cheaper alternative with his $1.5 million salary. Over the course of 2004 and 2005, Mirabelli has batted .281 in 192 at-bats with 11 home runs. A backup in Boston, he will get a chance to prove himself as a starter for the Rockies.

Pete Grossman, drafted in the first round of the 2004 amateur draft, is highly touted as a hitter but has struggled thus far, batting just .248 with 11 home runs in 88 games for the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox. The Rockies will start him at AAA, displacing the team's current starter at first, Tanner Lurie, who is batting just .225. Lurie will be demoted to AA.

Rockies In Trade Talks?
July 14th, 2005
By Zachary Bluth

According to rumors, Cathaway wasted no time after trading away Johnson and immediately initiated talks with Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski. Cathaway has kept quiet about the details, but among the names supposedly brought up were Tigers pitcher Ryan Techer (7-7, 5.04 ERA, 65 K), Tigers catcher/DH John-Carlo Stanton (.187, 2 HR, 32 AB), Rockies pitchers Denny Neagle and Brian Fuentes, and Rockies right fielder Dustan Mohr. Techer, who missed a majority of 2004 with an elbow injury, has struggled in his grand return to the stage. At the age of 40, he may look to retire at the end of the season if things don't turn around. Stanton, a rookie, was injured early in the season and has not seen much playing time. When he has played, he's struggled at the plate but shown flashes of power, which is expected to be his main attribute. Nothing has come of these supposed talks yet, but surely they will continue. It will be interesting to see if Cathaway ultimately makes a deal with the Tigers.

Giants, Tigers Make Trade
July 20th, 2005

Tigers receive:
1B Greg Rushton (.412, 1 HR, 34 AB)

Giants receive:
1B Carlos Pena (.314, 11 HR, 50 RBI)

A straight-up first baseman for first baseman trade, Pena will provide immediate production while Rushton represents the Tigers' future at first. The Tigers are currently 44-50 and are looking to rebuild, while the Giants, at 62-31, aim to continue to improve this year's squad. Pena is having a breakout season and will be in our division, so we'll have to look out for him next time we play the Giants.

7/22 @ PIT - W, 4-1

I apologize, but I've been spending so much of time playing Roller Coaster Tycoon that baseball games have kind of fallen out of the picture.

You guys want it all, don't you? :P

This probably won't see life until I'm done playing Power Pros and updating the Gunmen with some regularity.
