I wonder if that rule changed at some point in my lifetime. I think there used to be a game where I got saves in those situations.

Of course it could have been a game glitch, or it could have been a similar situation that wasn't exactly the same.

---

I should have recorded who my replacement players were when I was on, from memory, I can say that I'll have:

Dustin Pedroia
Johnny Gomes
Prince Fielder
Andrew McCutchen
Neftali Feliz (I think)
Fernando Rodney

I think for the other roles I just used random dynasty players that were in reserves earlier. I'll have to add new starting pitchers midseason, I didn't want to add one now because I already have someone to start next game and having a starting pitcher on the roster with full energy not playing is a waste of a game.

So I think I listed everyone important.

Season 8, Game 1:

Chicago Cubs at Boston Bruins

Cubs: 0
Bruins: 6

Jered Weaver was the story in this game, pitching on short rest because it was his last game before retirement, he still managed to pitch a complete game, not only that, but it was a 1-hit shutout. Fielder hit a 3 run home run to give him a comfortable lead, and before that, Gomes had a solo home run. Hamilton drove in the winning run with an early single.

Player of the Game: Jered Weaver

McCutchen: 1-4, 2B, R, BB, 2 K
Rollins: 1-4, BB, K
Wright: 1-4, 2 R, BB, 2 K
Fielder: 2-4, HR, R, 3 RBI
Pedroia: 1-3, BB
Hamilton: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI, 2 K
Davis: 0-4, 2 K
Gomes: 1-3, HR, R, RBI, BB, 2 K
Curtis: 2-4, RBI, K

E: J.Weaver

J.Weaver: 9 innings pitched, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts, win

Win: Jered Weaver
Loss: Matt Garza
HR: P.Fielder, J.Gomes

---

It's really annoying that the other pitchers and umpires all think Hamilton is the most dangerous hitter in the world when he's never really done anything yet. The pitchers always pick the corners perfectly and the umpires widen the strike zone immensely when he's up. Anyone else they have little problem putting a pitch right down the middle now and then. Gomes and Fielder got really hittable pitches, but Hamilton hasn't seen a good pitch in several games now.

Clay Buchholz will be replacing Weaver.

Season 8, Game 2:

Boston Bruins (1-0) at Chicago White Sox

Bruins: 11
White Sox: 1

Clay Buchholz pitched a good first game, going the complete game allowing just one run. Several Bruins players had home runs and the offense was more than enough to win. Romeo Curtis finished off his Triple Crown run, getting his 10th home run in this game.

McCutchen: 3-4, 2 2B, R, BB
Rollins: 2-5, 3 RBI, 2 K
Wright: 2-5, HR, R, 2 RBI
Fielder: 0-5
Pedroia: 2-5, HR, R, RBI, K
Hamilton: 3-5, 3B, 2 R, K
Davis: 3-5, 2 R, RBI
Gomes: 1-5, HR, R, RBI, K
Curtis: 3-4, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB, K

C.Buchholz: 9 innings pitched, 4 hits, 1 run, 9 strikeouts, win

Win: Clay Buchholz (1-0)
Loss: John Danks (0-1)
HR: D.Wright, D.Pedroia, J.Gomes, R.Curtis, A.Ramirez

---

It's hard to be angry at a player for going 3-5 with a triple, but seriously, why can I not hit home runs with Hamilton? Even when he does get a pitch right down the middle or up slightly, I'm power swinging but he just lines it on the ground for a single. He has more power than just about anyone I've used except Fielder and he's not doing anything with it.

It's also kind of a shame my team doesn't have anyone that can steal bases on it anymore.

Cole Hamels will be activated for the next game.

Season 8, Game 3:

New York Mets at Boston Bruins (2-0)

Mets: 1
Bruins: 10

The Mets had little offense and the Bruins had more, that about sums the game up. Gomes and Curtis had more home runs. David Wright played for both teams somehow, once tagging himself out and later grounding a double play ball to himself. Gomes now has home runs in all three of his first three games.

Player of the Game: Romeo Curtis

McCutchen: 1-4, R, BB, 2 K
Rollins: 3-5, 3B, 2 R, K, SB
Wright: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K

Season 8, Game 4:

Los Angeles Dodgers at Boston Bruins (3-0)

Dodgers: 3
Bruins: 5

The Bruins had a comeback win in a way that wasn't really their fault, they were down 3-2 when a home run tied it at 3, then, with the bases loaded and 2 out, Johnny Gomes hit a routine groundball to the third baseman, who threw it over the second baseman's head, and two runs scored making it 5-3. Neftali Feliz was brought in for the save because the situation was unexpected and their closer wasn't ready.

Player of the Game: Jimmy Rollins

McCutchen: 1-4, 2 K
Rollins: 2-4, HR, R, RBI, K, SB
Wright: 1-4, HR, R, RBI, K

The addition of Matt Cain completes the 2002 Draft Class collection.

---

Season 8, Game 5:

Miami Marlins at Boston Bruins (4-0)

Marlins: 6
Bruins: 7

The Bruins got a lot of power in this game, hitting several home runs, all but one being just solo home runs. The infield nearly blew the game in the 9th inning as Rodney went in with a 3 run lead and barely managed to work around the infields misplays to come out with the save. Rollins had 2 home runs, so I guess he must have figured a misplay to allow two runs would be acceptable.

Player of the Game: Jimmy Rollins

McCutchen: 0-3, R, BB
Rollins: 3-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI
Wright: 1-4, 3 K
Fielder: 1-3, HR, 2 R, RBI, BB
Pedroia: 0-4, 2 K
Hamilton: 3-4, HR, R, RBI
Davis: 0-3, RBI
Gomes: 0-3, K
Curtis: 1-3, R

E: A.McCutchen (makes no sense whatsoever, he didn't make the misplay, and no runners advanced on it anyway)

M.Cain: 6 innings pitched, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, win
Z.Greinke: 0 innings pitched, 3 hits, 2 runs, 0 strikeouts
A.Bailey: 1 inning pitched, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 strikeout, hold
N.Feliz: 1 inning pitched, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 strikeout, hold
F.Rodney: 1 inning pitched, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run (see error section for why this makes no sense), 0 strikeouts, save

Win: Matt Cain
Loss: Ricky Nolasco
Save: Fernando Rodney
HR: J.Rollins (2), P.Fielder, D.Hamilton

And I forgot to record who was retiring before that game, so this will be extremely difficult...

I think there was...
Jimmy Rollins
David Wright
Tucker Davis
Romeo Curtis
Several useless bench players
Case Royal
Benito Lugo
Andrew Bailey
Might have been more relievers I'm forgetting

There were 12 retirements in all, so I'm missing about half of them by name, but I'm sure there wasn't anybody important in there...

---

Replacement players:
Carlos Beltran
Hanley Ramirez
Eric Chavez
Joe Mauer
Dan Haren
Sean Marshall
Some no-name bench players and relievers, includes Mike Lewis, former DH, but I don't think anyone else is notable

---

Also, a short development update, Hamilton is now around an 85 overall, with power that's around the 90s.

Season 9, Game 1:

Boston Bruins at Boston Red Sox

Bruins: 15
Red Sox: 7

Dan Haren had a much better game than his stats would indicate, only allowing 1 real run and only allowing baserunners in two separate innings. All 6 of the Red Sox 9th inning runs would easily count as unearned if errors were scored on the umpires, as all the runs came with two outs when the umpire completely blew everything by giving someone a walk instead of a strikeout. Even the obvious error by the second baseman was scored a hit for no apparent reason. Really, Dan Haren gave up nothing but a couple triples in the complete game win if you overlook the obvious mistake by an umpire clearly paid off to attempt to ruin the game.

And I think the Bruins scored some runs somehow too.

Player of the Game: Carlos Beltran

McCutchen: 2-6, 3B, R, 3 RBI, K
Mauer: 2-6, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
Hamilton: 2-5, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, 2 SB
Fielder: 1-6, 2B, R, 3 K
Beltran: 3-5, 3B, 2 HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB
Pedroia: 2-6, R, RBI, K
Ramirez: 0-4, R, BB, 3 K
Chavez: 5-5, 2B, HR, 4 R, 3 RBI
Gomes: 2-4, 3B, R, RBI, BB

D.Haren: 9 innings pitched, 9 hits, 7 runs, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, win (see description for why these stats are way off of what they really should have been)

Win: Dan Haren (1-0)
Loss: Jon Lester (0-1)
HR: J.Mauer, D.Hamilton, C.Beltran (2), E.Chavez, D.Ortiz

Season 8, Game 2:

Boston Bruins (1-0) at Baltimore Orioles

Bruins: 15
Orioles: 1

A home run derby was held in Baltimore disguised as a baseball game. Virtually every run scored came in off a home run, the highlights being Prince Fielder's 3 home runs and Dougie Hamilton's 2 home runs. Clay Buchholz pitched another complete game, 1 run win. Chavez finally went an at-bat without getting a hit, in his third at-bat this game, but it was the umpire getting him out rather than a pitcher, after that, he couldn't do anything.

A total of 10 home runs were hit this game.

Player of the Game: Prince Fielder

McCutchen: 3-6, 2 2B, HR, 2 R, RBI
Mauer: 3-6, 2B, 3 R, RBI, K
Hamilton: 3-6, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, K
Fielder: 4-5, 3 HR, 4 R, 6 RBI
Beltran: 2-5, HR, R, 2 RBI, K
Pedroia: 1-5, K
Ramirez: 2-5, HR, R, RBI, 2 K
Chavez: 2-5, HR, R, RBI, K
Gomes: 1-4, 2 K

Update: Dougie Hamilton is now up to a 93 overall player.

And the replacement players are:
Jose Bautista
Adrian Gonzalez
Ryan Howard (DH)
Robinson Cano
Jim Johnson
Grant Balfour (with a name like Ball Four, he's expected to walk a few batters)

These additions complete the "Active Cover Men" and "Active HRD Winners" collections.

He probably would, but I forgot the Hall of Fame last year and I haven't really been keeping track of players too closely.

Maybe I should just have a list of players I've had that have been good, so there's no limit on them and if they're MLB players I can consider bringing them back in the future, if I ever want to.

If I want to do that, I can present the Hall of (at least) Moderate Popularity:
Gio Gonzalez
Ryan Zimmerman
David Ortiz
Jason Motte
Shawn Thornton
Case Royal
Prince Fielder
Neftali Feliz

I may need to come up with a catchier name for this Hall though.
