yeah, sorry, you're too late. I might make something work when the draft rolls around if I get that far.

Monthly Report
by Richard Griffin, Toronto Star
Wednesday, May 1, 2014

The first month of the 2014 season is officially over! Let's take a look at how things are going, both around the league and for the Blue Jays.

Standings

AL East
1. Orioles (14-13, 0 GB)
1. Blue Jays (14-13, 0 GB)
1. Rays (14-13, 0 GB)
4. Yankees (12-16, 2.5 GB)
5. Red Sox (8-19, 6 GB)

AL Central
1. Royals (15-10, 0 GB)
2. Twins (15-11, 0.5 GB)
3. Indians (12-15, 4 GB)
4. Tigers (11-15, 4.5 GB)
5. White Sox (9-18, 7 GB)

AL West
1. Mariners (18-11, 0 GB)
1. Astros (17-10, 0 GB)
3. Angels (14-13, 3 GB)
4. A's (13-15, 4.5 GB)
5. Rangers (12-15, 5 GB)

NL East
1. Phillies (17-10, 0 GB)
2. Braves (14-12, 2.5 GB)
3. Nationals (14-13, 3 GB)
4. Mets (11-16, 6 GB)
4. Marlins (11-16, 6 GB)

NL Central
1. Cardinals (19-8, 0 GB)
2. Brewers (16-10, 2.5 GB)
3. Pirates (16-12, 3.5 GB)
4. Reds (13-15, 6.5 GB)
5. Cubs (12-16, 7.5 GB)

NL West
1. Diamondbacks (16-11, 0 GB)
2. Rockies (16-12, 0.5 GB)
3. Dodgers (14-12, 1.5 GB)
4. Padres (9-17, 6.5 GB)
5. Giants (9-18, 7 GB)

As you can see, our Blue Jays are tied at the top of the AL East with the Rays and Orioles. Some surprises to talk about are the Mariners and ASTROS at the top of the AL West, and the Twins only a half game back of the AL Central lead. A lot of teams are disappointing at the end of the month, including the Yankees and defending champion Red Sox, as well as the Tigers, Rangers, A's, Reds, and Giants. There's still plenty of time left in the season for those teams to cover ground, though.

Now let's go over the Blue Jays. Let's see how the players are performing after 1 month of play, as well as take a look at some noteworthy minor leaguers:

Pitchers
R.A. Dickey (32.1 IP, 1-2, 6.40 ERA, 34 K)
Dean Stradley (34.0 IP, 2-1, 3.71 ERA, 39 K)
Moses Adler (32.1 IP, 0-1, 2.78 ERA, 19 K)
Danny Hopkins (27.0 IP, 1-3, 4.33 ERA, 33 K)
Marcus Stroman (30.0 IP, 2-2, 4.80 ERA, 35 K)
Juan Perez (15.0 IP, 2-1, 1.80 ERA, 16 K)
Austin Langer (14.0 IP, 2-1, 1.93 ERA, 11 K)
Stephen Brooks (10.1 IP, 0-0, 2.61 ERA, 15 K)
Jeremy Jeffress (6.2 IP, 0-0, 10.80 ERA, 11 K)
Todd Redmond (18.2 IP, 2-1, 2.41 ERA, 15 K)
Leo Vizcaino (10.2 IP, 1-1, 3.38 ERA, 11 K, 10 SV)
Chad Jenkins (13.0 IP, 1-0, 6.23 ERA, 4 K) (demoted to AAA 4/30)

Catchers
Dioner Navarro (.221 (17/77) /.259/.364, 3 HR, 5 RBI)
John Scott (.292 (28/96) /.324/.542, 7 HR, 18 RBI)

Infielders
Edwin Encarnacion (.347 (34/98) /.413/.592, 5 HR, 22 RBI, 4 SB)
Kent Murphy (.214 (6/28) /.281/.321, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 SB) (injured 4/13)
Ryan Goins (.269 (14/52) /.321/.519, 2 HR, 5 RBI)
Brett Lawrie (.306 (30/98) /.361/.510, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 4 SB)
Jose Reyes (.264 (24/91) /.313/.396, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 4 SB)
Michael Scott (.333 (5/15) /.500/.400, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 SB)
Munenori Kawasaki (.316 (6/19) /.381/.474, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 SB) (promoted to MLB 4/14)

Outfielders
Hayden Goldson (.271 (23/85) /.319/.541, 6 HR, 18 RBI)
Damon Allred (.098 (5/51) /.164/.157, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB) (demoted to AAA 4/30)
Mackenzie Matthews (.163 (8/49) /.226/.245, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 3 SB)
Anthony Gose (.192 (15/78) /.229/.231, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 4 SB)
Jose Bautista (.276 (24/87) /.312/.506, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 1 SB)

Overall, the Blue Jays are around the middle of the pack in most hitting stats as a team, though they are 3rd in the Majors and first in the AL with 36 longballs. The starting pitching could definitely use some improvement, as it appears to be the Jays' weakest area. Luckily, the bullpen looks to be the strongest part.

Now for the notable minor leaguers:

AAA [Buffalo Bisons (16-11, 1 GB)]
1B Luis Jimenez (.360 (32/89) /.436/.764, 9 HR, 32 RBI) (Blue Jays Minor League Player of the Month)
RF Todd Rosado (.305 (25/82) /.400/.415, 1 HR, 9 RBI) (promoted to MLB 4/30)
SP Yoshimitsu Tsuchii (27.1 IP, 3-0, 4.28, 15 K)
RP James Bennett (9.1 IP, 0-0, 3.86 ERA, 12 K)
RP Neil Wagner (12.0 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 17 K)
RP Lamont Cates (16.0 IP, 1-0, 1.13 ERA, 21 K, 4 SV) (promoted to MLB 4/30)

AA [New Hampshire Fisher Cats (19-7, 2 games ahead of 2nd)]
C A.J. Jimenez (.412 (28/68) /.468/.529, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 3 SB)
1B Pete Grossman (.310 (31/100) /.400/.560, 7 HR, 25 RBI, 2 SB) (injured 4/28)
1B L.B. Dantzler (.347 (35/101) /.416/.525, 3 HR, 25 RBI)
3B Lonnie Bradshaw (.235 (23/98) /.276/.388, 3 HR, 16 RBI, 2 SB)
CF Aatu Selin (.310 (27/87) /.380/.414, 0 HR, 11 RBI, 3 SB
RP Bobby Korecky (24.0 IP, 1-0, 0.75 ERA, 22 K) (promoted to AAA 4/30)
SP/RP Robert Tomlinson (18.0 IP, 4-0, 2.50 ERA, 17 K)
SP Darby Clancy (32.2 IP, 3-0, 1.93 ERA, 17 K)
RP Joel Rockwell (16.0 IP, 2-1, 3.94 ERA, 17 K)
RP Francisco Munoz (8.1 IP, 0-0, 1.08 ERA, 8 K, 8 SV)

So far, not a bad month for the Jays. The big club finishes the month tied atop the AL East standings, and the two minor league teams are performing very well so far. With all the preseason cynicism, this is a nice change of pace.

Created players are shown in BOLD.

If there's any other stats you want to know about (league leaders, specific unlisted stats for your player, how a certain non-Jays player is doing, etc.) don't hesitate to ask.

The draft is in the first week of june, if that's what you're asking.

I should go to a Fisher Cats game this weeks. It probably won't happen, but I should

I would, if I wasn't the only person around here who really cared about baseball

And yes, NH is in New England

Royals Acquire Wei-Yin Chen
by Steve Adams, MLB Trade Rumors
Sunday, May 5, 2014

Image

The Royals have acquired left-handers Wei-Yin Chen and T.J. McFarland and catching prospect Michael Ohlman from the Orioles in exchange for top prospects Bubba Starling and Raul A. Mondesi. Yordano Ventura and Donnie Joseph have been sent down to Triple-A Omaha to make room for the two pitchers.

Chen, currently 3-0 with a 3.54 ERA and a 9.63 K/9, will slot in as the #3 starter in the Royals' rotation. McFarland, the O's Rule 5 draft pick last year, owned a 3.00 ERA in 15 innings for their Triple-A affiliate. Ohlman had been serving as the Orioles' backup catcher, hitting .231 with 3 RBI in 39 at-bats. Ohlman will start his tenure in the Royals organization in Triple-A.

Starling was struggling at High-A, only hitting .237 with a .298 OBP, but because of the injuries that many Orioles outfielders have suffered, Starling will be promoted by the Orioles to Double-A Bowie. Mondesi will also be promoted to Double-A, but because of his stats. Mondesi was hitting .294 with a .349 OBP in High-A as an 18-year old. Both players are excellent fielders, as Starling has shown elite range, and Mondesi has a cannon of an arm at shortstop.

Interesting that a trade like this is happening at such an early stage in the season. It is also interesting that the Orioles would make a trade like this when they are currently in first place in the AL East.

So, combined with Bruce Chen, do the Royals have a double Chen in their rotation? *shot*

also did you make up the High-A stats or am I missing something in the game?

I made them up. They do have elite fielding ratings though.

Did you download the OSFM roster to have all these prospects like Starling and Mondesi?

(22-16) Blue Jays 4, (11-27) Red Sox 3

Late Rally Pushes Jays Over Red Sox
by Gregor Chisholm, MLB.com
Saturday, May 11, 2014

Image
BOSTON - Blue Jays players celebrate their comeback win.

The Blue Jays ruined an effective debut by Cuban righty Dalier Hinojosa today, rallying to defeat the scuffling Red Sox by a score of 4-3.

Both Hinojosa and Jays starter Moses Adler ran into trouble in the second inning, with Hinojosa giving up an RBI single to shortstop Jose Reyes for the first run of the game, while Adler gave up a 2-run homer to first baseman Mike Napoli. Both pitchers would settle down after that, each of them only giving up 1 more run, both instances being in the 5th inning. Adler went 5 innings, giving up 3 runs, which did keep his team in the game, but didn't really do any favors for his ERA, which currently stands at a 5.24 clip. Adler has to improve from this point forward or he could be heading down to Buffalo.

Meanwhile, Hinojosa went 6 innings in his MLB debut, giving up only 2 runs. He did give up an alarming 4 walks in the game, but the Red Sox should like what they saw from Hinojosa, who posted a 3-1 record with a 3.52 ERA in Triple-A Pawtucket.

The bullpen, however, was a major letdown. Hayden Goldson hit a game-tying opposite-field home run in the top of the 8th off Junichi Tazawa, his 10th of the year. Goldson is now tied with 3 others, including teammate John Scott, for the AL league lead. Edwin Encarnacion hit a go-ahead single in the 9th off Edward Mujica, giving the Jays the 4-3 lead.

Todd Redmond struck out the side in the bottom of the 9th for his first career save. Redmond was asked how it felt after the game.

"Y'know, just to go out and strike out the side felt better than the fact that I got a save. Especially since one of the guys I struck out was David Ortiz! Hopefully Gibby will throw me out there a couple more times in those types of situations in case Leo needs a day off. Anyways, it was a great win for us, and I believe this puts us back in first place, so hey! Even better!"

Reliever Lamont Cates also earned his first career win in this game. However, he was not reachable for an interview.

Also noteworthy, the Rangers have released former Jays starter Mark Buehrle after he posted a 5.89 ERA in 8 starts in Texas. Interesting to see which team will pick him up on the cheap.
