What's not to get? Rob Deer played back in the late 80's and early 90's and hit lots of homers but have a unbelievably bad average.

Week of May 8th, 2011

After getting Sunday off, we started our series against the first-place Huntsville Stars. I went 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the opener, but then sat out the next two games for unknown reasons. On Thursday, I picked up another four hits, including yet another double and my first triple in our 9-7 loss. By Friday morning, my batting average was up to a solid .272, and I was beginning to look more like I belonged as a starter.

Before our game on Friday, my little brother called and told me to keep it up for him. I told him I'd try, but as quickly as my short-lived hot streak had started, it had ended. I put up a huge oh-fer and struck out twice in our 5-4 victory. I called him up during our bus ride to Chattanooga and sheepishly told him that the win was for him, but he wasn't too comforted. I couldn't blame him.

In the first game of our series against Lookouts on Saturday, I went hitless again.

I really wanted to have it over .250 for this update. Oh well.

Derp, just noticed I didn't update OBP and SLG. Just a second.

GAH! C'mon man! You gotta keep the hot playing! Jeez, you were batting .272, now you are back down to .247.

It's actually .247, I forgot to change the percentages when I updated the stats. Hence the edit.

The hot streak didn't end. You batted .350 that week. I'd say that's a good week in my book

Week of May 15th, 2011

This week started off like any other; I went 1 for 3 on Monday and 0 for 4 on Tuesday.

I was 1 for 2 on Wednesday when I came up to the plate with a runner on first in the 5th inning. With the count at 1-1, I took a fastball deep to right-center field. I rounded first, then second, and saw the center fielder just picking up the ball. I kicked it into gear and went for third. Third base coach Steve Kowalski motioned for me to slide. I went down, and that's when it happened.

My foot hit the bag at an awkward angle, and I heard a snap. I tried to ignore it as I stood up, but as soon as I put weight on my right side I felt a shooting pain in my ankle. I felt sick. I tried to walk it off, but it only got worse. A trainer came out and helped me off the field with the help of Kowalski. I was sent for x-rays.

Waiting for the results, I grew increasingly worried. The swelling was getting quite awful, and I knew there was something wrong. I wasn't surprised when I heard the news. Just 40 games into my professional career, I had broken my ankle horribly. I was immediately placed on the 60-day DL. That night I threw up from a combination of pain and worry before calling my parents. They already knew.

My mom was sympathetic. My dad was incredibly pissed off. "These kinds of things don't happen at normal jobs!" he shouted. He cursed a few times before giving the phone back to my mom, who said my dad really did worry about me. I told her I didn't feel much like talking, and I went to bed.

So, now, here I am, in a cast with my crutches leaning against the table next to me. I might go nuts not being able to walk for these next two months, and I'm going to be limited in my time to impress the organization enough for a contract renewal.

All I can do is wait.
