All he added were the logos and a different font at the top. Not a huge difference. Not big enough that I really care either way

That's because you never care about anything.

This is also true

Monthly Report - June
by Richard Griffin, Toronto Star
Tuesday, July 1, 2015

The first half of the season is nearing its end. Let's see how everybody's doing now that June has ended:

Standings

AL East
1. Orioles (45-33)
2. Blue Jays (43-34, 1.5 GB)
3. Red Sox (36-40, 8 GB)
4. Yankees (32-46, 13 GB)
5. Rays (31-46, 13.5 GB)

AL Central
1. Royals (39-36)
1. Tigers (39-36)
3. White Sox (38-38, 1.5 GB)
4. Indians (35-40, 4 GB)
5. Twins (34-43, 6 GB)

AL West
1. A's (47-30)
2. Rangers (41-36, 6 GB)
3. Mariners (38-39, 9 GB)
4. Astros (36-41, 11 GB)
5. Angels (33-45, 14.5 GB)

NL East
1. Braves (42-34)
2. Nationals (41-35, 1 GB)
3. Phillies (34-43, 8.5 GB)
4. Marlins (33-43, 9 GB)
5. Mets (31-46, 11.5 GB)

NL Central
1. Reds (45-30)
1. Pirates (46-31)
3. Cardinals (44-32, 1.5 GB)
4. Brewers (40-37, 6 GB)
5. Cubs (28-49, 18 GB)

NL West
1. Diamondbacks (46-32)
2. Padres (39-37, 6 GB)
3. Giants (38-38, 7 GB)
4. Dodgers (38-39, 7.5 GB)
5. Rockies (36-39, 8.5 GB)

So far, the Blue Jays are 2nd in the MLB in home runs hit with 94, trailing only the Orioles, who currently have exactly 100 on the year. The Jays also lead MLB in stolen bases with 87 but have also been caught 32 times, the 3rd most in the majors (only the Brewers and Astros have been caught more, with 36 and 37 CS respectively). That puts their SB percentage right in the middle of the league, as their .731 rate is 15th among all teams. Jays batters have struck out fewer times than anyone in the Majors besides the Royals, and they have also committed the 5th-fewest errors in the Majors with only 24 miscues. As for pitching, the Jays don't really stand out anywhere (which is both good and bad) except for the fact that they have given up just 238 walks, the 4th-lowest total in the MLB and 2nd-lowest in the AL behind only the Indians with 224.

Now that we've seen the team as a group so far, let's see how the players are doing individually:

Pitchers
Moses Adler (98 IP, 6-5, 4.22 ERA, 84 K, 10 QS)
Dean Stradley (91.2 IP, 7-7, 3.83 ERA, 95 K, 10 QS)
R.A. Dickey (92.1 IP, 5-7, 3.90 ERA, 80 K, 7 QS)
Danny Hopkins (89 IP, 9-2 (T-1st in AL, T-2nd in MLB), 2.43 ERA (T-4th in AL), 112 K, 9 QS)
Marcus Stroman (89.2 IP, 3-7, 3.91 ERA, 119 K, 9 QS)
Kyle Drabek (48 IP, 3-3, 3.75 ERA, 44 K)
Austin Langer (33.1 IP, 2-0, 1.62 ERA, 27 K)
Stephen Brooks (16 IP, 0-0, 7.88 ERA, 19 K) (demoted 7/1)
Yoshimitsu Tsuchii (27.1 IP, 1-1, 3.62 ERA, 15 K)
Todd Redmond (25.2 IP, 3-1, 5.61 ERA, 34 K)
Dustin McGowan (44.1 IP, 4-1, 2.64 ERA, 55 K)
Lamont Cates (21.2 IP, 0-0, 2.08 ERA, 31 K, 21 SV)

Catchers
Dioner Navarro (.227 (30/132) /.290/.311, 1 HR, 8 RBI)
John Scott (.190 (38/200) /.250/.360, 10 HR, 26 RBI, 3 SB)

Infielders
Edwin Encarnacion (.270 (64/237) /.365/.506, 13 HR, 41 RBI)
Ryan Goins (.152 (5/33) /.176/.152, 0 HR, 1 RBI) (promoted 6/11)
Kent Murphy (.204 (58/285) /.231/.347, 9 HR, 34 RBI, 12 SB)
Brandon Hicks (.262 (17/65) /.360/.369, 1 HR, 5 RBI)
Brett Lawrie (.250 (57/228) /.329/.364, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 7 SB)
Ramiro Pena (.306 (64/209) /.381/.450, 6 HR, 36 RBI, 4 SB)
Jose Reyes (.265 (68/257) /.353/.432, 9 HR, 28 RBI, 19 SB)

Outfielders
Hayden Goldson (.234 (61/261) /.266/.421, 13 HR, 38 RBI, 10 SB)
Eury Perez (.208 (10/48) /.296/.292, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 2 SB) (promoted 6/11)
Anthony Gose (.285 (59/207) /.335/.411, 3 HR, 21 RBI, 19 SB)
Jose Bautista (.294 (74/252) /.381/.591 (3rd in AL), 20 HR (3rd in AL, MLB), 51 RBI (2nd in AL, 3rd in MLB), 2 SB)

As you should know, the All-Star Game is this month. Of all the Blue Jays players, it would appear that the ones with a decent shot to make the AL roster would be starter Danny Hopkins, closer Lamont Cates, first baseman Edwin Encarnacion (despite the slump he's currently in), shortstop Jose Reyes, and right fielder Jose Bautista. If Hopkins and Bautista can stay healthy and keep up this pace for the rest of the year, then they could be looking at even more accolades coming their way. That's a big IF, however.

Now for the notable minor leaguers:

AAA [Buffalo Bisons (37-42, 14 GB)]
1B/3B Brandon Laird (.289 (66/228) /.335/.456, 10 HR, 28 RBI)
2B/SS Michael Scott (.271 (16/59) /.362/.424, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 2 SB) (demoted 6/11)
LF Damon Allred (.239 (77/322) /.297/.444, 17 HR (T-1st in IL), 52 RBI (3rd in IL), 11 SB)
Mackenzie Matthews (.235 (40/170) /.327/.465, 9 HR, 28 RBI, 8 SB) (demoted 6/11)
RF Todd Rosado (.262 (67/256) /.365/.391, 5 HR, 30 RBI)
RP Joel Rockwell (19.2 IP, 1-1, 0.92 ERA, 23 K)
RP Leo Vizcaino (15 IP, 1-1, 1.80 ERA, 22 K, 2 SV)
RP James Bennett (40.2 IP, 3-0, 4.87 ERA, 45 K)
RP Hunter Strickland (41.2 IP, 5-1, 0.65 ERA, 44 K) (promoted to MLB 7/1)

AA [New Hampshire Fisher Cats (43-34, 1 GB)]
C Moses Ramirez (.150 (6/40) /.300/.200, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 2 SB) (promoted 4/29)
1B Pete Grossman (.309 (46/149) /.359/.550, 10 HR, 36 RBI, 5 SB)
3B Lonnie Bradshaw (.259 (60/232) /.299/.409, 6 HR, 42 RBI, 4 SB)
CF Aatu Selin (.323 (63/195) /.399/.467, 2 HR, 23 RBI, 6 SB (injured 6/8)
SP/RP Robert Tomlinson (43 IP, 1-1, 2.93 ERA, 21 K)
SP/RP Jake Jones (26 IP, 3-3, 2.42 ERA, 18 K, 2 SV)
SP Darby Clancy (86.2 IP, 4-5, 4.15 ERA, 53 K) (promoted to AAA 7/1)
RP Francisco Munoz (22 IP, 0-1, 3.68 ERA, 22 K, 19 SV)

Wow. By far one of your best updates. I like this format even better than the other two!

Hopkins Wins #10 as Jays Breeze Past M's
by Gregor Chisholm, MLB.com
Sunday, July 27, 2015

Image
SEATTLE - Hayden Goldson hits a 2-run bomb to left field.

The Blue Jays take the rubber game of this 3-game series in Seattle, defeating the Mariners by a score of 8-2.

Danny Hopkins continued his strong sophomore season, dominating the Mariners offense en route to his 10th win on the year, already surpassing his 2014 total in that category. Hopkins went 8 terrific innings, giving up an unearned run and only 1 walk and 4 hits. He also struck out 6 M's hitters. With tonight's gem of a start, Hopkins ends his disappointing July on a high note. At one point, his ERA crept above the 3 mark, but has settled now at 2.65 after tonight.

Hopkins' counterpart, fellow young right-hander Erasmo Ramirez, has had a much rougher go of it this season, but his start tonight wasn't all that bad. He only went 5 innings but also gave up only 4 hits and 2 earned runs (in addition to 1 unearned). If it weren't for 1 really important mistake, Ramirez probably could have lasted longer in the game and possibly earn a quality start. He did keep his team in the game, however, which is more than the Mariners' bullpen and defense could say.

That aforementioned mistake Ramirez made was giving up a 2-run homer to left fielder Hayden Goldson in the top of the 4th, which kicked off the scoring in the game and really seemed to light a fire in the Blue Jays' offense. The home run was Goldson's 19th on the season. The Jays pushed another run across off Ramirez in the 5th, thanks to an RBI single by Anthony Gose that drove in Brett Lawrie, who reached on an error by Mariners shortstop Brad Miller.

The 6th inning is where the Jays would really seal the deal, as they scored 3 runs (all unearned) off reliever Yoervis Medina. Ryan Goins and Edwin Encarnacion led off the inning with back-to-back singles, then Jose Bautista hit what should have been a double-play ball to third base, but Kyle Seager's throw to second pulled Robinson Cano off the base, leading to a bases-loaded situation with no outs. Medina got Goldson to hit a pop-up to get the first out, but John Scott drove in the first run of the inning with a sac fly and Kent Murphy would bring in the other two runners with a double in the right-center field gap. Encarnacion and Murphy would add two more runs to the Jays' total with solo shots in the 8th and 9th, their 17th and 13th dingers, respectively.

With the win, the Jays are now 11 games above .500 and maintain their 1.5 game lead over the 2nd-place Orioles in the AL East. They have their last series of the month coming up, as they travel to Detroit to face the first-place Tigers. This also means that the trade deadline is approaching quickly, and while there has been more action on the trading front this year than last year, the Jays have not made any moves so far.

Tigers Acquire Dioner Navarro
by Steve Adams, MLB Trade Rumors
Monday, July 28, 2015

Image

The Tigers have made their second trade in 5 days today, striking a deal with the Blue Jays to acquire catcher Dioner Navarro, 31.

In addition to Navarro, the Jays will also send over right-hander Thad Weber to Detroit. The Blue Jays will receive shortstop Eugenio Suarez and right-hander Desmond Lyon in the trade.

Navarro, signed by the Jays prior to the 2014 season, has struggled this season in his second year in Toronto, hitting only .237 in 169 at-bats with a .644 OPS. However, the switch-hitting catcher is batting .284 against left-handers, making him a viable platoon partner with current Tigers catcher Alex Avila, who is hitting .286 on the year with an .832 OPS, but is only hitting .125 against southpaws. The Tigers were in need of a backup catcher after trading Bryan Holaday to the Dodgers in exchange for outfielder Justin Ruggiano on the 24th, and Navarro, despite his somewhat high salary, fits the bill. Weber, 30, had an impressive 2014 season, posting a 2.89 ERA in just over 65 innings out of the bullpen, but had faded down the stretch that year. Weber failed to crack the active roster for this year, and had pitched to a 4.22 ERA in 32 innings for the Jays' Triple-A affiliate before being traded.

Suarez, 23, has been dismal at the Triple-A level in 2015, only hitting .229 with a .616 OPS. The shortstop has always been noted more for his fielding than his hitting, though. Suarez still has some upside and is fairly young. He will start his time in the Jays organization down in Double-A New Hampshire. Lyon, the Tigers' 4th round pick in 2014, is described by some scouts as having the best raw talent of any relief prospect, also seeing him being a great closer in the future. They do say that he is a long ways away, but that hasn't stopped the Blue Jays, as they have already called him up to Double-A. The 18-year-old from Chicago is described as having great life on his fastball and a wipeout slider.

At first glance, the trade seems like your average salary dump by the Blue Jays. However, if both of the players they received reach their full potential, Suarez could serve as a nice utilityman and Lyon could be the Blue Jays' closer of the future. The Jays have said they want to make at least one more trade before the deadline, which could be interesting now that they have freed up some room on their budget.

The trade comes right before both teams face each other in a 4-game series. It is doubtful that Navarro will play today, but the Jays will likely see Navarro playing in a Tigers uniform tomorrow since they have a lefty (Moses Adler) starting then.

Castellanos Homers as Smyly K's 10
by Gregor Chisholm, MLB.com
Tuesday, July 29, 2015

Image
DETROIT - Drew Smyly talks to the press after his strong start.

The Tigers take Game 2 of the 4-game set, winning tonight's game 4-3.

In a battle of young lefties, it was Tigers southpaw Drew Smyly that was a cut above his counterpart, Moses Adler. Smyly went 7 innings compared to Adler's 5, both did give up 3 runs (all earned), but Adler walked 4 batters compared to Smyly's 1, and Smyly struck out twice the amount of batters Adler did (10 vs. Adler's 5). Thus, Smyly got the victory to even up his record at 7-7.

Most of the offense for the Tigers tonight was supplied by third baseman Nick Castellanos. He put the first run on the board in the 2nd inning with a solo home run to left field, his 12th on the year. He also brought in a run in the 5th inning on an RBI single. The most important hit, however, was not by Castellanos, but by designated hitter Victor Martinez, who drove in the deciding run in the bottom of the 7th via an RBI single off reliever Dustin McGowan.

All 3 of the Jays' runs came via the big fly. Hayden Goldson hit his 20th homer on the season in the 5th inning to give the Jays their first run, and Brandon Hicks hit what was at the time a game-tying 2-run blast, his 3rd on the year. Catcher Yenier Bello, making his major league debut, scored on that home run after picking up his first career hit, a double to center field.

The main story of the game was that catcher Dioner Navarro got his first start in a Tigers uniform tonight, going 1-3 with an RBI single in the 3rd inning and a walk against his former club, the Blue Jays. Navarro was asked what it felt like playing against his former club.

"This isn't the first time I've had to face a team I've played for, so my experience in situations like this helped relieve some of the pressure that might have been caused by, say, trying to impress former teammates of yours. It's funny that I immediately had to play against my recent team though, I don't think that's ever happened to me before. It honestly kinda sucked, usually when you deal with this type of thing you get to catch up with guys you haven't seen in a while, but it's only been a day! (chuckles) There's nothing to catch up on!"

The Orioles won today, so now the Jays are now only a half-game behind their fellow bird-themed team. Also, the Yankees might just have had the worst month in franchise history. They have gone 4-20 blaze it fgt this month with only 2 games left to play. That is in stark contrast to their rival Rays, who have gone 17-7 in July

Blue Jays Acquire Troy Tulowitzki in 9-Player Deal
by Steve Adams, MLB Trade Rumors
Thursday, July 31, 2015

Image

The Blue Jays and Rockies have pulled off one of the biggest trades in MLB history, finalizing a 9-player deal that will see shortstop Troy Tulowitzki head up north to the Toronto and fellow shortstop Jose Reyes and first baseman Edwin Encarnacion head to Colorado.

The full package of players that both teams will recieve go as such: shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, right-hander Tyler Chatwood, catcher/first baseman Matt McBride, and center fielder Brandon Barnes have been acquired by the Blue Jays, while first baseman Edwin Encarnacion, shortstop Jose Reyes, right-handers R.A. Dickey and Stephen Brooks, and center fielder Eury Perez have been acquired by the Rockies.

Where to start? Let's go with the package the Rockies received. Encarnacion, 32, was a fan favorite in Toronto alongside his fellow slugger Jose Bautista. He had a very good, albeit injury-shortened, 2014, hitting .290, with 26 longballs, 68 runs batted in, and a .908 OPS. However, he has hit a bit of a decline in 2015, as while he has stayed healthy so far and slugged 19 homers, his rate stats have dropped off significantly. His triple slash line stands at .254/.339/.489, which still gives him an above-average .828 OPS, but that is nowhere near what is expected of him, especially considering his salary. The Rockies were still more than happy to take him considering their current first baseman, rookie Kyle Parker, is only hitting .214 with a .638 OPS on the year. Encarnacion also gives the Rockies a solid plan in place, as if he leaves once his contract is up, their 2014 first-round pick Chris Garcia will more than likely be ready to take his place by then.

The 31 year-old Reyes, acquired by the Blue Jays pre-2013 in a different monster deal with the Marlins, also has fallen off a bit in the batting average department (hitting only .265 this year as opposed to .285 in 2014), but his home run and stolen base numbers have taken an unexpected rise. Reyes already has 10 big flies this year, 1 away from matching 2014's total. He has also shown better discipline this year, drawing 41 walks to give him a .355 OBP. He is also only 5 steals away from matching last year's total of 30. Reyes has been slumping lately (.167 in his last 10 games), but Coors should be the right place for him to get his average back on track.

Dickey, 40, was also acquired by the Blue Jays in 2013, in what most regard as former GM Alex Anthopoulos' worst move during his tenure. Highly regarded prospects Travis d'Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard were sent to the Mets in exchange for the knuckleballer, who started the Jays' game earlier today and picked up a win. Dickey's stats after today currently are a 7-10 record with a 4.50 ERA, and 108 strikeouts in 122 innings, which is actually quite impressive for a 40 year-old knuckleballer. Dickey is looking to put his miserable 2014 season, in which he had a 5.05 ERA, behind him, and he has been valuable so far. It will be interesting to see how Dickey does at Coors Field. The right-hander has stated that he would like to play one more year in the Majors before retiring, whether his time in Colorado will change that opinion is yet to be determined.

Perez, acquired by the Jays from the Nationals last year in exchange for reliever Jeremy Jeffress, has bounced around between the big leagues and Triple-A during his year in Toronto. He had a good start to his 2014 season upon being promoted after the trade, but quickly cooled off during the Jays' poor September. He finished with a .259 batting average and a .635 OPS in 2014 to go along with 16 steals, and failed to make the Opening Day roster for 2015. He was promoted to the big club on June 11 but failed to impress, hitting only .195 in 113 at-bats. Brooks, one of the IFAs signed by new GM Derek Dorian before the 2014 season, was one of the brighter spots out of the Jays' bullpen in that year, recording a 3.00 ERA in 51 innings, but took a complete nosedive in 2015, pitching to a 7.88 ERA in 16 innings before being demoted at the beginning of July. The Rockies are hoping that the sinkerballer from New Zealand can regain his 2014 form, because his pitching style is suited very well for Coors Field.

Tulowitzki, drafted by the Rockies out of Long Beach State in 2005, was considered one of the faces of the Rockies franchise along with outfielder Carlos Gonzalez before the trade. The 30 year-old shortstop has proven to be one of the best all-around talents in the game when healthy; however, health has been a major concern for him, and this year has been no different in that regard. He was just recently activated from the 15-day DL on the 6th of this month after suffering a hand injury. As a result, he has only played in 42 games so far this year, but has produced in that time, hitting .283/.352/.509 in 159 at-bats, hitting 9 home runs and driving in 19 along the way. Tulo's 2014 was evidence of what he can do while healthy, as he hit .330/.417/.610 with 35 homers and 95 runs batted in en route to winning the NL MVP, Hank Aaron, and Silver Slugger awards. He also gives the Blue Jays elite defense at the shortstop position. Tulo and Brett Lawrie should make for one of, if not THE best left sides of the infield in the Majors.

Chatwood, acquired by the Rockies from the Angels in 2011, has proven to be one of the better young arms in the game today. He is currently building off a strong 2014 season in which he posted a 14-4 record with a 3.79 ERA and 168 K's. This year, Chatwood hasn't been as lucky in the win-loss department (that could easily change with the move to a first-place team), but every other stat looks very solid. Currently, he has a 3.52 ERA with 106 strikeouts in 125.1 innings. Chatwood will replace Dickey's spot in the starting rotation, which by all metrics should be an upgrade for Toronto in that regard.

Barnes, 28, has appeared in 50 games for the Rockies this year but has inexplicably recorded only 74 at-bats. During that time, Barnes has hit .270 with a .721 OPS, but has hit .302 against left-handers. The fact that Barnes hits lefties so well is a welcoming sign to a team that has struggled mightily against southpaws. Perez was originally acquired last year to try and help lessen the problem but was not up to the task. Barnes will take the place filled by Perez as the reserve outfielder/platoon partner with Anthony Gose. McBride, 29, has not appeared in the Majors since 2012, but does have an .837 OPS in 296 Triple-A at-bats, including a .408 OBP. With the Jays' issues at catcher, if recently-promoted Yenier Bello struggles, McBride could finally get another opportunity at the big league level.

Tulowitzki, Chatwood, and Barnes will be the replacements for Reyes, Dickey, and Perez, respectively, so the only player the Blue Jays needed to replace internally was Encarnacion. The Blue Jays have called up Brandon Laird from Buffalo to take the spot vacated by Encarnacion. Laird was signed by the Jays during Spring Training and has hit very well for their Triple-A club, producing a .291 batting average and an .802 OPS to go along with 13 homers. Top prospect Pete Grossman, 19, has been called back up to Buffalo (where he started the 2015 season at) to take Laird's spot.

How did that group get you Tulo and then some? I know The Show trade logic doesn't value prospects that highly, but this is insane.
