Yep. Freddy Guzman had a better Spring and took his role as 5th outfielder.

Glad to see Carter made it on to the Top 100 Prospects List.

He's excited to show off his skill for the Giants this season.

Hahaha well the real reason for his demotion is his overall rating, not his stats.

Kennedy Tosses Opening Night Gem, Rockies Kick Off 2006 Right
April 3rd, 2006
By Zachary Bluth

The Colorado Rockies finished 2005 at a mediocre 77-85. Every member of the starting lineup was acquired by the club no later than July 13th of last year (catcher Doug Mirabelli), and just three new pitchers were added to the roster during the offseason. Yet, despite these familiar faces, general manager Michael Cathaway and manager Clint Hurdle have both expressed optimism about the 2006 season.

"When you've got a team as young as this one, every year that goes by only increases your chances," said Hurdle of the squad. "I'd be shocked if we failed to compete for the pennant."

He's not kidding; just two players (Todd Helton and Doug Mirabelli) on the 25-man roster are over age 30.

In a rare press conference, Michael Cathaway echoed these sentiments:

"I'm excited to see the pieces we've got fall into place. Rockies fans should be ready for a winning season here in Colorado."

Opening night in Atlanta certainly got off to a decent enough start. The offense was lackluster, as their only run was unearned, but the defense was solid and Kennedy turned in a masterful performance. We know the bats of Todd Helton, Matt Holliday, and Joey Acaccia will get going soon enough. Once they do, this Rockies lineup has the potential to be scary.

Rockies Overcome Thompson's Stellar Outing
April 17th, 2006
By Zachary Bluth

In yet another low scoring affair, the Rockies prevailed over the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 2 to 0. On the mound for Arizona was 24-year old Cooper Thompson, who spent most of a rocky 2005 in the bullpen and has only made two career starts. Making the start for Colorado was Jason Jennings, the team's best starter from 2005.

In what seemed like a mismatch actually turned out to be a pitcher's duel for the ages. The first three innings of play yielded just four base runners between the two clubs, and it wasn't until the 7th that the Rockies finally got to a tiring Thompson, who yielded a walk and sacrifice bunt to start the 7th. After getting Aaron Miles to ground out, Dustan Mohr singled home Domingo Acosta to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead. Cooper was then pulled from the game, finishing with a line of 6.2 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 7 K, and just the one earned run.

The Rockies scored again in the 8th off reliever Greg Aquino, and that was more than enough for Jason Jennings, who went 8.0 innings and only allowed three hits. The Rockies will take a 9-5 record into Arizona again tomorrow for game two of the series.
