Mavs introduce new GM Dallas has formally introduced Simon Young, 24, as its new general manager. Young was a walk-on guard at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, appearing in 27 games and scoring 6 points with 3 assists and one rebound over his career. At “UMass”, Young studied at the Isenberg School of Management, earning a degree in Sport Management. He also minored in Education, and since graduating has worked as an elementary-school basketball coach and teacher, and has also had summer internships with the Boston Celtics. Young stated that he intends to sell out at least five home games this season and keep player morale “at least 50 percent, or a state of general content”. He also proclaimed that the team “might just win a championship!” Young then went on his personal Twitter account, @SYoung7, and tweeted out the following: “This mavs team is gonna be a ‘no flex zone’…we don’t want no individual stars…has been and always will be a TEAM GAME…anyone who don’t buy in won’t be playing…now let’s get this DUB!” Longtime veteran forward Dirk Nowitzki joked, “I don’t know what a ‘no flex zone’ is, but I definitely buy in to this team philosophy. Looking forward to meeting Mr. Young in person.” Young tweeted back, “Please call me Simon, or should i say $imon!!! HA!” Nowitzki “retweeted” Young’s response. No other players commented on social media about the new GM or his comments. |

Tony Parker had 20 points, but San Antonio could not win in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night. Coming off of an NBA Championship, the Spurs (0-1) were the victims of a night which saw the visiting Mavericks (1-0) shoot 76 percent from the floor, and drain 8 of 11 from long-range. Dallas was led by Chandler Parsons with 16 points, 3 boards and 5 assists, and Monta Ellis with 14, 2 and 5. All twelve active Mavs entered, with all but reserve forwards Greg Smith, Richard Jefferson and Jae Crowder scoring. After the game, rookie GM Simon Young was asked what he hoped to accomplish with the Mavericks, and he claimed that he had dreams of "[n]ot one, not two...That's right, twenty championships". ![]() Sorry about the incomplete stats. It won't happen again, probably, not really. Pay special attention to Kyle Anderson's position. |

October 30, 2014 Jazz 37 Mavericks 64 Ellis: 10 pts, 2 reb, 6 ast Chandler: 5 reb, 2 blk, only DAL player scoreless DAL: 87% FG November 1, 2014 Mavericks 58 Pelicans 39 November 3, 2014 Celtics 58 Mavericks 42 NOTE: Simmed until 3:08 4th qtr., score was 41-26 Boston at that point Bradley: 17 pts, 2 reb, 1 ast ROSTER MOVES PG Raymond Felton reinstated from 4-game suspension. PG Jameer Nelson removed from active roster. The explanation for all of this: I first thought I was going to just do one box score/full recap a week and then like this for the others, but I've scrapped that plan. I simmed most of the Boston game A) to see if the CPU knew what it was doing (no) and B) I had to come down for dinner. Jameer Nelson had a -1.5 PPR which is worse than the likes of Richard Jefferson and my other two PG (Harris and Barea) plus Felton was complaining about not getting minutes. |

November 6, 2014 In the first game of a back-to-back, the Mavs dropped one, 70-58, to Portland. LaMarcus Aldridge registered a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Damian Lillard had 19 points to go with 7 assists for the Trail Blazers (3-2). For Dallas (3-2), Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 points, but his only other contribution was a blocked shot. The Blazers were also 14-for-14 from the free throw line. ![]() |

November 7, 2014 Mavericks…21-25-15-12…73 Jazz…13-12-13-13…51 In the second game of a back-to-back set, the Mavericks improved to 4-2 on the young season with a 73-51 win over the Utah Jazz. It was a strong game all around for Dallas, who shot 28-36 (78%) from the field, including 12 three-pointers. Rick Carlisle let his “bench mob”, as new GM Simon Young has affectionately dubbed the group, play the entire fourth quarter, and they poured in 12 points of their own, playing against Utah’s starters some of the period and only allowing that group 13 points. Carlisle did take issue, however, with his team’s streaky shooting and also with its turnovers - Dallas has struggled to make shots in games against Portland and Boston, dropping both games. In addition, they committed seven turnovers tonight, including three by starting point guard Devin Harris and three more between backups J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton. Carlisle said he may consider dropping one of the three from the rotation, likely Barea, and activating Jameer Nelson, who was benched before the two-game road trip in favor of Felton, who was coming off of a four-game suspension based on gun charges. November 9, 2014 Heat...8-16-12-16...52 Mavericks...15-9-14-13...51 This game was closer than the final score indicates, if such a thing is possible. Dallas had four players in double figures, but they could not overcome Dwyane Wade and the team effort of the undefeated Heat. In the final second, Tyson Chandler missed a jump shot that would have put Dallas in the win column, but coach Rick Carlisle said their poor bench play was to blame for the loss. That bench combined for just 6 points and all five players who came in as subs had a negative +/- rating. After the game, Dallas announced that J.J. Barea had been dealt to Toronto along with the team's 2017 first-round pick for center Greg Stiemsma and the Raptors' 2015 1st-round selection. Jameer Nelson was activated in Barea's place, and Stiemsma will meet the team in Dallas for Tuesday's game. He will replace Greg Smith, who was dispatched to the Texas Legends of the NBADL. In addition, Tyson Chandler signed a contract extension. The new deal includes a $6.94M salary for 2015-16 and a team option for 2016-17 worth $7.25M. Dallas simply shot the ball better than Sacramento, allowing them to make up for a -3 deficit in rebounding and -4 turnover margin.
