Opening Night 2014 ![]() ![]() It was a beautiful night in Seattle for the opening match of the 2014 NFL campaign. The defending champions Seattle took on the Green Bay Packers. Seattle was a -3.5 favorite. Notable players: ![]() Aaron Rodgers is a great QB and can dominate any defense, but can he dominate the Legion of Boom? Richard Sherman will be challenged against Jordy Nelson, but he will most likely be able to shut him down. Clay Matthews will pose a threat to Seattle's running game. Will Lynch's Beast Mode be able to overcome his power? Marshawn Lynch hopes to be able to eat Skittles in the endzone a lot this year. Can he get some vs. Green Bay? Seattle won the coin toss and elected to receive. Seattle drove down, but were forced to settle for a 54 yard field goal by Hauschka making it 3- 0. Green Bay did little on their first possession, and were forced to punt. The Seahawks' second drive took them into the second quarter, however they played it safe and settled for an 18 yard field goal, making it 6-0. Green Bay drove down and kicked a field goal, making it 6-3 at halftime. Green Bay started the second half with a 3 and out, and punted to Seattle. However, Russell Wilson threw a boneheaded interception, giving Green Bay the ball. Green Bay couldn't capitalize and punted again. Seattle finally capitalized in the fourth, as Wilson threw a touchdown pass to Miller, making it 13-3. On the following kickoff, Randall Cobb fumbled, and Seattle returned it, making it 20-3. Rodgers threw a touchdown pass with a minute left, decreasing the Packers' deficit to 10. Earl Thomas III capped off the game with an interception, and Seattle won 20-3. ![]() ![]() It was an NFC South rivalry renewed in New Orleans. Both teams hate each other and are ready to renew the rivalry. Notable players: Brees is a New Orleans hero, and is ready to prove that the Saints are back this year. He is great, especially versus Atlanta. Julio Jones is a dominant WR, and can make Matt Ryan's job simple. New Orleans won the coin toss and elected to defer. Matt Ryan struggled, and the Falcons turned the ball over on downs on the first drive. Pierre Thomas ran for a touchdown, making it 7-0 Saints. The Falcons drove down to start the second, and Jackson rushed for a 1 yard touchdown, tying the game at 7-7. Drew Brees followed suit with an interception. Steven Jackson rushed for another 1 yard touchdown, giving Atlanta a 14-7 lead. New Orleans moved the ball, but were held to a field goal, bringing the score to 14-10. Matt Ryan threw a pick to end the half. The Saints started the second half with a field goal, cutting their deficit to 1. The Falcons turned it over on downs, giving New Orleans a chance to capitalize. The Saints definitely capitalized as Lorig ran for a 1 yard touchdown, making it 19-14. The two-point conversion was no good. Atlanta had a great chance, but Ryan threw another interception. The Falcons held New Orleans, and were givien one last chance with 25 seconds left. ![]() ![]() Both teams were ready to renew their rivalry. Notable players: Johnny Manziel was given the start, much to the enjoyment of Cleveland fans. Will his debut be one to remember? Ben Roethlisberger is ready to lead his team to glory again in 2014. Josh Gordon was seen getting high on Friday, but he will be ready to play on Sunday. Cleveland won the coin toss and elected to receive. The Browns started horribly, going three and out. The Steelers did nothing also. Manziel couldn't do anything also, and they went three and out again. The Steelers drove down, and settled for a 24 yard field goal by Suisham. Johnny Manziel ran for a touchdown, making it 7-3. The Steelers followed with a field goal, making it 7-6 at the half. The Steelers punted on their first drive. Manziel looked just like he did at A&M, and the drive resulted in a Ben Tate touchdown run. The Browns took a 14-6 lead. Joe Haden intercepted a pass from Roethlisberger, a big play in the game. However, Troy Polamalu made a huge pick, giving them a huge chance. The Steelers did nothing, and took the risk of punting. Their plan backfired, as Ben Tate rushes for another touchdown, pushing their lead to 21-6. Roethlisberger threw a pick, and since this is a rivalry, the Browns tried to add to the blowout, but Polamalu picked it off again. Roethlisberger threw ANOTHER pick, and the game was over. Notable players: In his second full season, Foles is ready to prove his worth in the NFL. Blake Bortles is trying to make himself known more than his hot girlfriend.
