2008 Preseason

Coach Brad Childress is confident about his team's D this year: "Our defense is amazing. I'd like to see anybody try to score against it."

The Minneapolis Edition of EA Sports News' take: "Most publications are picking the Vikings as obvious favorites this season. Their defense is overwhelming and Coach Childress has assembled a team that can dominate anybody they line up against. I'm not sure about their chemistry, though. It takes more than talent to win a Super Bowl."

Jacksonville Municipal Stadium

The Jags kicked off the preseason with the only score of the first quarter - a Mike Vanderjagt 44-yard field goal. With 2:03 left in the half, stud kicker Sebastian Janikowski answered back with a 46-yarder. It finished a 10-play, 80-yard drive for Minnesota. The third quarter was quiet and the last score was a Nate Burleson 1-yard pass from Josh McCown for a touchdown. Jacksonville broke the tie with just 57 seconds left after a 14-play, 77-yard drive down the field.

Eagles kicker Olindo Mare jumped Philly to a 6-0 lead in the first with 45 and 51-yard field goals coming about 2 minutes in between. The Polish Cannon brought the Vikes back to a 3-point deficit with a 53-yard shot through the goalpost a few minutes later. Pro Bowl QB Vince Young was then tackled in the endzone by Minnesota rookie LB Trent Christman for a safety. With the score 6-5, Maurice Jones-Drew ran back a punt 66 yards for an Eagles score. MJD came right back 7 minutes later with a nine-yard scamper to put the Birds up by 15. The Vikings headed into the 4th looking to make a comeback and an Aaron Rodgers 12-yard throw to Adrian Peterson for a touchdown inched them closer. A 2-point conversion was matched by a 48-yarder from Eagles rookie kicker Gilbert Justice. Down 23-13, the Vikings' last-ditch effort was a Marques Colston catch hauled in for a 9-yard score. It was too little too late as Aaron Rodgers' second TD toss came with just :11 left in the game.

Raymond James Stadium

Tampa Bay took the lead early in this battle of 0-2 teams as Brian Griese hurled a 29-yard TD to rookie WR Hank Gibson. It was up to star placekicker Sebastian Janikowski to get Minny on the board as he nailed a 42-yard FG in the 2nd quarter. Star wideout Terrell Owens caught a 5-yard pass for the 2nd Bucs' touchdown but Ben Rothelisberger fired back on a short 1-yard score to Greg Jennings. A mini Frank Gore 7-point trot (1 yd) and a Josh Scobie field goal (24 yds) capped a 17-point 2nd quarter for the hometown Buccaneers. The third resulted in just a short successful field goal for Janikowski and the fourth saw only a Marcus Bell fumble recovery for TB's 4th touchdown on the day.
