Kawasaki has announced with the NPB that two new teams have entered the league! One will be held in our very own city of Kawasaki! The team names are the Kawasaki Sunstars and the Okayama Turtles. Neither Managers have been announced and a draft from a pool of players will be held soon.

Why do people wake up so early to call me like this.... I didn't have to get up for another hour or two...

"Hello?"
"Hey babe."
"Amanda... didn't I tell you not to call before ten?"
"I know but I have something to tell you!"
"Something that must be told before ten?" This better be good..
"No need for your sarcasm," She knows me pretty well
"Well Nick, my company is moving us to the Japan department"
"What about my job? I still have my managing job with the Pirates for 3 more years?"
"My company purchased one of the expansion teams from the NPB, and they purchased your contract... so you will be the new manager." So Japan?
"Which one of the teams? They better have the potential that Pittsburgh had."
"Kawasaki Sunstars." That's the worst team in the league

I woke up like any normal day, I mean our plane is later and the day so there was no need to rush right? Just waking up to catch a flight to Japan then meet some Japanese guy who expects me to speak the language and coach a team? Just great...

I got off my flight around 10:30 in the morning in Japan time. I must say, the city is very nice. I looked at my wife and daughter, gave them both a quick goodbye and looked for a bite to eat. I walked into a small bar that had the english name, "The Stowaway." I sat down next to this tall and lean fellow, big arms though. He was wearing a Sunstars jacket. He must be a big fan.

"How is the team looking for next year?"
"You must be new here, I don't like talking to fans! Plus I only have a few hours before I have to meet this new manager!" Well damn.
"So you are a player? Pitcher I assume?"
"Yeah, you're new here. I am Newton Trent, the teams ace."
"Uhhh... Nick Kane, the new manager."
"No way.. I am so sorry coach."

Me and Trent made our way through a drink and headed off to the team headquarters, only a block away from the stadium, York Stadium. I was just sitting in the office when another player with a big rough beard walked in, I mean this guy is hugeeee.

"You must be Coach Kane? Names Wily Mo Pena"
"I have hear of you, 38 homeruns last year, led the league? Nice to know you'll be wearing our jersey."

Next person to walk in cut our conversation short. Very tight black suit with very neatly trimmed beard.

"The name's Mr. Ziff. I do nothing but win so let's make this quick. Your contract was purchased but we go by guidelines in the NPB. My guidelines. You have to meet my expectations within the next 5 years or you are fired."

Must Complete 3 of 5.
[ ] Have a playoff appearance
[ ] Win the NPB Championship
[ ] Have a player with 15 wins
[ ] Have a player save 40 games
[ ] Have a player with at least 40 homeruns

I gracefully signed my name at the bottom even though I really had no choice.

"Great, now here is the schedule and the roster, good luck with these. I'll stop by every once and a while to say hello. This is a winning organization!"

Mr. Z just walked out of the office without saying another word, but I heard him yelling at a cleaning lady in Japanese.

Now that the Sunstars have announced the new manager, can he bring
them to a championship? Kane was 92-70 last season and made
the playoffs with the Pittsburgh Pirates who were in the same
position as us just a few years before when Kane was hired.
But is he able to take the 32-103 Sunstars to the playoffs?
Most of the city doesn't believe in him but with how they have
been coached lately they are definitely willing to give him a shot.

So the city is doubting me? I threw the newspaper in the trash and finished my business on the can. I just walked to the dresser got ready for the day.
I mean it's first day of practice. From what I know after meeting the guys that only a few guys have potential. Brungo could be a good catcher one day, but for now he'll be nothing but a backup for Luke. Sampson is a good fielder but the only person he could challenge is Perry at third. So many decisions to make.
