I was the manager of my son's little league team. I was at the last game of his fall ball career. For some reason he didn't want to play next year. It was like he was keeping something from me. My son was up to bat in the bottom of the 6th, when my phone rang. I answered it.
"Hi can you call back later, thanks".
I didn't know who it was, but I did not want to miss my son play in his last game. He struck out, but he was already 3-3 and they were winning, so I didn't yell at him like I usually do. The game was over, so I picked up my phone and called the same number that called me earlier.
"Dave speaking," I said.
"Hi this is Ralph Carr, the new GM of an expansion team called the Hampton Devils. I was wondering if you wanted to be the manager of this new team."
"The MLB is putting in an expansion team? Why was it not in the USA Today? I did not see it."
"It was not in the USA today because the commissioner of the MLB did not want another team. We are moving to Japan and joining the NPB. Would your family like to come to Japan? If so call me back on my cell. My number is 233-000-0000. Hope you can join us."
"Okay, bu...He hung up."
I was thinking this through in my head. What will my family say...
