-knockknock-
"Come in."
The door opened and Preston poked his head through.
"Hey, uh, Jack, he's here." he said
"Oh. Good. Bring him in."
'Him' of course referring to the American pitcher I had Preston bring over, Anthony Creek.
He and his soulpatch walked into my office and took a seat across from me.
He reached out to shake my hand.
"Hi, how you doing, I'm Antho-"
"Yeah, yeah, I know."
...
We sat in silence for a little while as I was preoccupied with fiddling around with my computer.
"uh... so..." he started
"Oh, right. Welcome to the team, kid."
"Thanks, sir."
"Jack."
"Er, thanks, uh, Jack."

He got up and left.
I was back in solitude.
Good.

I'm awake.
And I've been like this for the past week.
This is all very reminiscent to when I broke my wrist. The sleepless nights, the never ending stream of consciousness. The dour mood.
I hated it, I hated it all.
"*(censored)*, our first game's in a week." I thought "I've got to look all happy and give a stupid interview afterwards. How the hell am I supposed to do that? Maybe I should just not show up."
I sat on this thought for a little while.
"Yeah, the GM can't just *(censored)* call in sick." I fussed into my pillow
...
"Well, it is the afternoon over there... Maybe she'll pick up this time."

I flicked on my light and grabbed my phone from my nightstand where it lay dormant for the past few days.
Seeing the reflection of my unshaven, tired face was unfortunate to say the least.
God, I'm pathetic.
I dialed the number. Well, more like I found it in my contact list.

-ring-
"..."
-ring-
"..."
-ring-
I was beginning to get nervous and sweaty. Jesus.
-ring-
"..."
-ring-
"Oh, *(censored)*, this is useless."
-rin--
"What." A stern, angry sounding Sara picked up
"S-Sara?" I was stupefied
oh no, now that she's picked up this is going to be super expensive... No, Jack. Shut up, don't think about that you idiot.
"What is it Jack?"
"Uh..." I entered panic mode again, and came to the horrifying realization that I actually had no idea what to say to her.
I was unable to say anything.
"Are you kidding me, Jack. Why are you calling me so much?"
"I-I just wanted to apologize, Sara."
"I think it's a little late for that."
"P-please, Sara, you don't know what this has put me through."
Oh, Jesus, that was pathetic.
"What it's put you through?! You abandoned me, Jack. You dated me for two months and then cast me aside for some job in Japan that just 'never came up'. Did you ever, oh I don't know, think to *(censored)* mention that you live halfway across the world?"
"Could you stop playing the victim for two seconds. This hasn't exactly been easy on me either. I can't eat. I can't sleep. I can't do my goddamn job."
"You do realize that this is entirely your fault, right?"
"Of course I know that! I regret it every day."
"What?"
"...Nothing. Christ, I made a mistake, okay? A really *(censored)* big one. I-I don't know what to do."
Sara let out a sigh.
"What're we doing?"
"Heheh, I have no idea."

We chatted for a few more minutes, nothing really of interest, but it ended with Sara saying "Well, I'll talk to you later, Jack. Bye now."
Now, I have no idea if that was just automatic or if she really meant it.
But what I do know is that I now have my new thought to ponder on for the rest of this sleepless night.

"Oh no. Ohhh no."
I was throwing papers and documents all about my office.
Mori walked in.
"Uh... Jack?"
"One second, man. Hold on."
I cannot lose that phone. Especially not now.
"Er, Jack."
"One second, Mori." I said with some attitude behind it
"Are you looking for your phone?"
I banged my head on the bottom of the desk.
I rubbed my head, "gah, crap, it's gonna lump. Yeah, I'm looking for my phone, how'd you know?"
"It's on the couch."
I looked over to the couch and lo and behold, it was sitting there. In the open. On the middle cushion.
"Oh."
"Yeah, 'oh.' So, uh, Jack, I've got the lineups, want to look them over real quick?"
"Right, right, sure."

Mori handed me his opening day lineup written in pencil.
"Gosh, Mori, your handwriting is beautiful."
"Thank you."

He pulled another piece of paper out of his back pocket

"Jeez, Mori. I love your handwriting."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
...

Maeda – Meh, Oda – Oh Goodness

Blue Stadium, Sakyō-ku, Kyoto – Welcome back to baseball, Knights faithful! This was Maeda’s first start as a Knight, and boy did he do mediocre, going 5 2/3 innings and letting up 6 runs. “I didn’t perform as expected. I will do better in the future.” He said. The Knights would still end up on the winning side of the bill, though as Oda hit a walkoff double to left-center! “Aw, dude, it was great.” He commented after the game.

Ushida made a crucial error in the top of the 8th, letting the ball get by and it resulted in a triple. BUT, he would redeem himself immediately after, hitting a game tying 2-run homerun in the bottom half of the 8th.

Also, this was the debut of the young stud Xiao Zenigata, who went 3-5 with a double in his debut, no bad at all. “It was scary, sure, but it’s just baseball at the end of the day.” He said in a press conference after the game.

The Knights are back!

Yes! The Knights are back!

Kurihara is obviously still tearing it up. And I recognize a lot of players from the Hawks. Like Wada, Kawasaki, and Honda.

Kura Walks Off!

Image
Image – Taiga Kura

Blue Stadium, Sakyō-ku, Kyoto – In a 12 inning epic, the Knights end up victorious off of the bat of Kura. His single in the 12th, with two outs, mind you, would win it for the Knights giving them their tenth win of the season.

Now this game wasn’t without its due drama. The very first batter of the game, the Fighters’ Itoi leadoff with a homerun to right, giving them a quick lead. Also in the same inning, Masato made a fantastic diving catch and tagged out the stranded Kiyota to end the inning, and to top it all off, it was against his brother, Sora, who really wore the collar going 0-6 while grounding into a double play and striking out twice.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Kurihara hit himself a 153 meter (502 feet) homerun for his third of the day and tenth of the young season. Seems he hasn’t missed a beat.

The Knights lost their lead in the 8th inning, as Kikuchi, who was brought in to get the left-handed hitting Nakamura out, ended up giving up a game-tying 3-run homerun. It would go all the way to the last possible out until the Knights would finally plate the winning run.

Yikes, What Happened?

Image
Image – Okada and Figaro

Blue Stadium, Sakyō-ku, Kyoto – The Knights really took a beating, and to the worst team in the league, to boot. Alfredo Figaro threw a complete gem, going all the way and letting up only two runs. Pretty solid for someone who started the game with an ERA in the high 7's. It was a weak start for the struggling Fujita, who went 6 innings and let up 5 runs. “Sorry about that” was all he had to say after the game.

The Knights were in trouble early, as Okada (who hit 3 homeruns and drove in 5) and Leon (who had 2 homeruns himself) went back-to-back in the 3rd inning, plating 3 runs. And to compound the pain, in the bottom half of the inning, the Knights were looking to shrink the lead with runners on first and second. Kura then hit a sharp liner to second, and boom boom, a triple play. Inning over, mood dampened.

Also, rookie Keisuke Yoshimi got his first hit, a single to left, so congrats to him!

heh, no, unfortunately. I just use the game's auto stats as their "second string" stats.
