I pulled up in front of my house with a small crunch, as the snow moved under the tires of my humble rental.
I grabbed the presents I had in the backseat, and closed the door with my foot. I was finally home.

-knockknock-
The door to my Newton home slowly opened, and I was greeted by the smiling face of my mother.
"Oh, Jacky, you're finally here!" she said to me while moving in for a hug.
"Hey, ma. Been a while, huh?"
"Too long. You should visit more!"
"Those flights are killer, I don't want to go through those any more than necessary."
"Even if it's to see your loving mother?"
"Er..."
"Well, come on in, Jacky. Dad's certainly going to be happy to see you."

I walked over the threshold and was greeted with the overwhelming smell of Christmas tree and potatoes. Gotta love mom's potatoes.
As I sat down and talked with my father for the first time in months, I felt the sadness in me slowly flowing out. "Perhaps Japan isn't right for me?" I pondered.
My father, ever the detective, noticed my contemplative face and asked "what's troubling you, bud?"
Naturally, I didn't want to worry my father. "Uh, it's nothing" I, unconvincingly, said.
"Oh, please, don't insult me. I'm not that much of an idiot. Johnny, I know when something's on your mind."
- Oh, by the way, my dad calls me Johnny, since I'm actually John Michael Allen, Jr. heheh -
"Alright. I'll spill. I've just been, uh, I dunno, really lonely lately. I mean, I wouldn't say I'm, like, depressed or anything, but I certainly haven't been happy for a little while."
"Hunh. The loneliness doesn't surprise me. Japan's pretty far away. Listen, though, you never call us! Ma was telling me that a couple of days was the first time you'd talked to her in months! Seriously, Johnny, we're always going to be here for you. Don't hesitate to call."
"But, the time differen-"
He cut me off before I could finish, "Screw the time difference! I don't care when you call, and I'm sure your mother doesn't either."
"Heh, thanks, dad."
"Now, this isn't something we should be talking about on Christmas! Why don't you help me with setting up the presents?"
"...Sounds good."

My father and I set up presents for the first time in what seemed like ages.

13:10

My family started to stroll in. I was met with a chorus of "Hiiii"s and "How ya been"s along with the customary familial embrace.
Stephen walked in too, his wife in tow.
"Hey Jackie."
"Hey Steve," I waved to his wife, Jenny who was behind him.

It looked like everyone was finally over. The din of a group of people talking was music to my ears. I simply camped in front of the brie and went to town on that baby while listenign toeveryone else talk around me.

18:27

After our lunch/dinner hybrid, a "linner" if you will, was presents time.
"Johnny, why don't you go first?" my dad proposed
"Well, I'm certainly not opposed."
It was a present from my parents. I peered into the gift bag to see what it was.
It was a long, skinny box, probably a watch, and a card.
I opted to grab the card first.
"Go on, read it aloud." my dad insisted
"Uh, alright.

'We know that you're worried about the timezone difference between Japan and home, so we figured that we should pick you up a watch. Now, this isn't just any watch, no sir. This is your grandfather's watch. A gold-plated Waltham watch from back when he worked at the Watch Factory. We've got it set to the time here, so you'll never have to worry about whether or not it's too late to call.

- Love you,
mum and dad

Hahah, thanks you guys. I have been lacking in the watch department," I slid it on "looks perfect! But, uh, don't you have to wind-up a Waltham watch?"
"Er, well, yes. Hunh, guess we didn't really think this through." my father said to my mother
"Uh... Oops." was all my mother had to say

And for some reason, I just burst out laughing. This was it, I'd finally gone crazy, I thought to myself.
An unfunny remark, and the dumbfounded face that my mother was wearing was the funniest thing I had ever seen. And I had no clue why.
Next thing I knew my father was laughing too, and soon Stephen joined the fray.
Once I calmed down, Stephen was next to open up his gift
"Oh... Awesome, a sweater!"

The rest of the ceremony went without a hitch. And I was finally enjoying myself again.

22:48

"Well, I guess we should be going." My final remaining uncle said, and he and his family put on their coats and walked out the door.
Stephen, his wife and I were the last ones there.
"You three are free to stay the night if you'd like." My mother offered
"Nah, ma, it's cool. We booked a hotel." Stephen said "In fact, we're actually gonna get going now."
"Oh, well, drive safe, it's mighty icy out there."
"Don't worry, ma, I will."
I saw Stephen and Jenny off
"See ya tomorrow, Jack."
"Bye now."

I turned around to see my mother's sad face.
"Don't tell me you're not staying either."
"Heheh, sorry. I figured it would be a burden."
"Not at all!"
"Well, I guess I could stay, if you'll have me."
"Jeez, honey. Of course you can stay."
"Thanks, ma."

I was sitting in the kitchen enjoying my cereal and newspaper as my father walked in.
"Hey, Johnny, could you go grab some stuff from the grocery store?"
"Oi. Yeah, sure, dad. I'll head out in 10 minutes or so."
"Sounds good, thanks pal."
"Yep."

10:35

I was stuck at a traffic light, jamming out to the radio.
Just as it turned green and I started moving, I noticed out of my peripheral vision something moving.
As I turned my head, I saw a car sliding down the adjacent hill.
"Shit."

I love the storyline/writing here. I imagine my family at Christmas or Thanksgiving while reading through it.

Good stuff as usual, ppfan. :)

"Which is better, more Kyoto Knights updates or less?"

"More! We want more! We really like it, we want more!"

I think that's how the commercial goes.

??:??

"-ey!... ou.. -ght?! --it, ..e ... rrible. -ey! Hey!"
A large blur of blue and beige was positioned to the immediate right of my face.
My vision was tremendously blurry. What the hell just happened?
"He's awake, he's awake! How's the other one doing?"
"Not good. She doesn't look too good, man. Like, real bad."
"Christ. Alright, somebody give me a hand with this!"
Three pairs of hands were on me. I could feel them, but my body allowed for no reaction. I was too tired to react, anyways.
What was going on? Why were these people picking me up?

"Alright, careful now. Careful, careful, careful."
My head hit the ground as it would a pillow. The hands under it slipped out.
I was left staring at the sky. It was a deceptive one befitting a day much nicer than it was.
The sun was out, the clouds spread, but the temperature was well below freezing.
"Hey, man! Help me out with her. ...Please!"
"I'll be right there!" the blur, which now took the shape of a man in his mid-forties, turned to me "I'll be right back, okay?"
I nodded. Or at least I thought I did, I'm not sure.

Again stuck staring at the sky, I here a siren whaling in the distance.
"I wonder what that's for?" I think to myself
"Wait a minute. Why am I lying down?" At this point, I started to realize that something was wrong.
I was laid on the ground, staring at the sky, after three people whom I have never come into contact with put me here.
"Something's not right here." I thought
I slowly turned my neck to my right and was met with a sharp pain and a terrible sight.
An SUV had smashed into a telephone pole. A woman who looked to be my age, adorned in a pink coat and sweatpants was being dragged out of it. Even through my muddled vision, I could make out the blood on her head.
A man in an orange coat took care to put her down gently and then took a step back. "Oh, *(censored)*," I heard him say "she's dead."
The blue coat looked at Orange, and said nothing. He put his gloved hand over his mouth and looked in my direction.
He ran over.
"You hanging in there, man?" Blue asked me
Again, I nodded. Or, more like brought my chin closer to my neck.
"Awesome. Help's on the way, man. Just hang in there." He cracked a smile.
The next thing I knew I was in an ambulance.

??:??

Again I was laying down, but my beautiful sky was replaced by a plain, white ceiling and the occasional light.
"How you doing, uh, what was it?" A white coat said, I would assume him to be a doctor
"Allen, Jack Allen, McDonald." A woman's voice replied
"Ah, right, thank you. Jack, how you holding up?"
I let out some sort of grunt.
"Well, looks like you can still talk!"
Hardly.
My vision again was getting muffled, and the voices of the hovering heads began to sound distant. I guess the anesthesia was starting to s...

??:??

A bunch of things were said to me, but I have absolutely no recollection of what they were. I do remember seeing Steven and my parents' faces, though.

8:08 PM

I awoke to see a lovely, red faced digital clock about 10 feet away from my face.
"Seems it's 8." I said
"Oh, good, you're awake." A woman's voice that I had never heard echoed
I turned my head the other direction to see this absolutely astonishing woman stood next to me.
"Uh, guess I am."
She flashed me a warm smile.
Hunh.

Prediction:

The woman in the hospital room is the woman who died and through a series of hallucinations, Jack and her form a special bond. They soon fall in love.
