It's all coming together now!

Alright, so let me brief the game so far for you.
We're playing USC. Tough school, I know.
USC got a quick lead, scoring a run in the first, and then 2 more in the second. That wouldn't be all, as they added one more in the fifth, and then 4 more in the sixth...
Yeah. We're down 6-1 in the 6th.

Some kid named Ian Kennedy was pitching, and he was really rolling, having 7 strike outs already.

Well, in the sixth (I bat second, by the way) we scored a run on a throwing error, luckily, making the score 6-2. We had another chance when our leadoff guy, my buddy Brandon Crawford, got walked, and then I followed up with a walk of my own. But, our three hitter, Chris Jensen, lined out to center to end the inning.

"C'mon guys. We can do better than this. 6-2?!" I said going back into the dugout
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever, Jack. This game's as good as lost." Crawford replied.
"Nah, dude. We got this."

We took the field for the 7th.

Vieira of USC lead off with a single to left, but was thrown out at second by Murphy. A lefty, their first baseman, Lucas Duda then grounded out to first.

It was when Johnny Bowden, their catcher, came up to the plate when my life completely changed.

So is the next update the part where Jack Allen gets his leg screwed up?

On the first pitch, Johnny Bowden hit a sinking line drive to the right of me in center.
I knew that I had to make the play. So, naturally, I ran as fast as I could to get to the ball.
I came to the realization that I had to dive to catch it. So I had a split-second decision to make.

I chose to dive.

I made the dive, a diagonal one across my body.

"I caught it! Now just to land..." I thought to myself

The landing didn't go as smoothly as I wanted, though.

My glove spun around somehow, and I ended up with my left hand hitting the ground twisted, hard. It, in turn, stopped my forward momentum, causing all of my body weight to fall upon my wrist. Naturally, my wrist couldn't handle the situation, and right then, there was an audible "snap."

The rest of my body came down, with my arm still twisted, and I slid about 2 feet or so. I saw the ball was still in my glove, but when I tried to lift up my arm to show the umpire I realized that there was something seriously wrong. My bone... My ulna was visible... My arm was contorted, and my elbow looked to be in the wrong spot... I simply looked at my arm, and let out a horrid, gut-wrenching scream, and promptly passed out.

When I came to, I was in the ER. Well, more specifically, I was in a bed in the ER. I couldn't feel my arm.

I looked over to see both of my parents and Stephen in the room, all of them looking frantic. "Wh-why am I here?" I managed to get out
My mother heard me, and quickly came to my side "Don't worry, sweetie, everything will be alright."
"Ma, I'm 19 now... I'm too old for 'sweetie'..."
She managed to smile amidst her tears "Still got your wits about you, I see."

The doctor came in, then. I could barely manage to see his name card, but it read Dr. Lévay Laborc. Strange name.

"'ello, my name ees Dr. Laborc." he said, with a heavy accent
"Oh, uh, hello." my father replied
"Hyes, now, I vould like to request zat I can speak weeth Mr. Jaques in private, please."
My family complied and left the room
"Now, son, it seems that you've got yourself quite the injury." Dr. Laborc said, completely free of his past accent.
I couldn't say anything
"Yes, yes, my accent's gone. I used when talking to parents. For whatever reason, people find foreign doctors to be more trustworthy."
"...Is that true?" I asked
"Haha! I've no clue, my boy! Anyways, you had a nasty fracture."
"F-fracture?"
"Yes, sir! Take a look at your left arm for me, will ya?"
I looked at my arm, it was completely bandaged.
"What was that supposed to do...?"
"As you can see, Jack, you're entire arm is in bandages, obviously. Now, the reasoning behind that is becauseeee..... You had a horrendous compound fracture in your wrist, your radius and ulna bones snapped. And along with that, it seems that your elbow broke. Essentially, your arm exploded, Jack. It's one of the worst I've seen."
...Worst? ...Exploded? WHAT?!
"H... Hold on, doc, let me get this straight. I've got one the worst looking injuries you've ever seen?"
"Yes."
"W... Well then... What about baseball?"
He seemed puzzled as to why I chose that to be my first question.
"...I'm really sorry to say this Jack, but, with your arm like this... There's no way you'll be able to swing a bat." He responded
"B... But what about when it gets better?!"
"It won't get 'better' it'll get 'less worse'."
"Oh... I see..."

My dreams... They're all over.

I was thinking the same thing Phillies.

This would be a great time to reinforce that the best advice is to never give 100% effort. Never. Ever. Or you will end up a GM of a Japanese baseball team.

I am staying away from clicking that picture. I think I can gather from the text information what it would look like.

Sadly, I'm able to say that I've seen much, much worse pictures than that one.

I'm liking these flashbacks, it's good to know the man behind the machine.
