A Very Potent Offensive Day

Image
Image- Koyato Oda

Fukuoka Dome, Chūō-ku, Fukuoka – Truly a game to show off the offensive threat of both of these teams. The Knights won in what was an epic game last night in the Fukuoka Dome. Both of the starters, Shima and Yamada, let up 5 or more runs in fewer than 4 innings. First off, Kurihara was DH’ing because manager Mori said before the game that he felt a little sluggish, since he’s coming down with a cold, so, naturally, Kanazawa was playing first. He’s not too good with the fielding half of baseball. So, in the bottom of the 1st, the Hawks had two on, and Uchikawa hits a bullet down the line that gets by Kanazawa, and allows him to reach. The out would have ended the inning. The next batter, Cabrera, would then get a 2 RBI double. But, in the next frame, good ol’ Kurihara would take one back with a solo homerun on a 2-0 count to make the score 2-1.

In the top of the 3rd, Kanazawa would tie it up with an RBI single, and then Kurihara opened it up with another homerun. This time of the 3 run quality. Making the score 5-2! Shigeno then came up, later in the inning, and grounded into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. He would go to be the only one without a hit, going 0-5 in the game, unfortunately. In the bottom half of the inning, Tamura would get and RBI single to make the score 5-3, and then Ng came up to the plate with 2 on. He hit a rocket to left, and it cleared the wall to give the Hawks the lead once again 6-5.

Buuuuut, in the next frame, the Knights would tie it up again, as Egawa got an RBI single of his own! Kanazawa then gives them the lead after hitting a high chopper to third that would score Matsunaga. Giving the Knights the lead again 7-6!

In the bottom of the 6th, trouble would arise as an error by Oda caused two runs to score, to give the Hawks tie it up again, 8-8. Though, in the top of the 7th, Oda would make up for his mistake, getting the go-ahead RBI with a single, making the score the final one, 9-8! He was awarded MVP for the game because of this, “Dude. It’s great! I felt really terrible after I made that error. But I’m, like, glad that I could help with the victory!” He said.

Pitching coach Ryan Techer had a fantastic game coming in in relief of Shima, he’s having a great season so far with a 1.76 ERA, and he didn’t let up any earned runs in 5 innings in yesterday’s game, gaining the win, so congratulations to him!

Knights Win In A Blowout

Image – Shigeno and Fujita

Osaka Dome, Osaka – Not much to say about yesterday’s game, other than it being a complete blowout in the Knights favor. They would end up winning by a final score of 13-1, with Fujita throwing a complete game in the process. It would give him his 4th win of the season as well! The Buffaloes released a statement after the game, saying “This was embarrassing to say the least. We will look to fix any of the team’s shortcomings.”

Together, Kurihara and Shimozono accounted for 9 of the 13 runs. It was a real delight to see Shimozono perform so well, as he’s isn’t having the best start of the year. Though, he is coming out of his slump, which is nice!

Bench him anyways, it's time for my catcher to shine for the Knights. ;)

Knights Win A Thriller

Image
Image
Image – Yamato and Kaga

Kleenex Stadium Miyagi, Sendai – Phew, what a game last night. The Knights came out victorious in an epic game against the Eagles, winning 2-1. Yamato had a masterful game, throwing a complete game, letting up only 2 hits, in what should’ve been a shutout. In the 4th inning, Uchikawa hit one right down the line, and it took a big bounce, which went over the head of Egawa, and allowed their only run to score.

All of the Knights scoring came early in the game, in the 2nd inning, in fact. One coming off of co-MVP Kaga’s bloop single with the bases loaded, and Matsunaga’s RBI fielder’s choice as well. Kaga spoke after the game, as this was his first RBI of the season, “It was great. I feel that I got to show some of what I can do!”

Good for him!

I had to go and talk to Kensou about this, it was of utmost importance.
I got to his office, knocked on the door, and headed on in.
"Kensou." I said
"Yeah?" He replied
"We have to talk."
"About what?"
"Egawa."
"What about him?"
"We've got to trade him."
"..."
"You understand where I'm coming from, right?"
"Of course I do, Jack, it's just... I dunno. He was the first one we looked at."
"I know, but he really isn't performing well, and we need some pitching. Or, we could always look for another outfielder, or a catcher, and move Shimozono to the outfield."
"Yeah... You're right, are any teams interested in him?"
"Well, I haven't really looked into it, but I would prefer to get a starting pitcher for him, so a team with a pitcher who's looking good this season."
"A starter? We've got 5 though..."
"I could throw in Atori as well."
"Oh. Well..."
"I'll ask around, and get back to you, Kensou."
"Alright Jack."
"I'll be back to talk about this soon."
"Okay. Goodbye, Jack"
"Bye."

I walked out, and I knew that he wasn't very happy that I wanted to get rid of his players. But Egawa's only batting .204 this year, with 1 homerun.

So, dish, mac, PPJ, [tm] what should we do?

Trade Egawa for pitching, move Shimozono, and import my catcher so he can rake!

That's definitely an option, but I don't know if I want another Kurihara-esque player on the team, since that would make them TOO good.
