Hey what's up. Drew Nelson here, the new pitcher in town for the Florida Marlins. I was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft in 2005 out of Washington State, rising quickly through the system and earning my chance to make the roster as a 21-year-old. I'm a left-handed pitcher in the mood of Andy Pettitte according to many... We have a similar pitching style, although I rely on my breaking pitches a bit more, especially my changeup. At Spring Training I met a cool dude, Ethan Oakley. He's quite the character. During Spring Training, I have up 2 runs in 12 innings, with 13 strikeouts. A week later... I made the major league roster! Yeah! |

April: I made the majors as a mop-up man. Pretty disappointed I didn't crack the fifth spot in a weak rotation, but whatever. I made my major league debut in the second game of the season against the Mets. We were down 8-2 in the ninth, so I just had to go through an inning to show my stuff. Immediately I have up two hits to David Wright and Carlos Beltran, but I managed to get Carlos Delgado out on a flyball. After a terrible fielder's choice by Mike Jacobs loaded the bases, I got a hard grounder that turned into a double play, ending a scoreless night. After the game, the manager said that I would be pitching in 5 days! I would be getting my first MLB start! Season Stats: 0-0, 1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 K, 0.00 ERA |

First Start: I was extremely pumped and kinda nervous for my first start, but I managed to keep my focus and take the mound. Luckily, I was facing a Nationals team that is pretty terrible. Things started off really well, I got into a groove through the first four innings, and they couldn't hit my breaking pitches for the most part. We also got a 2-0 lead that boosted my confidence even more. However, the fifth inning wasn't so kind, as the Nationals started to hit liners off of me to all fields. First, a two-out double, then an RBI single, stolen base, and another RBI single to tie it at two. I struck out the last batter, but the manager told me my night was done and he'd pinch hit for me. I was disappointed, but understood. We ended up winning a 4-3 thriller in extras. Season Stats: 0-0, 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 4 K, 3.00 ERA |
