June 7, 2007- It was draft day once again, and the Cardinals were prepping to make their pick in a few hours. Management had agreed that they needed to build around Pujols, their star first baseman. But how would they do that? Some said they needed better pitching, others said they needed another power bat along with Pujols. In the end, nobody was really sure what type of player would be drafted. When their turn to pick came, with the 18th choice, they had it narrowed down to Nick Schmidt, the lefty pitcher from Arkansas, or Toby Jackson, the power hitting lefty right fielder from LSU. They argued back and forth, over who to pick. The ones for Schmidt said they needed pitching to make it into the playoffs. Others said they needed someone to protect Pujols in the order, so teams would be forced to pitch to him. In the end, Jackson's side won, and he was drafted to the Cardinals, and signed a $390,000 contract. Jackson spent the rest of the season in the minors, and quickly shot up to AAA, but was never given a shot at the big leagues. He is working to make it this season, and that is where our story begins...

March & April 2008
Toby had a great spring training with the Cardinals, hitting 5 homers in 4 games, and earning a spot in the majors. He was the starting right fielder for opening day, batting in the 8th spot in the order. He flew out to center in his first at bat, but then smacked a single to right center his second time up for his first big league hit. He played well, up to the 18th, when he was injured in a game and had to sit out for 5 days. When he came back though, he was bumped up to the 3rd spot in the order, and that is where he sits now. Toby has played well all month, and so has the team. The Cardinals are 21-8 on the year, 5 games ahead of the 16-13 2nd place Reds. Jackson's stats on the month are .333 batting average, with 9 homers, and 19 runs batted in. He might want to keep that RBI total down though, has he has to pay $2,000 for each one. Yikes.

During his free time, Jackson has been spotted hanging out with center fielder Oakley, playing chess with his agent Matthew, and recently took a girl named Emily out for a couple of dates. We will have to see if that is a budding romance. :inlove:

So, we'll see how May plays out for Toby Jackson. Stick around for the next update.
