The team will need to pick up their play, especially their offensive play in games I'm pitching. I hate when we lose 9-8 in a game someone else is pitching, and then go and lose 1-0 when I get the start.

I think this is how Jeff Samardzija feels

Except for when he pitched against the Brewers :P

End of 2018 stats: 2.61 ERA, 18-7 record, 308 strikeouts
MLB career stats to this point: 3.23 ERA, 2278 innings pitched, 169-96 record, 33 shutouts, 47 complete games, 2285 strikeouts, 582 walks, .232 average against, 848 runs allowed, 817 earned runs, 349 games started, 2044 hits allowed, 35412 pitches thrown, 204 quality starts
Chicago Cubs record: 90-72, Wild Card Winners

I went without a Pitcher of the Month Award for August, but that was to be expected with only 1 win in the month. My teammate Alex Rodriguez got a Player of the Month though, so... Good for him.

In September, I broke another Sauna Suit, I don't know how I manage these things. I must rest pretty intensely. I was doing all I could do keep in good shape and try to help the team win, it was very important at that point, with the playoff race heating up and us trailing behind. I improved my Chess skill while I was trying to stay well rested. Later, I broke my Sleep Capsule, and I don't even know what that is.

With about a week left in the MLB season, my wife approached me to inform me that she was pregnant again. Damn it Emma, I don't need these distractions, couldn't this have waited until after the regular season was over? I wasn't paying enough attention to remember when the due date was, sometime in the middle of next year, I think.

The season was scheduled to end with a 4 game series against the Pirates, with us being 4 games behind them, it would take a sweep to tie them. However, we were leading the NL Wild card, so we just needed a decent series to hold onto that. The result was a series split, which was good enough to clinch the Wild Card. It was scary for a while there, but the Cubs are headed back into the playoffs.

At the end of the season, I lead the MLB in ERA and strikeouts, but didn't have enough wins to take a Triple Crown, as the leader had 19.

I didn't win an award for September, and the closest thing the team got to one is Manny Ramirez winning the Player of the Month, but he's in the AL with the Rangers now.

I took the individual titles for ERA and Strikeouts in the NL this year, but as already mentioned, I missed out on the Win title. Our closer Dempster took the save title though, with 33 saves.

2018 Playoffs:

Round 1 Matchups:

Cleveland Indians vs. Los Angeles Angels
Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees
Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres
Atlanta Braves vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates and Indians are the only teams in the playoffs this year that weren't last year, replacing the Marlins and Royals.

Cubs results:

Game 1: Cubs win 7-4, guaranteeing a better playoff run than last year, when they were swept in the first round

Game 2: Cubs lose 8-5

Game 3: Cubs win 4-3, in a 13 inning game

Game 4: Cubs win! 2-0, I pitched 8 shutout innings, facing 24 batters and allowing just two hits, I had just two strikeouts, but was obviously very effective anyway. I got the win as well, as the Cubs scored their runs in the 5th inning, Dempster came in for the 9th and got the save, allowing no hits.

Other playoff results:

Angels over Indians 3-2
Tigers over Yankees 3-1
Pirates over Braves 3-1

---

So the Cubs have moved on to the second round of the playoffs, they will be facing the Pirates for a chance to move on to the World Series. This is the first time in 15 years the Cubs have made it to the second round of the playoffs, and the first time in my 10 year career that I've made it past the first round of the playoffs. So both the team as a whole and me personally should really be motivated to push this run all the way now.

2018 Playoffs:

Round 2 Matchups:

Los Angeles Angels vs. Detroit Tigers
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs

Cubs results:

Game 1: Cubs win 6-3

Game 2: Cubs lose 3-1

Game 3: Cubs win 7-6

Game 4: Cubs win 5-4

Game 5: Cubs win! 5-4!!! I pitched in this game, and did not do as well as I would have hoped, giving up a 3 run home run in the first inning, and I was worried things were over right then. Then I gave up another run in the third. They took me out of the game after just 5 innings, giving up 4 runs. I thought I had the energy to at least go another inning or two, but the manager must have felt it wasn't my night, as I gave up 7 hits. In the 8th inning, down 4-1, the Cubs rallied back with 4 runs to take a 5-4 lead, capped off by a 3 run home run by Alex Rodriguez. Dempster came in for the 9th and got the save, my reliever, Menchaca, pitched 3 scoreless innings and took the win.

In the other series, the Angels took down the Tigers in 7 games, to secure their meeting with the Cubs in the World Series.

---

So, this is it. The moment I've been waiting for all my life, the World Series, who would have guessed I could get this far with the Cubs? This is the first time the Cubs have made it into the World Series in 73 years, and you can bet we don't have any plans on stopping here. Of course, the Angels are most likely going to want to win too, so it should be a tough series.

Well, this is unusual.

What are the odds Valtieri doesn't get a WS start?

Statistically, we're looking at 6.25%

Realistically, it's probably closer to 70% because the Cubs are allergic to winning

What are the odds that it isn't a sweep?

50-50, he either get one or he doesn't. I'm sure that's how math works, right?

A video for the World Series is now scheduled for June 15th, 5 PM ADT. I guess I'll write in the text update sometime after that.

Well, the video is up. It didn't turn out to be as good of a video as I would have hoped, partially due to external factors, but you can see the results and everything in it, so I guess it's okay.

wow, impressed that you've stuck with the My Life mode this long - and chronicling of it. Congrats on the WS ring.

Its cool to see the video - I never, ever pitch from that batter-angle. I love the over the shoulder view too much.

Its kind of crazy that so many 40+ guys are still around...A-rod, A-ram, jack wilson? Wow. Mo just retired in 2018?!? lol. This game's draft, rookie generation, and roster setup was broken from the start...it can stay realistic for 3-4 years, but at this point, the entire game is different...heck about half of the All Stars for 2014 weren't even in the 2008 game. Too bad it can't be easily updated.

Post subject:  Re: Vicente Valtieri - P (My Life Log)

I think the rookie generation is too biased towards good pitchers, and the hitters all suck. That may be why I get such good pitching stats now. It's like half a lineup is rookies who can't hit, and half is 40 year olds who somehow still can.

I never usually pitch, but for playoffs you pretty much have to, so you can get the stats and such. I think you might be able to watch, but then you're still affected by the curse of lacking run support, so you have to take control to overcome it.

I'm still trying to take the log to the end, but it may take me another 20 years of real time to get there. And I've delayed writing the text version of the last update for over a month now.

Have you gotten to the World Series Parade?

2018 Playoffs:

World Series Matchup:

Los Angeles Angels vs. Chicago Cubs

Results:

Game 1: Cubs win 6-5

Game 2: Cubs win 12-2

Game 3: Cubs win 10-3

Game 4: Angels win 6-5

Game 5: In 11 innings, in a 2-1 game, the Chicago Cubs have done it, they've won the World Series! For the first time in 110 years! I pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just 1 run and managing 3 strikeouts, I got the no-decision, but with the team managing this win, I could hardly care about that.

---

We've done it, in 5 games, the World Series is ours. It's the first World Series I've ever won, and the first one the Cubs have won that anyone still alive would be able to remember. Alex Rodriguez took the World Series MVP, as a pitcher, I obviously had no chance, so I give my congratulations to him, even though I don't care for him as a person, I'd never tell him that. I'm still in disbelief over winning this, it's pretty much the last award I had to win, now I'm truly at the height of my career, I've got maybe another 10 years left, and, this may be a bit arrogant, but I believe I've already pretty much guaranteed myself a spot in the Hall of Fame, barring any unfortunate incidents.
