First off I'm brand new to this board, but not brand new to the game. I stumbled upon this game at a local Best Buy a couple years ago and thought I'd give it a shot. I played the ever loving stuffing out of MLBPP 07 and quickly bought 08 when it came out. I have a quick question about my MLB Life mode pitcher.

I'm in year 2 and I changed my role this year from closer to starter. My team is in dead last place and it's around mid to late May at this time. My pitcher is currently 0-5 with a E.R.A. somewhere around 2.00 I have almost 60 K's to this point in the year, but my main question is this: Is there a way to do better, or ensure that I get some run support from my team? I mean literally every time I pitch, I either get 0 or 1 run of support from my team. I mean for crying out loud, I had a perfect game through 8 and 1/3 innnings against the Pirates when the manager pulled me because I was tired, and my team had only managed 3 hits and 0 runs. I can't tell you how many games I have played where I don't give up any runs through 5+ innings, but my team scores 0 runs as well. I know that my team isn't all that good, but I should get some run support shouldn't I? Has anyone else been struck with this misfortune? All 5 of my loses are because I gave up 1 run in like the 6th inning or something. Occasionally I'll have a start where I give up 2 runs, but I have never given up more than 3 total. I had one game where I gave up 3 in the first inning and then nothing for the next 5. I love the game, and love the challenge, but it is getting frustrating at this point. Any ideas?

Everybody has gone through this, man. Everybody on this forum. There are actually no ideas, other than making or playing with a guy with a better offense. You're playing with the Reds, right? The hope for everybody is that this gets fixed in the next version.

Welcome to the forums! Check this thread if you haven't already.

Lol, yep, I'm curesed with the Reds. You would think that they would have a decent offense given Griffey and Dunn are still there. Although Phillips was traded for Matt Cain last season.

Guess I will just tough it out and see what happens.

On a side note, is there ever a true free agency period? Or is it just a contract renewal from year to year?

Yeah there is, but you can only join that after your 6th year.

This is the reason you want to be a closer in My Life.

i'll tell ya what, I liked closing tbh, but a few seasons ago I decided to switch my pitcher from closing to starting, as he has the stamina to do so (low B when I decided to go through with it, low A now). I went into the 11th(!) holding down a shutout, frustrated cus the O's couldn't do much of anything offensively either (IIRC we endedup losing in the 15th, 16th, something like that, I was long gone by then).

Wow, I seem to be doing better and I'm using the Giants, they suck major gonads! I mean, the new pitcher I made was to help my team offensively, and now, for some reason, my team is winning now. So far, I'm 14-1 with an ERA under .50 I think, but even I'm surprised. I gave up a few HRs to some good batters, but other then that, mistakes by the AI, and some darn good batting.

Yet, with my old pitcher, way more kick ass in terms of abilities and what not, he was a beast, striking out more guys then my current pitcher, though he never got run support. Honestly, you gotta do it yourself in this game, cause they still seem to have the Success mode mentality in tact.

So it's a created pitcher that can hit?

Sort of, D contact, F power and B running speed. XD He's a SS as a secondary position. It's what my brother said I would be like in the game, though he though I should have had like, E contact, C Power, B speed and Arm, and fielding was fine since they're both E . XD

But yes, he can hit, and thank goodness too, considering he's got the highest average of all pitchers, and managed a solo bomb, and still get runs because I score from second, WHOOOOO!
