Post subject:  Can abilities be lost?

I've started My Life with a catcher from Success Mode who had Contact Hitter ability. In the middle of a rookie slump, I notice that I'm getting down-arrows for that ability, and its bar is declining. If the bar declines far enough, does that mean I lose Contact Hitter? (And if so, how far down?) Or am I gradually losing the benefits of the ability the whole way down?

I guess I don't fully understand it going the other direction as well...if, for instance, I start increasing the bar under an ability I didn't have, do I have to wait until it's full to see any benefit?

Yeah, you will
for an instance you have contact hitter ability and then you didn't get any hits, it will decrease, and once it reaches the left side, you will lose it
You will lose the benefits too

To the increasing abilities, you will get it once it's highlighted blue, and the benefits will be unlocked

and on the flipside, you can gain red abilities just like you gain the blue ones. for instance, my Mariners pitcher always seems to teeter near the cusp of "gaining" Fastball Life 2.

Thanks for the replies. I've finished my first season with this player, and he's coming along nicely...except it looks like I'm bound to lose Contact Hitter at some point in my second season.

Either I'm not doing something right, or the play-balancing is screwy with this ability. I finished my rookie season batting .358, reeled off a 38-game hitting streak midseason...and still I've lost over half of the bar under this ability.

I don't suppose anyone has discovered any secret to hanging on to Contact Hitter?

The topic concerns the same thing you're talking about, more or less

I had seen that thread...good info. It confirms what I had already figured, to wit:

To hold onto Contact Hitter, you must make sure that the number of games where you go hitless is outnumbered by the number of games where you get at least three hits. (Heavily outnumbered, even...since it certainly seems to me like the chunks it takes out of the bar going downward are thicker than the slivers it adds going upwards.)

I guess what I'm saying is that I find this an unrealistic expectation. How many real-life Major Leaguers manage to pull this off?

I'm not one for using cheats or exploits in games, unless it's to correct seriously out-of-whack play-balancing. For this game, I think this issue qualifies, and wish there was something I could do. I started to become a little fixated on seeing my Contact Hitter ability ebbing away...it put a real damper on what ought to have been a glorious rookie season.

Having a good average gets contact hitter, I presume.
Power hitter by getting homers above 30, or by having a good career homers
The ability-rater in the real world must have overlooked each players gaming, thus making the abilities what they are

I too have the same problem. However, my player is playing very well yet at the attribute increase/decrease screen he seems to lose points on most attributes that he had to start with.
