I've been thinking a lot about retirement. My guy is at the top of the world. He's the best player in the league and most all of his skills are maxed. He'll get 600 HRs early next season. He'll get to 756 before he turns 33. Sadaharu Oh's record should be in sight before he turns 37. He should be able to get to 3000+ hits shortly after that or possibly even before that.

So I think this guy will call it quits if he has already broken Oh's HR record of 868 and has over 3000 hits.

What about you guys? What are reasonable stats for you to finish your careers with?

Go to the end. Then with your next player try and beat your last career records.

Turn up the difficulty, or turn down your player's abilities... or both. Those are not 'reasonable' stats.. I do realize its a video game though, so whatever makes it fun for you.

Trust me I know.Tell that to some of the guys getting 130 HRs in their rookie year. I play on expert difficulty. My guy was decent to start but you know how it goes. Skills raise quickly even without practicing. I don't ever practice alone. That's why I want to retire instead of playing the whole way through. Why would I bother playing 20 years when my guy will end up with over 1000 HRs? Come on now?

You can speed up the pitch speed, as well as turn off all of the pitching indicators if you want to increase difficulty.

The other way, is to bring up a guy that limped through success mode, which is what I'm doing now with the guy I cleared Success Mode with the first time through (mostly E-F stats). I spent 2008 in AAA and now working on getting a decent job in the bigs.

i like playing on normal to begin with to see what i get in mlb life until i retire then when i see basicly the (game over you completed the game sign) i play "real" under the hardest difficulty

besides if we didn't play under easy and get 10000 homeruns, how would the fine people in mlbppworld know what happens?

Very true. That's my next character. I was going to start a speedster type slap hitter next direct from Life mode this time. I started him up and his power is at 40 so It'll be a few years before he ever hits one over the fence.

My current character was actually a remake of one of my first success guys from last year's version so I'm really attached to him. I gotta finish his career up.

I started thinking about this as well. I am behind in posting an update in my player log thread, but ever since his TRJ went from 2 to 3 late in 2013, my guy has been a terror. He was already a high average guy despite a D CON, but now even with B PWR (currently ~160) he's killing everything. Hit 81 homers in 2014, and I'm just to 7/1 in 2015 and he's got 65 home runs. I double-checked the difficulty settings, and the CPU is on Powerful for everything. I have had lock-on at 1, which through most of his career hasn't felt overpowered. After this season I'll turn off lock-on altogether, and hopefully that will level out the stats some. He started out pretty weak stats-wise in year 1, but has built up to B level in just about everything in his 8th year.

He's only 25 though, but I'm already wondering when I'll pull the plug on his career. I had always intended to go the full 20 years, but we'll see. I've seen someone mention that when skills start declining in MLB Life isn't fixed at age 35 for all players, and can start happening earlier. I'm actually kind of hoping my guy starts declining around 30.
