I decided to make a new MLB Life character. I am a CF, I showed up at spring training and Oakley was a CF too, that means I have to "fight" Oakley for the starting job. Has this ever happened to anyone?

On a side note, it does seem more difficult to be a fielder on a major league team, because you have to take a proven starters position, unlike pitching.

Yup - and your fielding skill matters too. Even though I cracked the lineup at DH at the start of May in my first year (spent a couple of weeks in AAA at the start), I didn't become the everyday 3B until July of 2012 (year 5) when the team traded away the starting 3B because my FLD and E RES were always worse than another 3B on the roster.

I've heard someone else say that about Oakley in a different thread. It seems his position can vary a good bit depending on what position you are. He's a CF in my game where I'm a 3B, but in a game I'd started as a SP he's a 1B I think (haven't touched that MLB Life player in almost a month, only played it through spring training 2008 anyway).

Same with me. With my MLB Life pitchers, Oakley is a pitcher. With my MLB Life CF for NYY, Oakley is also a CF and got traded to the Pirates mid-season.

We both started in Dodgers, he's now in Washington, I'm miserable in Pittsburgh.

Oakley is a career minor leaguer in my game. He got traded to Oakland in 2008, and when I looked at him last night he's still on their AAA roster (2014).

I hate the Giants in this game. They are such idiots! Oakley is worthy of being a Long Reliver, at least, since he has C Stamina and control, and everyone else just sucks gonads compared to him. I mean, c'mon! We have our starters, go with a strong bullpen! And get rid of Misch!

Fielding matters, but not too much. My MLB Life char is no way better fielding than Melky. He has better fielding and arm. But I took his position away when I hit 3 HRs in spring training to start 2008. Started the first game of 2008. Don't hurt when I avg 1.8 HRs a game.

I have two SPs in MLB Life, both have Oakley as Pitcher.

But the point is, your fielding *is* better. I was stuck at DH for 4.5 years despite winning the Hitter of the Year award year after year, because my FLD and E RES was below my competition for the position. It may vary somewhat, in that if you're on a team that already has a strong DH your bat might get you on to the field anyway. But if your fielding ability is below your competitor and your team doesn't have a great DH already, you may find yourself stuck at DH for awhile.

Yeah, you're right. Had a few pretty powerful DH. Now, A-Rod is mostly the DH.

Oakley got traded from Boston to SD, and became an everyday player. My question is, how can a guy in SD have lunch with me in Boston and make it back in time for a game against LA?

Maybe it's a virtual lunch. You both have your laptops with video chat open and eat your lunches. It's a small world after all. Don't start singing...

You weren't playing them, were you? Or maybe he had an off day and was playing the mets or another close by team the next day? Never know
