I use the wiimote and nunchuk. I was using the cube controller. Either one will work but I like the wireless aspect of the wiimote.

GC Controller, the wireless one.

I'll use the Remote+nunchuck for long success mode runs, because holding down Z on the GC controllers gets pretty tiring.
