there is no list of "speakable" names, but some basic last names are there.

I'm worried that I might pick a name that has a first name attached to it. Like when I picked "Backe" for my life mode, they called him Brandon Backe instead of just Backe or Garret Backe.

on the wii, you test with left and right on the d-pad. I'm sure there is a similar "test" buttons on the PS2 (it tells you on the bottom of the screen anyways).
