Giving success mode a shot. May take me forever if I get fired too often, but fingers crossed. Anyways, here's what I thought I would shoot for as far as abilities:

Top Speed: 94 MPH
Control: 100-110
Stamina: 100-115
Curve 2-3
Change 2-3
Specials:
w/RISP 2
Fastball Life 4
Walk

Feedback is much appreciated.

I always buy Shiny Fragrences from the Shop and use them before each game, it is also beneficial if you go to practice with the coach icon on it.
Abilities look good. This might help you out with them: wiki/index.php?title=Full_List_of_Abilities_and_How_to_Get_Them_2008. Good luck!

Prince's Necklace is probably a better option, since it lasts forever and you only spend $300 on it one time instead of $50 times nine or ten...equaling ~$500, and you don't get all the benefits of it in practice...

Hmm, this is the first time I've heard of the necklace, is it in the shop? I may have to try that out next time...

Yeah, it's in the shop under the last tab, with the Gambler's Tickets and Focus Stones and such. It's in the shop a very high percentage (think 85%-99%) of the time from what I've seen

Ok, I'll try that using Hicks, almost done with Pinto

So, I decided to take this guy up. Came out well, with some unwanted abilities and Top Speed a bit low. I had 94 Top Speed and 113 Stam, but in last practice, with a 1% chance injury rating, I get injured. God, I hate this game sometimes. Still very accurate. Enjoy!
