He just signed a big contract with the Red Sox: 6 years/$72 million What does everyone think his abilities should be? I'd like to be the first to make him. I'm thinking Trajectory 2 or 3 Contact E or D Power C? Run Speed B? Arm Strength D? Fielding C or D E Res D or E The Fangraphs article I linked to has some good stuff on him. Feedback would be much appreciated! |

Here's my take on Castillo (who really should've signed with the Tigers, because we need him more than they do, plus they suck, anyway I digress...) I've seen reports where he sounds like a more powerful Brett Gardner, and that he had "surprising" power in his workouts. He usually get signed pretty darned early in OOTP, and most of the sims I have have him in his first season around a .260-.270 average, so a Low D contact would be what I would do, along with High D-Low C power. Trajectory should probably be around a 2. As for defense, his run speed is pretty good where it is, and I think for the rest of it, it should be all Ds, except for the Fielding, which should be a C. |

Special abilities? Not quite sure on that, since we have little to go on from his playing days in Cuba, and he hasn't appeared in the bigs yet. |

Archer? .260-.270 is probably a high D in today's pitcher friendly MLB, and if he's got more power than Brett Gardner I'd definitely go with at least a C, perhaps a low B. |

so what I'm thinking now is something like TRJ 2 CON 9 (D) PWR 130 (C) SPD 12 (B) ARM 8/9 (D) FLD 11 (C) ERES 8/9 (D) with no specials thanks to everyone who has put in suggestions so far! |

.260-.270 is an 8, not a 9 fyi |

Maybe GD IF hitter? I would even consider lowering his contact by 1 down from 8 and/or giving him timely whiff as he is an aggressive hitter. There are reports that he may even be better suited to LF with his arm strength. |

There are reports that he may even be better suited to LF with his arm strength. He's played all over the field - center field, right field, second base, and third base if I remember right. I might give him 2B and either 3B or RF as a second position but don't see anything that says he played any left field (which is strange, with his average arm/solid range). GD IF Hitter is a possibility. I don't know about Timely Whiff as I may or may not have the required 80 scout eval by the 3rd or 4th game (after which I would need to start intentionally striking out) |

You can get timely whiff at Siitch's first water exercise. If you guess intentionally wrong you can get timely whiff, but you may need to S/L. |

I only thought timely whiff due to his aggressive batting tendencies. GD IF hitter was to address his speed on the base paths. |

Yeah, I know he's an aggressive hitter - too bad you can't get that ability in '08 success... By the first exercise are you referring to the "alter ego" event? And if so, do I have to guess wrong on the first try (as in, I can't get any right?) |

If you really want Agg Htr, etc, you can always edit Justin Upton. Both players were born in 1987, about three months apart. Of course, an edited Castillo would be making a lot less money than a Success Castillo... |
