okay, here's my advice: pitch velocity - back in 08/09, he averaged 94+ mph. He's not as fast anymore, but I think his top speed has to be at least 94, maybe 95. According to fangraphs (http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx? ... P&pitch=FA) he still reaches 94 today. control low C or high D is fine - 3.3 BB per 9 innings, not abnormal stamina sounds fine the pitch types you have are pretty much dead on for his current repertoire. If you have the time or ability, adding his old slider is fine too (1-2). He stopped throwing it in favor of the cutter, apparently. AVOID VS LEFTY 4 if you can. This might mean having to bean or walk lefties towards the end of triple-A. Chavez has allowed way more homers to lefties, and they're hitting him better this year (altho oddly career wise lefties have a lower BA and OBP...and slugging...so vs Lefty 4 isn't a deal breaker). |

yeah its been hard. Once you are in triple-A and you have gotten a certain number of lefties out, you seriously cannot get another lefty out. That means walking or beaning ALL of them. Some triple-A lineups are 8 lefties in a row, so this means a total loss/meltdown where you are pulled in the 2nd inning. Beaning just goes faster, if you have a curve or slider that can hit them in the knee or toe. Even with that strategy, your guy will mess up, throw one down the middle, and the lefty will pop out and you'll get Vs Lefty 4 anyway. So yeah its annoying. With Fister right now, first game of AAA I am replaying it and trying to go soft on lefties to not get my lefties-out number too high yet. Tough to balance that when I still need scout points! Ugh. |
