Post subject:  SP Mat Latos (Wii) - Padres, Reds

So here's a guy no one has done, that has been a fringy ace for the Padres and Reds over the past few years. I will attempt to make him tonight - help and feedback appreciated.

My original thoughts are
Quote:
Mat Latos - Padres in '08, righty SP, FB top speed 96, 2SFB 1, SLD 3, Curveball 1, changeup 1

contributor Eric Davis 44 had this in 2011:
Quote:
Mat Latos , , SD , 22 , 1 , SP , SP , 160 , 152 , Fastball Life 4, W/RISP 4, Dr. K, Hot Head Recovery,

and this in 2012:
Quote:
P , 2 , Mat Latos , Latos , Mat , , CIN , P , SP , 24 , 142 , 163 , , , , , , , , rel2 , rec4 , , , , , , , Dr. K , , , , , , , , cons4 , , over , 97 , 4SFB , , SLV , 4 , 2SFB , 2 , CHG , 4 , CB , 2 , ,

wikipedia has some good detail, too:
Quote:
Latos throws five pitches. He throws a four-seam fastball (91 to 96 miles per hour (146 to 154 km/h)), a two-seam fastball (90 to 94 miles per hour (145 to 151 km/h)), a slider (84 to 87 miles per hour (135 to 140 km/h)), a curveball (78 to 82 miles per hour (126 to 132 km/h)), and a changeup (82 to 85 miles per hour (132 to 137 km/h)). He mostly relies on his four-seamer and slider against right-handed hitters while adding considerable variety against lefties.[43] The 42% whiff rate on his slider is one of the best among major league starters.[44]

So averaging EricDavis' ideas, with wiki, fangraphs, and my own, I come up with something like this:

top speed 96
control 150?
stamina 150? He's averaged over 6 innings, but has very few CG's, so low to mid B I am thinking
2SFB 2-3 (per fangraphs, this pitch moves the MOST of any he throws)
SLD 2-3 (his slider has had z-Mov off and on, so I can understand SLV, but it averages around 0 over the years and was often negligible. However, his slider is one of the best at inducing whiffs [top 20]...so we need to consider 3-4)
CB 1-3
CHG 1-3??
Fastball Life 4, maybe
w/RISP 4 maybe
recovery 4 maybe
Dr. K maybe, probably not, don't want to overpower him
Release 2, maybe
something like Hot Head or Poor Morale - he was known to yell at teammates when they made errors, or umpires with bad calls...

feedback welcome! This guy's one of the best starters from '09-'12, so we gotta do him right...

Top speed 96
Control high-C/low-B
Stamina low/mid-B

Hard Slider 2
Splitter 5
Curveball 2
2SFB 2

Recovery 4
Fastball Life 4
Spin 4?
Dr. K - No. His K rate is declining
Release 2?
Hot Head

That's what I would go with at least

He should definitely have A Stamina if he's an ace, expecially with the way Stamina works in the game

I'd also give him low-B control

AgentP, what are you looking at to determine Hard Slider and Splitter? The slider might made sense just based on velocity I guess? But splitter I have no idea, nothing I've looked at describes it at such.

The "FC" listed on Fangraphs has great Z-movement like a split would, and the change is just a slower version of that - and he hasn't been using that much of late

Whew! Thanks to chat advice, I hit a TOn of batters my last two games to avoid vs lefty 4. I had to settle for poise 4 instead of the other blues.

Just so happy it's over god
