At 31 years old, Smorin is an established starting pitcher past his prime, but is still an effective pitcher who excels at getting ground balls. Smorin was also formerly a two-way player, often playing third base or the corner outfield when not pitching, and while he is no longer able to play such a role, he is still an accomplished hitter. He's also known for the extreme amounts of emotion that he puts into his game -- though channeling that into a positive has sometimes been a struggle for the righty.
