November 22,2007 Ryan Michaels woke up in his bed. His wife was beside him. He glanced over at the clock on his bedside table. It was 6:12 A.M. "Man it's early," he thought to himself. He quietly got out of bed and went to the kitchen to make some breakfast. He grabbed the bread and ketchup out of the pantry and made a ketchup sandwich. "The breakfast of champs," he thought to himself before gulping it down in 2 bites. He went to the living room and turned on Sportscenter. He saw the "Breaking News" headline in the top left corner. It read "MLB lockout comes to an end after 54 days." As he finished reading the headline, the phone rang. He answered the phone. "Hello, Ryan Michaels speaking." "Hello Ryan, this is John Henry, co-owner of the Boston Red Sox. I've called you to ask if you have any interest in the Red Sox GM position." Ryan nearly spit out the water he had been drinking. "What!?!?!?!?! Is this some kind of prank?" "You heard me correctly sir. This is no prank. Our former GM, Theo Epstein, quit right before the lockout ended. Truth be told, you're our last option. I heard you studied sports management at UMASS. Is that correct?" "Yes." "I also heard you still live in Massachusetts, and that you are only 28. Is that correct?" "Yes." By this time his wife had woken up and was standing in the doorway. "Well, what do you think? Will you be the GM of the Boston Red Sox?" "Yes sir. I'd be proud too." He was getting giddy at this point. "Sweet. Meet me tomorrow in my office." "Alright sir, thank you." "Oh I forgot to mention. In order for the lockout to end, the players demanded that there be a new draft of all MLB players since most of the players were unhappy with their team. It will be held in Secaucus, New Jersey on December 2." "Alright sir. See you tomorrow." |

November 23,2007 Ryan walked into the building Mr.Henry had told him the address to yesterday, and walked up to the lady at the front desk "Excuse me. I came to see Mr.Henry about the Red Sox GM job." "What's your name?" She asked while texting someone on her IPhone. "It's Ryan Michaels." He told her. She picked up a phone, entered a few numbers, and talked to someone on the phone. She hung up. "He's ready for you. To get to his office, go to floor five, and take a right. It's the first one on the right." "Thank you." He left. When he got to Henry's office, he knocked on the door. "Come in." He heard from the other side. He entered the office. He saw Mr.Henry sitting in a chair behind a desk. When he saw Michaels, he immediately got up. "Hey. There's our new GM. How are you?" He asked. "Yeah, I'm excited to be a part of such a historic team." He said trying to contain his happiness, but failing. "Well, today I'm just going to tell you about your responsibilities. You have to hire a new manager, and manage the team's expenses. If the team goes into debt, you're fired. Also your contract is for 10 years, but you can be fired before that." They talked for a few more minutes before they finished. "Thank you for hiring me Mr.Henry," Ryan said. "You're welcome Mr.Michaels. See you December 2." With that, Ryan left. |

Any feedback would be appreciated. December 2,2007 Ryan arrived at the place where the MLB Draft was going to be held, dressed in a suit and tie. The winter weather gave him chill bumps and the wind bit at his face. He walked into the building shivering, and was met with a blast of warmth when he walked into the room. He saw the table marked for the Boston Red Sox baseball organization, and approached it. He noticed a female already sitting at the table. He started to wonder who she was. Then he remembered that Mr. Henry mentioned her in an email about a week earlier. Her name was Cassandra Dees. He approached the table. "Hello, I'm Ryan Michaels. The new GM." She jumped slightly in her seat, startled by his sudden approach. "Oh, Hello Ryan. I'm Cassandra Dees, but you can call me Cassy." She replied. "It's nice to meet you Cassy. I look forward to doing business with you." The commissioner walked out and the draft got under way. |

Game 4 @Oakland Athletics 5-4 Red Sox The Red Sox started off hot, scoring 3 runs in the first. 2 off a homer by Ortiz, and the other on a blooper to left by Longoria, following a double by Jenkins. The A's answered back with a run of their own. A-Rod doubled to score Hudson from first. Ortiz tacked on a solo shot in the top of the third to make it 4-1 Sox. The A's got that run back though, on a solo shot from A-Rod. They added another on a single down the third base line from Torrealba to make it 4-3 Sox. Pena grounded into a bases loaded FC to tie that game at 4. Lincecum was removed after 4 innings of work, giving up 4 runs on 10 hits and striking out 3. Hamilton doubled in Gomes in the 5th, giving Boston their 2nd lead of the game. That was the last of the scoring, as the Red Sox bullpen pitched lights out. Giving up 3 hits and not allowing the A's to get a runner in scoring position. Chulk recorded his 2nd save of the year, as the Red Sox take it, 5-4. Rowland-Smith gets the win, as Robertson takes the loss |
