November 1, 2016 OFFSEASON Retiring Players, Individual Titles, and Award Winners After a saddening exit out of the playoffs, it's back to the drawing board. The first step to getting back to the playoffs is the offseason. When players finish up their careers, teams restock, and awards are given out to the league's top performers. While we were amazing this season, there's always ways to improve the team. Before we get to free agency and re-signing players, let's first check out some of the news that broke out with the end of this 2016 season. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Retiring Players C Barajas IF Inge C Schneider P Mota IF M.Young 1B/3B Branyan LV P Kobayashi P Byrdak IF Wigginton IF/OF Hairston Jr. P J.Vazquez P Dickey ESPN had this to say about one of the retirees: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Individual Titles Batting Average 1B Pujols .390 SS Rollins .363 HRs 1B Pujols 50 OF C.Gonzalez 45 RBIs 1B Pujols 190 OF C.Gonzalez 171 SB OF Ellsbury 53 OF Morgan 42 ERA NJ P F.Hernandez 2.09 P Bumgarner 3.22 W NJ P F.Hernandez 22 P Bumgarner 17 SV NJ P Chapman 41 P B.Wilson 29 Ks NJ P F.Hernandez 225 P Halladay 263 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Awards MVP 1B Pujols .390/50/190 SS Rollins .363/13/120 Cy Young NJ P F.Hernandez 22-4, 2.09, 225 K P Bumgarner 17-5, 3.22, 133 K Hank Aaron 1B Pujols .390/50/190 OF C.Gonzalez .305/45/171 Delivery Man of the Year NJ P Chapman 41/41 SV, 1.64, 72 K, .185 BAA P B.Wilson 29/30 SV, 5.16, 41 K, .273 BAA ROTY P Halter (83/E/C) 35 IP, 4-1, 3.09, 24 K, .194 BAA P Wesson (86/E/C) 33.1 IP, 3-0, 3.51, 34 K --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gold Glove Award Winners OF Repko OF Golson OF Ellsbury NJ SS B.Phillips 2B F.Sanchez NJ 3B Longoria 1B D.Murphy C G.Laird P R.Romero OF G.Parra OF Morgan OF D.DeJesus SS Rollins 2B Iribarren 3B C.Tracy 1B Ishikawa C Shoppach P Iwakuma --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Silver Slugger Award Winners OF Cespedes .294/30/130 NJ OF B.Carter .273/41/134 OF Granderson .288/31/109 SS A.Rodriguez .335/37/105 2B Kipnis .333/14/122 3B M.Cabrera .334/39/146 1B Pujols .390/50/190 C Mauer .309/12/106 DH E.Encarnacion .297/31/92 OF C.Gonzalez .305/45/171 OF A.Soriano .329/26/92 OF Holliday .319/24/101 SS Rollins .363/13/120 2B Uggla .287/29/120 3B Sandoval .336/16/94 1B Howard .310/42/144 C Rosario .291/31/137 P LeCure .333/1/15 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All-Star Game MVP OF J.Upton World Series MVP OF Oeltjen |

November 8, 2016 OFFSEASON Contract Renewal Next on the offseason checklist is re-signing players before free agency opens up. Considering our primarily young roster, my plan is to lock up most if not all the players eligible to leave to long-term contracts. Some guys will be stingy and want a raise, so bringing them back for more than one season might be difficult. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SP Brooks (16-8, 3.21, 198 K) 8370 ↑ 9200 SP Kershaw (**20-4, 2.57, 147 K) 1490 ↑ 5660 SP M.Moore (19-2, 3.31, 123 K) 1050 ↑ 3360 SP Haynes (5-2, 3.86, 38 K) 390 ↑ 720 RP Perkins (1-4, 1.91, 3 SV, 31 K) 420 ↑ 780 RP Venters (1-0, 2.56, 19 SV, 35 K) 770 ↑ 1840 RP J.Soria (1-2, 2.36, 6 SV, 37 K) 420 ↑ 750 RP Janssen (1-0, 0.00, 1 SV, 6 K) 420 ↑ 440 RP Axford (0-0, 3.45, 1 SV, 15 K) 400 ↑ 440 SP C.Stewart (3-2, 6.48, 1 SV, 26 K) 800 ↓ 440 SP Jarana (1-0, 0.87, 9 K) 530 ↓ 440 RP Sale (3-0, 1.70, 6 SV, 124 K) 2840 ↓ 2610 SU C.Price (3-0, 1.95, 1 SV, 58 K) 5780 ↑ 7410 CL Chapman (2-0, 1.64, *41 SV, 72 K) 6760 ↑ 7090 C Cervelli (.274/7/59, 10 SB) 430 ↑ 520 C Zieno (.270/0/3, 1 SB) 430 ↑ 440 C Wylie (.175/0/4, 1 SB) 610 ↓ 440 1B/3B Olt (.272/5/42, 11 SB) 460 ↓ 440 1B/3B/OF C.Davis (.260/29/101, 2 SB) 430 ↑ 440 3B Barker (.364/1/2) 390 ↑ 440 SS Cresse (.307/2/11, 3 SB) 430 ↑ 440 OF B.Carter (.273/**41/134, 16 SB) 5300 ↓ 3070 2B/OF Ackley (.312/2/72, 17 SB) 780 ↓ 440 OF Camacaro (.253/3/15) 430 ↑ 440 OF Schoening (.263/0/1, 1 SB) 610 ↓ 440 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fans, agents, let me know what you think. |

I wouldn't re-sign Axford, Stewart, or Wylie. Keep Wiley only if you don't have another catcher in AAA |

I've got to say, all the work you put into adding pictures really separates this log from the pack. There's no way in hell I'd take the time to put all those logos in. |

I think you should go for Chris Young, because he's young and is pretty solid. |

You need at least one starting pitcher, catcher(s), and outfielders. SP - I would go for Cain or Peavy C - McCann has the most value, but Pierzynski and V-Mart are also solid options OF - Chris Young, Bautista, Cruz, and maybe even Berkman are all good here. |
