In my season (see viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6447), I noticed a few strange/bad trades that the computer consummated between teams. I'm hoping to generate discussion on these trades, and for you to respond with the most lopsided trades you've seen.

I'm not interested about the "savvy, shrewed" trades you were able to pull off. I'm talking about bizarre trades between 2 computer teams.

Trade 1: Angels, in a penant race, trade star closer Francisco Rodriguez (97 CE SL – five, CB – five, CH – two; intimidator, Dr. K) and reliever Scott Shields (95 CE 2SF – two, SL – three, CB – three, CH – three) to the Padres in exchange for 2b Kaz Matsui (DDDECD; stealing – four, error-prone).

Comments: While one can defend the Angels trade by pointing to the fact that they traded away two pitchers in their final contract years in exchange for a player with two years beyond the current one, it is hard to defend them trading away one of the most dominant closers in the game for a backup second baseman/pinch runner. In my season, The Angels were fighting for their division lead, but collapsed, posting losing months in the last two months of the season, and falling out of contention.

Trade 2: Tigers trade SS Edgar Renteria (BBCCDC) for pitcher Erik Bedard (97 CA 2SF – two, CU – two, CB – three, CH – two) - I think Bedard was with the Mariners, but I failed to note it.

Comments: Both players are in their walk year and, clearly, Detroit made this move because of Renteria's age (versus Bedard's 29), but to trade one of the most dynamic shortstops in the game for a decent starting pitcher makes it easy to criticize the Tigers on this one. The Tigers could defend this better if they had moved Carlos Guillen (CBBCDD) from first base to shortstop, but they, instead, played Ramon Santiago (FFDCCD), instead.

Trade 3: The Rays trade 3B Longoria (EBECFE) to the Reds for Jeremy Affeldt (97 DE CU – three, DCB – two, CH – two).

Comments: although the Rays do you have another decent third baseman on their roster, Aybar, it is hard to defend trading away a young player with a good arm and B power for a relief pitcher in his walk year. Admittedly, pitchers that throw 97 mph are valuable, but with stamina that relegates him to a reliever and relatively moderate breaking pitches, the Reds clearly got the better of this deal.

In my Pirates log, Peavy and Meredith were traded for Paul Ozuna. And then Longoria was traded for Billy Wagner. Those caused me to get a bit crazy...

WHY IS THE TRADE A.I. SO STUPID? What is wrong with the teams! The Padres are gonna trade away a Cy Young Award winner and a very solid reliever for a utility guy? WHY!? And then the Rays one, IT'S A LOSE-LOSE DEAL. The Rays are giving up a great young third baseman for an old closer, and the Mets are giving away their closer for a backup third baseman! WHY!? And then there are some deals that I saw but had to reload until one team rejected it because they made so little sense! Like the Mariners traded away King Felix to the Nationals for Zimmerman, despite already having Beltre and Bautista! WHY!? The Red Sox had somehow gotten Hanley and Uggla just for Ellsbury and were willing to demote Pedroia! WHY!? The Rockies had given away Tulo, just for a middle reliever and backed infielder from the Twins! WHY!? None of it makes any sense!!!

Are you saying it's wrong to talk to a bag of Skittles? Because if so, I'm going to need to rethink a lot of things. :P

That rant was awesome, Skittles! Reases Pieces got nothin' on you!!!

I imagine your save/reload was only with trades that occurred on games you simmed, right?

Uhh I've seen the Phillies trade Chase Utley to the Angels for Kendry Morales.
