October 17th, 1979

"The Baltimore Orioles are only one strike away from another World Series!" calls Chuck Thompson on the local radio. "The Pirates are down by one here in the ninth, a runner on first, count 0-2. You got this boy! Cooper with the wind-up and the pitch." *smack* "That ball is crushed, going towards the track. It's up, still up. And it's gone, the Pirates win the World Series... Cooper Thompson gives up a bomb, sending the Orioles home with a dirty feeling in their mouth. It's OK son, you'll get 'em next time."

AHH!

That moment replays in my mind every night, that heartbreak of a loss. We could have won. We should have won! But I blew my only shot. I had one job as a closer, and I blew it. The next few years I suffered multiple injuries to my elbow and was out of the league near the end of '82, only to see my Orioles win it all the next season, in '83. I've seen a lot since that day. I saw the Berlin Wall come down in Germany. I saw the birth of both my kids. I saw my dad pass away in my arms after battling Cancer for seven years. I even saw Cal Ripken Jr. break Gehrig's streak for most consecutive games played. But I haven't seen Baltimore win it all, let alone compete, in a very long time.

After going to play golf with some buddies back from college, I decided to call it a day and head back home. Upon opening the front door, I was happily greeted by my loving wife Emma and fourteen year old daughter Alexis, and got a half-hearted hello from my son Cameron, who thinks a high school senior is too cool to greet his father. Upon plopping down on the couch, I turned on MASN and just couldn't comprehend the the main headline. "Andy MacPhail died today from an apparent heart attack" "What?" I think to myself. "He was just hired last June. What are they going to do?" As I'm thinking to myself, my wife whispers from the kitchen, "Cooper, you might want to check the answering machine." As I walk over, I'm kinda scared of what awaits me. I see there is one new message, and I press the button. "Hello there Mr. Thompson. It's Peter Angelos, the owner of the Baltimore Orioles. As you probably know, our General Manager position is now open after the tragic death of Andy, and we wanted to see if you were interested." My heart skipped a beat.

I walk into Peter Angelo's office, ready for my interview. "Hello there Mr. Angelo." is all I'm able to squeak out. My heart is pounding, my head is spinning, and a bead of sweat is rolling down the right side of my face. "Hello Cooper. We'd like you to know that you are the new President of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles. If you could just sign here, we can get to work." As a second of sadness, my mind registers that I'd gotten to job. I'm in utter disbelief! "Me? Really? Thank you Mr. Angelo! How'd you make up your mind so quickly?" "Well," he responds, "nobody else was interested. You were the only one who called back and was willing to take the challenge." As I read through and sign the papers, he explains what I have to do. "As the GM, your job is to turn us back into a competitor within ten years. To do so, you'll first have to hire some new guys to help out, assuming you want to start fresh." "Thank you for this opportunity Mr. Angelo. I guarantee I won't let you down!" With that, I stood up and left the room. But just before I closed the door, he told mentioned one more thing. "Hey Cooper, call me Peter." With a smile, I shut the door and started to think of possible coaches.

Sorry for the short update today, I'm not feeling too great. I have two things to say though. 1. I will need some people to help me. I need a Scout (helps with the draft), Trainer (helps with the training), Trade Advisor (helps with the trading), and an Intern (you don't do as much, but you make more appearances in the story :D). So if you are interested in any of those, PM me a "resume" and maybe you'll get chosen. 2. I plan to update this once a day from Monday-Saturday, and then update Survivor three-four times each Sunday, just in case you were wondering what my schedule was going to be.

If I get enough people to fill the other jobs, then yes. Although I only have 1 resume in so far

I would apply for the training thing, but I have no idea what a resume for something like that is supposed to be like.
