No such thing as McCarthy going cold.

So the Gunmen have 84 wins through mid-September and they still don't have a playoff berth. Stupid 1 wildcard rule.

It's because the four best teams in the AL are in two divisions, while the AL Central is basically just handing out wins.

Texas Rangers (60-90) vs. Honolulu Gunmen (84-66)
September 19th to 21st

A sweep of the lowly Rangers would go a long way in putting us in a position to make the playoffs.

Key Players:
Justin Verlander - SP
12-6, 2.17 ERA, 166.0 IP, 212 K
101, C, A, SLD(3), DCB(5), CCHG(2), Fastball Life 4, Spin 4, Dr. K, Gd Pickoff, Intimidator
Bio: In a move that I can't even begin to comprehend, the Tigers traded the third-year starter to Texas this July in exchange for Ben Broussard. Texas also took on the salaries of veterans Brandon Inge and Todd Jones in the transaction.
Analysis: Verlander leads the MLB in ERA and is 5th in strikeouts behind Kenneth Howard and Paul Ceplin of the Yankees, Eddie Cicotte of Sacramento, and Dan Haren of Arizona.

C.J. Wilson - SP
5-11, 4.39 ERA, 145.2 IP, 137 K
94, D, A, SLD(3), CB(3), CHG(2), SIFB(2), Groundball P, Gd Delivery, Power P
Bio: A great pitcher, Wilson's biggest flaw is his tendency to under-use his breaking pitches, as he mostly relies on his fastball.
Analysis: Wilson isn't having his best year, but he's still a solid pitcher,

Josh Hamilton - CF
.233/.304/.398, 20 HR, 77 RBI
3, B, A, D, C, D, E, Clutch Hit 4, Power Hitter, Spray Hitter, VS Lefty 2, Aggressive HTR
Bio: Approaching his 28th birthday, Hamilton is currently one of the best power hitters in the game. He regularly is among the league leaders in batting average, doubles, home runs, and slugging percentage.
Analysis: Forget all that. Hamilton's lackluster production has handcuffed his team's offense all season long.

Ian Kinsler - 2B
.258/.321/.444, 22 HR, 70 RBI, 23 SB
3, D, B, D, E, E, D, Vs Lefty 4, Tough Out, Stealing 4, Barehand CTH, Gd Rain, Gd Eye
Bio: 26-year old Ian Kinsler is a passionate and well-rounded player. He hits for good power for a second baseman and steals plenty of bases, all while having a good idea of the strike zone.
Analysis: Although it's not saying much, Kinsler leads the Rangers in OPS (.765), home runs (22), doubles (22), steals (23), and runs scored (65).

Projected Pitching Match-ups:

Game 1
Johnny Rivera (4-9, 3.44) vs. Justin Verlander (12-6, 2.17)

Johnny will look to bounce back from a rough outing (5.0 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 4 K) against the intimidating Verlander.

Game 2
Michael Davis (11-6, 3.79) vs. C.J. Wilson (5-11, 4.39)

While Davis has the better ERA, I'm hesitant to give our pitching the upper hand in this one. Our offense will have to play well.

Game 3
Cesario Castillo (7-10, 3.59) vs. Vicente Padilla (5-14, 6.16)

Padilla has been absolutely terrible all season long, and it's a wonder that he even gets to pitch at this point. His fastball can touch 96 but it's flat, his command is average, and his breaking balls are awful.

That trade annoyed me when I saw it... the Power Pros trade logic is maddeningly stupid.

I appreciate that. Glad you're still following and enjoying it.

There's a lot of stuff planned for the offseason and 2016. It should be interesting. But, first things first.

It took another nail biter, but we managed to squeak out another win. Rick Allen pitched a perfect 10th, and Matt McCarthy hit yet another walk-off home run to dead center.

Unfortunately that's probably exactly what he said.

"That's how pitching is supposed to be done."
