So I've decided to do my first season log here, and as you can tell, I'm doing the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hopefully I can keep this going as long as possible (the full ten seasons?) and win a couple championships while I'm at it. If you guys want I can do agents. The only rules are that you can only have two, you are stuck with whatever players you pick until they end up off the team (trade, release, retirement, etc.), and if you lose a player you are more than welcome to choose another one to replace him.

I believe most people here know who robhallett is, and of you don't, he makes hundreds of players for PS2. Using his players, along with a bunch from Eric Davis 44, I plan to put a spin on the draft. I've taken 90 players and plan to assign them to the ten worst teams for the next nine seasons. For example, in the first year, the Rays were the worst team, then the Pirates and Royals. So, of the ten players I select each year, I would assign the best one to the Rays, next best to the Pirates, and so on and so forth, until all ten players get chosen. Players will include the likes of Clayton Kershaw, Carlos Gonzalez, Andrew McCutchen, Stephen Strasburg, and Pablo Sandoval.

Also, I'd just like to add that this log takes inspiration from ChiCubFan's Royals log and BrewersFuzz's Massives log, so go read them if you have the time. :)

Season Preview

It's baseball season again folks! But be warned, if you want to see winning, you're better off watching the Penguins or Steelers because odds are the Pirates won't provide it. They have had fifteen consecutive losing seasons and there is little reason to believe they will turn it around this year. But it doesn't all look bleak. The three budding aces Maholm, Snell, and Duke look to form the top of a solid rotation within the next couple years. Jason Bay is perennial all-star who can do it all. He can hit for power and contact, has top class fielding skills, and possesses one of the strongest arms in the game. Plus, with the second overall pick this year, and likely another top five pick next year, the Pirates will be able to stock up on some much needed prospects. And if all that isn't enough, maybe their new manager Jason Stark and new GM Cooper Thompson can help bring a winning attitude to the clubhouse.

I'm wondering what the "twist" is.

I bet it's that you trade all the players, and eat bacon while doing so. :P

I'm just going to go ahead and assume it's not the same one I'm still waiting to be able to do in my log.

Pirates Sign Matt Morris

The Pirates make their first move of the season, signing Matt Morris to a one year deal worth 9500 points. Mr. Thompson confirmed the report, but was unavailable for any other other comments. Their manager Jason Stark on the other hand, answered questions from the media after the teams practice. "I think Matt [Morris] will be an excellent addition to our starting rotation going forward. He brings the veteran leadership to our young pitching staff. Some people may speculate about if he's worth the 9500 we're paying him. But you've got to realize that Matt has been in the big leagues eleven years now. The rest of our rotation [Gorzelanny, Maholm, Snell, and Duke] has combined for eleven. I'll just leave it at that." Due to the signing of Morris, Phil Dumatrait was sent down to AAA. "Phil [Dumatrait] has the top speed he needs and enough stamina should we end up using him in the bullpen. But his control and breaking pitches could use a little cleaning up down in the minors. We wish him the best of luck and hope to see him back here soon."

Ah, this sounds good.

Gimme T-Plush and... Ian Snell. Snell looks so evil in this game.

T-Plush is Nyjer Morgan.

Pittsburgh Pirates (0-0) @ Atlanta Braves (1-0)
March 31, 2008

Morris Brilliant in Pirates Debut

It's opening day for Pirates, who take on the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. The action started early, when Nady hit a single to shallow right-center, scoring Bay from second. On the very next pitch, Bautista slapped a ball up the middle, easily bringing LaRoche home from third. They wouldn't score any more after that, but that's all they needed. Morris was lights out, giving up only one run, four hits, and struck out 12 batters. It was bumpy in the first inning with three hits given up, including an RBI to Chipper Jones. In the second he gave up a slow rolling single to opposing pitcher, but it was smooth sailing after that. From that point on, Morris retired nineteen straight batters. Now in the ninth inning, Capps encountered some trouble. He gave up a couple hits to put runners on first and third with only one out. But Capps was able to regain his focus and lock down the opening day win by getting McCann to pop-up and Francouer to ground out
