Post subject:  player Development

Just wanted to start a thread on player development to share and get insights.

Im disappointed that the more advanced items that were available for purchase in the 2nd 1/2 of season one have been locked again. I purposely waited to buy them and now i see ill have to wait. Im simming more games, so im getting less points, so im not buying the less powerful items cuz thatll delay my ability to buy the pwr items later.

I did buy the silver ring - it says it makes all practices a little more effective, but i cant tell.

Also, it looks like my earnings from last year didnot carryover, so im not quite sure of the value of the points we earn fromthe world series, u less i should buy a lot of stuff after the WS and before theend of the year.

Once in awhile, i'll check on the players i traded away and they seem to not be improving. I checked 4 players and (if im remembering right) their rating has not changed. I thought that computer teams stick everyo e on auto-fix, so the weakest area gets developed, but maybe not.

How do you decide what to work on? I know there's a lot fo factors, but here are my considerations (sort of in order of priority):
1. What have i purchased that speeds development?
2. What factor are they close to improving to the next lvl?
3. For my bench-sitters, are they closer to being pinch hitters, pinch runners or defensive replacements?
4. Pitchers need to have some pitches at least at a 2, then have ctl of D, and then ill work on top spd or stam, depending on how i see them

How do decide when to move someone to rest-fitness and rest-rehab? What ive sorta been doing is that if a player goes blue and their fatigue rating is not full, i move them to fitness, and if their fatigue rating is full, i use rehab. Starting pitchers i generally leave alone since they get 5 or 6 days btn starts.

Equipment, including the Silver Ring, does make a small but noticeable difference. You can see by pressing (-) at the Practice screen. In addition to the player fatigue bars, the level of each practice will display at the top of the screen. The Ring improves all practices by one level.

Post subject:  do some players NOT develop?

I had a pitcher with E control that i set to praxtice control. Its been a real long time and he hasnt improved. Do some players just stay the same?

Ive got a catcher that i want to change positioms, mainly to increase trade value. Stats are D C E C C C. Im thinking that those are good stats for any position. Which positions do you think have the best trade value?

Shortstop maybe? I was messing around, and converted a player to pitcher, and he sucks. 0 breaking balls, top speed of 74, and 0 stamina and 0 control. I was expecting the 0 BB, but I thought that top speed would be a LITTLE higher, but 0 stamina and control is ridiculous.

Why wouldn't you look at the pitching stats before converting them? 74 top speed is pretty good for a position player.

I don't know. I thought all position players were at 49. I'll check sometime if I remember.

As for positions with trade value, I got a couple good trade offers for catchers that has no value to me. It really depends on what team you want to trade with and what positions they need. I think.

Post subject:  do some players underachieve, overachieve, and max out?

Ive noticed a couple of phenomena that might be in my head, but i figure id ask.

1 The backup Rays catcher, shawn riggins, seems to have maxed out on pwr @ 65. ive been training him up on that for awhile with no change, and even his pwr experience seems locked up. Do you think some players just wont improve in 1 phase of the game?

2 Matt Kemp from the Dodgers starts with a cont/pwr rating of DC, and it goes up to CC pretty quickly, yet, i seem to struggle more at the plate with him than with my DD players. Do you think some players underachieve, or is this just in my head?

3 If some players underachieve, i think i found an overachiever. The backup SS/2b of the royals (i think his name is soria, but i forget) has a cont/pwr of CD, and no blue qualities that should affect anything (like clutch hitting). Anyway, i seem to get base hits and doubles a lot more easily than with Kemp.

Anyone have similar experiences?

1. Have not seen anything like this so far.

2. It's probably just in you're head. A lot of guys it will feel like you don't hit well with. Give it time.

3. I think you're thinking of Tony Pena Jr. or maybe Esteban German.

Thanks. With your 3rd comment, it's neither of those guys - those guys are starters. The guy im thinking of starts off in the minors

Just checked, I think it's Angel Sanchez.

Yes! Thats him. I treat him like a backup because of his stats, but i usually get at least 3 hits a game with him.

Yeah, it seems like playing manually and simming can produce very different stats. When I play manually, I seem to always get at least 2 hits with guys with D PWR or less by blooping hits over the infield, While guys with C PWR struggle the most. The number of strikeouts and hits can get jacked up, while scores stay the same on each.
