Hello all. It's been a while, but I'll be starting a log w/ the Cubs.

The rosters will be from 1970 w/ a few all-time players mixed in.

After a monumental collapse in 1969, the Cubs are looking for redemption in 1970. The Cubs faithful will yet again hope and pray for a championship. Can they do the impossible.....we shall see.

I used old baseball cards and almanacs online to edit their names, appearance and stats. As for the other skills, I didn't go really go in depth w/ it. That being said, I did try to make them as accurate as possible. It took me a while, but am happy w/ the end result.

I edited the existing players in the game. I didn't go through success mode. It would've took me forever if I went through the success mode.

!!!!!Opening Day!!!!!!


Cubs 1
Brewers 2 F/13

Ferguson Jenkins took the honors as the Cubs Opening Day starter. Skip Lockwood would start for the Brewers. Bottom of the 1st, Santo singled in a run to make the score 1-0. In the top of the 7th, Jenkins gave up a solo homer to Danny Walton to tie the game 1-1. Durocher took out Jenkins in the 9th for Grover Alexander. Alexander would shut them down in order to send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 13th, Danny Walton would strike again as he homered off of Alexander to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. That would be all as Brewers reliever, Ken Sanders shut down the Cubs in the bottom of the 13th to preserve the win.

Ken Holtzman took the hill for his first start of the season. In the top of the 4th, Roberto Pena doubled in 2 runs to put the Brewers ahead. Bottom of the 7th, Glenn Beckert hit a solo homer to cut the Brewers lead in half. An inning later, Ernie Banks tied the game will a solo homer of his own. The game would be still tied at 2-2, and go into extra innings. In the bottom of the 13th, with 1 on and 2 outs, Ernie Banks hit a 2-run walk off home run to win the game. Ernie Banks was quoted saying that he knew it was gone when he it.

Bottom of the 1st, Jim Hickman singled in put the Cubs ahead 1-0. Bill Hands kept the Brewers at bay until the 9th. Top of the 9th, Gormon Thomas took Hands deep to tie the game at 1. The score would be tied and go into extra innings. In the bottom of the 15th, Billy Williams ended the game w/ a 2-run walk off homer. Billy Williams said that it was great to end the game w/ a home run. Durocher told the press that he can't remember a time when a team started the season w/ extra inning games.

W: Alexander (1-1)
L: Bob Locker (0-2)

Cubs (2-1)
Brewers (1-2)

Next up: Houston Astros.

Bottom of the 3rd, Billy Williams doubled in the first run of the game . That same inning, Don Kessinger singled in a run to make the score 2-0. Joe Decker kept the Astro batters at bay until the top of the 9th. Brad Ausmus hit a solo shot to bring the Astros within a run. Soon after, Durocher took out Decker for closer Phil Regan. That worked as Regan shut them down in the 9th to earn the save.

In the top of the 9th, Cesar Cedeno hit a solo homer, off of Milt Pappas,to put the Astros ahead 1-0. That's all Astro pitcher Shane Reynolds needed as he shut down the Cubs batters. Reynolds gave up only 5 hits w/ 12-K's. Pappas said that pitch to Cedeno was a mistake and paid for it.

In the top of the 7th, Joe Morgan hit a solo homer to put the Astros ahead 1-0. The next inning, Brad Ausmus put the Astros ahead by 3 with a 2-run homer of his own. In the bottom of the 9th, Santo finally put the Cubs on the board w/ a 2-run shot to cut the lead to one. That would be all as the Cubs couldn't manage a come from behind win.

W: Larry Dierker (2-0)
L: Jenkins (0-1)

Roberto Rodriguez made a rare start for the Cubs at PNC Park against the Pirates. Rodriguez and Pirates starter Luke Walker would delight the crowd with a pitching duel. After 7 scoreless innings, Rodriguez was relieved by Lee Smith. Smith would shut down the lethal Pirate hitters to send the game into extras. In the bottom of the 14th, Al Oliver singled in a run, off of reliever Jim Colborn to give the Pirates a 1-0 victory. Leo Durocher said that you can't win any game if you don't score any runs.

Bill Hands was on the mound and silenced the Pittsburgh crowd w/ a dominating performance. In the top of the 3rd, Tony Pena put Pittsburgh on the board w/ a home run. That homer would be the only hit allowed by Hands. In the top of the 4th, Hickman singled to tie the game at 1. Top of the 7th, Beckert hit a solo homer to take the lead 2-1. Then Kessinger doubled in 2 runs to make the score 4-1. Finally, Banks ended the Cub's scoring w/ an RBI single. That would be all as Kerry Wood relieved Hands to close out the game and earn the save. Hands said that he felt great today and that one hit was a mistake pitch.

Pittsburgh's ace Doc Ellis was lights out as he shut down the Cubs batters. However, Joe Decker was no match for the Pirates hitters. In the bottom of the 3rd, Honus Wagner and Ralph Kiner both singled in runs to take a 2-0 lead. Bottom of the 6th, Tony Pena singled in a run to make the score 3-0. A few batters later, Dave Parker drilled a 3-run homer to put the Pirates ahead 6-0.. That would be all as Ellis was too much for the Cubs hitters. Ellis gave up 5 hits and struck out 13 batters.

W: Ellis (2-0)
L: Decker (1-1)

Cubs (4-5)
Pirates (5-4)


Next up: @ Phillies.
