Pick 2: Alfonso Soriano LF (C A B B C C 3) i like him as well very strong and well i like him... Pick 3: Felix Hernandez SP1 (C ctrl A Stam) one of the top pitchers in the game i thought he was normally gone by now but i will take him! Pick 4: J.J Hardy SS (D B D C C D 3) Why Why did i pick him honestly i do not know to late now.... Pick 5: Robinson Cano 2B (C B C E D C 3) he has a huge bat if you have ever played with him... pick 6: Prince Fielder 1B (D A F C D C 4) who dosen't love him!!!! i Will finish later... |

I pick a couple of starting pitchers while the good ones are there, then I pick some good fielders, one more starter, a couple of relievers, finish out the fielders, finish out the starters, and then pick the bench. What's with the green smileyface on the topic when I clicked on it? |

I know you may not like taking super-strong players, but I can get Chipper Jones 3rd round, easily. You could have taken a pitcher first-round, like Josh Beckett. And if you do like all-around players, I would have chosen David Wright. He's a lot younger. And I've had more success hitting homers with Soriano than with Pujols/A-Rod, your "super strong" guys... I like the picks of Felix, Fielder, and Cano though. I do like the idea of a thread like this, as I love the Dream Draft aspect too. My final advice: Get a closer in round 7 ![]() P.S. I think others should put their Dream Draft results here, for comparing and stuffs, unless this is leading to a log. ![]() |

I start with a superstar hitter, but by the end of Round 10 I have 4 of my 6 starters if not 5-6 and a closer. You can get some really good hitting bargains. And I ALWAYS focus on youth, |

I make my drafts hard. I do Expansion Mode and select the gray-bar players exclusively. |

I only gave Beckett as an example because you're a Red Sox fan. |

Here is a summary of some of the strategies specified here: You always get the first pick in the draft. For the first pick, try to get an all-rounder, such as Ichiro or Albert Pujols. In general, you don't need to use high picks on pitchers; it is easy to get respectable pitchers in the later rounds. In the early rounds, draft important, up-the-middle positions such as catcher and shortstop. Hanley Ramirez and Jorge Posada are available in the second round (recommendation: Hanley, due to age). In the third round, it is a good idea to try to find a rotation ace; Felix Hernandez is usually available, and if you're lucky, Roy Halladay will be available too. Matt Cain, Roy Oswalt, and Tim Lincecum can be found in the 4th or 5th rounds. You can generally figure the rest of the pitching from there. After the early rounds, things get a bit random, with some players going earlier or later depending on your luck. Make sure you get a catcher if you don't have one already, and don't forget to get a backup (Chris Snyder is a personal favorite of mine, whether backup or starter.) During these rounds, make sure to make use of the SEARCH FUNCTION. The Search function is the quickest and easiest way to find out the best available players at any given round. When searching, make sure you have defined roles in mind, such as a leadoff hitter, power hitter, or defensive fielder. Look for young players, they are much cheaper and more valuable to your team. Once you have your starting lineup and rotation, look for versatile backups that can fill a variety of roles and positions. It is good to have a reliable pinch hitter available. You can wait on drafting relief pitchers until the later rounds, and a good cheap relief pitcher (Fernando Cabrera comes to mind) can fill the closer role admirably. After drafting your major league roster, try to find the best possible young players to fill out your minor league roster. Try not to draft old guys. After you're done drafting, register any created players you want. Make sure you do so AFTER the draft, otherwise you'll lose them during the draft. Also, register IMMEDIATELY after the draft, not after the opening cutscene with the secretary, otherwise the created players will have a much higher salary. When you're finished you can go ahead and start the game, remember to look in the free agents to see if there are any bargains! Hope this helps! Post subject: | Re: Dream Draft. |
Well, I decided to give dream drafting a try with all this talk about it. I used an expansion team in the AL Central. Here are my results: 1: Felix Hernandez SP 2: Hanley Ramirez SS 3: Ted Lilly SP (this was a bad choice, given his salary ![]() 4: Casey Kotchman 1B 5: Fausto Carmona SP 6: Geovany Soto C (edited with ROTY abilities ![]() 7: Tom Gorzelanny SP 8: Hunter Pence RF 9: Jeremy Accardo CL 10: Matt Murton LF 11: Meyers SP (Grey-bar. C control, B stamina and killer breaking balls ![]() 12: Mark DeRosa 2B 13: Kerry Wood CL (edited to a closer, but still another bad choice again because of the salary ![]() 14: Chris Duffy CF (I wanted some speed) 15: Scott Baker SP 16: Willy Aybar 3B 17: Conor Jackson 1B (the DH) 18: Jarrod Saltalamacchia C (Rotation and lineup filled up, going for backups now) 19: Casey Janssen RP 20: Brendan Harris 2B (Utility infielder, though he has G run speed ![]() 21: Ryan Sweeny RF (Utility outfielder) 22: Tyler Johnson RP 23: Joakim Soria RP 24: Carlos Villanueva RP 25: Joe Smith RP (These last 4 finish up the bullpen. Now onto minor-leaguers) 26: DeVore SP (Grey-bar starter with plenty of potential) 27: Angel Sanchez SS (Just in case one of my middle infielders goes down) 28: Billy Butler 1B (Very young and a good hitter) 29: Chiaffredo SP (Another grey-bar) 30: Enochs LF (Emergency outfielder. Only one left at this point with E contact) 32: Berg 1B (Forgot I had Butler and drafted this grey-bar. ![]() 33: Bumatay SP (Grey-bar. Only pitcher left with D control) Went for a young and cheap team (only 3 players over 30). I used the search function for almost all picks after round 6. Please give feedback. I think I'll sim through season mode with this team just to see how it does. EDIT: Total salary is 29660 |

Your top picks could have been a lot better. For instance, you could have waited for the third round to draft Felix Hernandez. Hanley is a good choice, but Lilly? I assume you edited him, but really, #3 probably is way too high if you edited him at all realistically. Why'd you get Kotchman at #4? Especially considering how you got Conor Jackson at #17. You could have gotten Prince Fielder in round 7. Carmona is a poor choice at #5, he's normally available at 6 or 7 and he usually doesn't sim well (ERA's in the 4's). I'd rather have Lincecum, Oswalt, or Cain. Soto at 6 isn't too bad, depending on how you edited him, but I'd like to add that Brian McCann usually is available at 7. Tom Gorzellany seems to be a poor pick at #7, Pirates teammates Zack Duke and Paul Maholm are both better and should be available at about the same time. Hunter Pence is a great choice at #8, and from then on your choices are pretty good. Your bench and minor league are quite solid. Overall, not a bad draft. It's perfect for developing the younger players over the season, and isn't too easy, so it's quite a good draft for the young a cheap team you were looking for. Hope this helped! |
