The San Diego Padres did not play well in 2007 after 3 years of NL West domination. Even with a better then those 3 years they missed the play offs because they lost the Wild Card tie breaker to the Rockies and they finished a disappointing 3rd in the NL West.
Therefore the GM of the Padres has been fired. The Owner had this to say about the firing of the GM
Owner wrote:
The old GM was a great GM for this team but 3rd place just won't do it. We need to make the play offs. The old GM just couldn't get this team to the play offs. I hoping to get a young, smart eager GM to run this team and make us World Champions.

The new GM for the San Diego Padres has just been announced. 28 year old Joseph Michaels will take the reins for this team after working under the old GMs wing for 4 years. He is everything the owner wanted; young, smart with a Master's in buisness, and knows the team and orginization.
MIchaels wrote:
I am honored to take this position and will start making trades and working hard to make this a playoff team as soon as possible.

Peavy wrote:
I'm glad we got a new GM I hope we have a winning season and if we stink I hope he lets me leave or be traded because last year was awful.

a fan wrote:
I loved the old GM. I think the owner totally overreacted to one bad season. Then he goes and fire a great GM and hires some young foolish GM who will probally mess up the whole team.

Yeah that's what I thought. Plus they are not the best team but they have some trade value *hint hint* like Maduxx *hint hint*.

Just days after entering office Joseph Michaels, GM of the Padres, has made a trade. The Padres traded 42 year old starting pitcher Greg Maddux, and 32 year old catcher Michael Barrett to the Cleveland Indians. In return the Padres recieved 32 year old starting pitcher Cliff Lee and 32 year old catcher Victor Martinez. When asked about the trade
Michaels wrote:
I am positive that this trade will work out. Both the players we sent over were talented especially Maddux but in return we go another good, young starting pitcher and a good catcher. Maddux was and is great but he is old and I need to get rid of some salary. About Martinez, he's a much better hitter than Barret and I hope he will evolve into a leader on this team.

Wow! Another trade. Once again Michaels has gone out and made a trade. This one is not as great as the last one but it will give the Padres some much needed speed. The Padres have traded 29 year old reliever Clay Hensley to the Nationals for 23 year old center fielder Lastings Milledge. When asked about the trade
Michaels wrote:
This trade was absolutely nessecary. One thing that we lack is speed. Milledge gives us that speed. I really wanted to keep Hensley but He was the only player that the Nationals were going to take except for my much needed Franchise players. Go to do what you got to do right?

Starting Pitcher Randy Wolf and Right Fielder Brian Giles have been traded away. Both of these players are of good caliber. They have been sent to the Giants for the toughest man in the MLB and one of Joseph Michaels personal favorites Center Fielder......Aaron Rowand. Rowand is getting up there in years but is fast and can hit well.

First baseman Adrian Gonzalez and starting pitcher Mark Prior were part of another trade that the new GM of the Padres has made. Both of those players will head out to Philadelphia in return for young superstar first baseman Ryan Howard who is another one of Michaels favorites.

Aaron Rowand? He's way overpaid. Why couldn't you have traded for B.J. Upton, who is younger, just as good, and 11000 points cheaper?

I know I don't want an unrealistic team or trades it can't be that easy and I don't want it to be. But if I wanted to unrealistic and amazing I would have got Granderson or Upton you right.

I still don't understand why you needed a centerfielder when you already have Jim Edmonds. Maybe Hunter Pence or Andre Ethier? Even on a realistic level, this would be a bad trade in my opinion. Giles for Rowand is about realistic... but Randy Wolf too? Giving up a solid starter for an old, overpaid center fielder when you already have one? Doesn't make sense to me.
