I'm going to try my best to log my season from time to time. I'm actually playing these games.

So here it goes:

A's 1 Indians 0


The A's made it 5 straight as Jim Loland (2-0) pitched a 5-hit complete gem. He shutout the Indians on 5 hits w/ an amazing 21 K's. The A's powerful lineup could only muster 1 run on 7 hits. Reggie Jackson provided the lone run as he doubled to center field to score Jimmie Foxx from 1st base. Manager John McNamara said that this was great for his team, because it was a close one. Also he said that Loland had great stuff tonight and simply amazed him w/ his pitching performance.

Pat Dobson took the hill for the final game of a 3 game series against the Cleveland Indians. It didn't start to well for Dobson as he gave up a solo homer to Willie Horton in the top of the 1st. (Horton would go 4-4 as the lone bright spot for Cleveland.) Sam McDowell, pitching for the Indians, thought he was going to be on cruise control as he took care of the A's in succession in the 1st. What Sam didn't know was that Mark McGwire had different plans. McGwire took McDowell out for a 2-run homer to take the lead 2-1. The A's never looked back after that. In the bottom of the 3rd, the A's went off for 6 runs to make 8-1. Dick Green doubled to bring in a run, while McGwire and Jackson each hit a 2-run homer. Mickey Cochrane also hit a solo homer to end the scoring of that frame. Bob Feller came in to relieve to relieve McDowell and did a pretty good job. Feller kept the A's bats quiet until the bottom of the 8th when Cochrane hit his 2nd solo homer of the night to make the score 9-1. In the top of the 9th the Indians drove in 2 runs to make the game a little interesting. That knocked Dobson out of the game so McNamara gave the ball to Jim Hunter. Hunter struck out the only batter he faced to end the game. McNamara said after the game that "He was glad to see the bats come alive and hopes that'll continue."

cooldude Or, should I say, DeathJohnson, it's his log, he can do whatever he wants. But yeah, add in a few losses to make it interesting.

How do you platoon Henderson and Jackson? And Foxx and McGuire?

Alright. I'm going to start over. I'm going to simulate and play some. Bear w/ me as I have never logged before. With that being said let the season begin!

The A's season is off to slow start. Jim Roland pitched a scoreless game up until the 6th inning. That's when the Red Sox bats decided to open up. Jim Rice drew first blood as he doubled to score a run. Then two batters later, Dwight Evans hit a 2-run shot to make it 3-0. To make matters worse, Tony Conigliaro hit a solo homer to make the score 4-0. The top of the 7th, saw Carl Yastrzemski put the game out of reach with a 2-run homer. Mike Nagy, Dick Radatz, and Sparky Lyle held the A's to 3 hits. MGR McNamara said that this wasn't the start he was looking for.

Lefty Grove took the hill for the 2nd game of the season. In the bottom of the 1st, Mark McGwire doubled in the first run of the season. Dwight Evans then tied the score at 1 a piece with a solo homer in the 6th. Chief Bender took over in the 7th and allowed no hits for the rest of the game. The game would go into extra innings with score tied at 1. With a runner at second and two outs, in the bottom of the 10th, Jackson doubled to centerfield to win the ballgame.

John Odom took to the hill for his 1st start of the season. Cleveland's pitcher Bill Hand kept the A's heavy hitters silent until Mickey Cochrane hit his 1st homer of the season, in the bottom of the 8th, to make the score 1-0. Fred Lasher relieved Hand shortly after that. It didn't take long for Cleveland to answer though. In the top of the 9th, Roy Foster took Odom out of the game as he tied the game w/ a solo shot. Chief Bender then took over and dominated the Indians after that. Bottom of the ninth, the A's couldn't manage a run so the game went into extra innings. Lasher and Bender kept the game tied at 1 until the bottom of the 12th. Reggie Jackson lived up to his nickname "Mr.October" as he took Lasher deep for a walk off home run to win the game 2-1. Reggie said after the game it was just a matter of time when he was going to hit his first homer of the season.

Jim Roland was in cruise control as he got alot of help from the A's bats. Campaneris led off the game w/ a double. Then Green hit a single to bring in Campaneris for the first run of the game. That same inning, Foxx hit a 2-run homer to make the 3-0. In the bottom of the 4th, Henderson singled in a run to take the lead by 4. Cochrane then hit a bases loaded double to score 2 more runs. Finally Campaneris hit a single to bring in the A's final run to make the score 7-0. Roland took care of the rest as he pitched a 4-hit shutout along w/ 15 K's.

The A's hometown crowd was treated to a very long, but exciting, extra inning game today. The game took 20 innings and the official time was 5:59. Lefty Grove and Sam McDowell each pitched very well w/out giving up a run. Grove went 11 innings while Sam McDowell went 7. Vida Blue took over for Grove and pitched really well up until the top of the 20th. McDowell's replacement Fred Lasher pitched really well in relief for 9 innings also w/ out giving a run. Bob Feller came in at the bottom of the 17th to pitch til the end of the game. The top of the 20th is where the Indians wanted to end the game and they did. Ed Leon singled to right to bring in the first run to break the long scoreless tie. The Indians brought in Vada Pinson to pinch run for Leon. Then Roy Foster double to score Pinson to stretch the lead to 2. That's all Bob Feller needed as he shut down the A's in the bottom of the 20th to end the game. The A's players were too tired to get a comment from them.

Dennis Eckersley was simply dominating as he threw a 17-K, 3-hit complete game shutout. The game's only run was by a Baker single in the top of the 4th. That's all the run support Eckersley needed.

Dobson throws 15 K perfect game

On April 9th, will go down as another historical moment for A's history. Pat Dobson threw the 2nd perfect game of the 2008 season, joining Dave McNally of the Orioles. Blue Jay hitters just didn't have an answer for him. Dobson also struck out 15 batters. Henderson singled in a run to take a 1-0 lead. An insurance run (like he needed it) was added in the top of the 9th when McGwire hit a solo shot. McNamara or Dobson didn't say much afterwards, because they were both speechless.
