I always save right before the draft, then keep reloading until I get somebody who's UBER good. The first year is good for fielders, but once you start winning it will become impossible to draft good fielders (they've already been taken), so I go for pitchers after the first year. I always try to find a "super rookie", a pitcher whose breaking ball rating is off the charts. You'll get a pitcher with 90 mph, G control, D stamina, and spectacular breaking balls, and all you have to do is train their control and you'll have a great closer.

I always buy or trade for fielders in F/A. Their are a lot of quality ones available.

So during the June draft I ALWAYS go for Pitchers. I usually get two amazing ones.

The less potential the player has = the better he will be RIGHT NOW

However, he will develop stats slower than a 5 star potential guy.

Look for BB off the charts and Top Speed of the charts.

This is one of the guys I got:

Alabaster Saw
22 R/R Sidearm
89 C(138) B(111)
3-SLD, 4-CB, 4-Fork, 3-KN

Stud.

So I guess in later years it would probably better to go for low potential players, but in the first few years you should get some potential.

Different than the title shows, I know how to draft of course (season mode is my main skill) But when your drafting, what do you look for. (Depending on the situation I know) Do you pick position players, or pitchers? When it says things about the players, which "thing" do you pick? examples: -Played high school hockey -Ran track -Not outstanding in any particular area -Highly skilled, he will help out a team a lot. I my opinion, I usually pick pitchers, they have a higher skill set to start out, and can help a team instantly, or in 1 or 2 years. When selecting a "fact" about the player, I look at only one choice "Highly skilled, he will help out a team a lot"...this has yet to fail for me, as the players who have this, seem to have a higher skill set. It also depends on age, if there is a 19 year old pitcher who looks decent, or a 24 year old pitcher who is a little better than the 19 year old, I'm going to pick the 19 year old, as I would have 5 years to make him what I want him to be. Just curious how others draft, or if some don't even care about the draft. Comments are welcome.

Yeah, i usually take pitchers. I don't really take the side notes seriously, though. I mean, there can be a guy that is an obvious flamethrower, and is may say "Not great in any one area."

In my Rays season mode, I got two fielders. I got a pretty decent catcher that I'll probably be using next season, and a sucky second-baseman that's a waste and probably wouldn't ever be ready to play in the majors.

Usually I pick a Pitcher first, but sometimes I pick a fielder. But I always make sure to get a pitcher

When I draft I usually look at pitchers first because I usually have to pick around last because I do expansion mode all the time and I have to pick last because of arrange teams Usually I end up with 2 pitchers, or 1 pitcher and one not too great fielder I always look at potential and age because a 26 year old, no matter how good they are, are not gonna have good potention while a young 10 or 20 year with 4 or 5 potential points is gonna help me for awhile I always like to look at 2B and SS for position players because usually they end up with D, E, D, D, D which are the best fielders probably and sometimes they have gd bunt and gold glover 1st basemen and 3rd basemen usually end up D power, C power, 3 trj kind of players with a rare E contact and B power player So infield is where I look for fielders

I have been working on trying to make the Pirates better in one of the season teams I am working on. In my first draft I picked a pitcher and a catcher (don't ask me why I strayed away from the pitchers only part) I ended up getting quite the good pitcher and a decent catcher (good def. skills, weak batter). Ishida 19 years old skill D ctrl D stam pitches 2 snk 4 v-sld Now this might sound less than decent, but he is a player I can work with to make him a perfect closer, or late reliever. The draft is an interesting thing about power pros, scouting would be nice, but it is also fun to see how you did in the draft.

I really wish that the draft meant something If 2009 comes out, it's supposed to have scouting (I think) AND 20 years, the draft could mean something if this game comes out and maybe there will be good players(fielders)

The funny thing is, he was a free agent when i got him. His control is now a C.

Yeah the computer pretty much never drafts those guys. I get mine in the first round. And also (I know this has probably been said many times but anyway), you should always look in the free agents list after the draft, there is usually somebody at least decently useful there.

I always select pitchers, never seen a fielder that was worth taking. I don't pay attention to the comments and pick based on age (19yr instead of a 27yr) and their chart. Usually like to get people whose breaking pitch is max over someone who is all "heat."

The age is perfect, the amount of pitches is nice, and the control/stamina are higher than most regular pitchers on most teams.

Yeah, not only should drafting=potential in early years. But also when trading for players. In one of my season modes, non of my players are older than 31. (no retiring players) So get a player or two, then get him into spring training and practice, and by year 5-6. Your player should be decent or better.
