I'm going to try to do another log since I got bored with my GreenApple one, (they didn't make the playoffs, btw, Stamotopolis got 38/38 SV) and it's going to be about one of my favorite franchises, the Vancouver Mendenhals. I'm also writing a story at the same time, so that will also be incorporated into the log. I won't play every game, though, giving some Monthly updates, and also playing some key games. Lineups and stuff coming soon. |

Here's part of Chapter 1: ---------------------------- Chapter 1 The Start Of A Dynasty? The day started as it would any other day in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on December 30, 2007. There were people going the westbound and eastbound lanes of Highway 1, getting to work. There were also people in the local bars, getting a few drinks, and living life the way, to them, it should be. This day was no ordinary day, though. At that same time, ESPN reported that Vancouver was looking to make its own baseball team, and play in a local park near the city. They also reported Salt Lake City would also be in contention for an MLB franchise, along with Vancouver. It was up to MLB to decide whom to give the franchise to. At the annual MLB Winter Meetings in Las Vegas, Nevada, the owners were asked to vote on who they thought deserved an MLB franchise. At the time, the Toronto Blue Jays were the only Canadian team in MLB, and owners wanted a second team to be placed there. There were some advantages for Salt Lake City, also. It could be part of the “Middle West expansion” MLB was planning to do. After going over city maps and expenses from the city mayors, they were ready to vote. The result was placed in an envelope and was promptly mailed to Vancouver, Oklahoma City, and ESPN. The results weren’t made public until the following week. The vote ended up being tied, 15-15. Since there was no rule in MLB stating what should happen in the case of a tie in owner voting, MLB decided to give the expansion go-ahead to both cities. Fans in Vancouver were ecstatic about the decision, along with Salt Lake City residents. Immediately, average Joes from all over the countries flocked to either Vancouver or Salt Lake City, in hopes of making a team. People came in one by one, trying to look for a position on the Vancouver team, later called the Mendenhals. What’s a mendenhal, you say? We’ll tell you later. There were open tryouts 24/7 at the park where they played, later to be called “The Mark of the Mendenhals. When they got in, the Commissioner of Baseball, Bud Selig, said that there would be a draft, but not any draft, though. It was set to take place on March 31st, 2008, and it included every MLB Player, including the people in AAA. Fans and players were shocked at this news. They would have to give up their former teams, hopefully, and go to a new team with totally different teammates than before. MLB Selected many scrub players to be the basis for both the Mendenhals and the Salt Lake City team, the SaltPepper. The draft went very well, as the Mendenhals selected many good players. |

He was a shortstop who had lots of contact and power to be a game-shifter in the mind of the Owner, Becky Fox. They also picked up many well-known players, such as Justin Verlander, Hiroki Kuroda, and Joel Zumaya. A surprise pick for them was Jeopardy! Host Alex Trebek, who wanted to take up baseball as his “Summer Job” when not hosting the well-known game show. He was a walk-on to the club, along with teacher Angela Zantjer-Lin and Keith Koogro. This team might be destined for a championship, but there’s two things missing…a GM and a Skipper! COMING UP IN CHAPTER 2! |

How do you like this so far? Comments are appreciated, as well as any tips on what I should do. Also, the next chapter is ready! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 2 THE SEARCH FOR MANAGEMENT After the Dream Draft, as it was called later on, the Mendenhals had no GM, or for that matter no Manager at all. Owner Becky Fox wanted to change all that. On April 1st, 2008, she hired McCoy Benson to be the GM, while hiring as manager Kazuhito Clapton, both for a 10 year contract. The Mendenhals still needed a lot of help on the basepaths, though, as they opened practice up to the players. They then hired Ricky Henderson, Bob Davis, and Frank Glover, as running, 1st base, and 3rd base coaches, respectively. Henderson was well-known in the big leagues with the most career stolen bases. Davis and Glover had no experience in the majors, but Clapton and Fox said that “they will be great.” It was soon approaching opening day, and they looked poised to win a World Series Championship. |

Here's the opening day highlights! Plus the highlights for the rest of April (coming soon) Roster card: Attachment: Roster Sheet-Mendenhals vs. Dodgers.JPG [ 40.1 KiB | Viewed 6392 times ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chapter 3 Opening day/April The first opening day for the Mendenhals will always be remembered by when Whoopi Goldberg sang the national anthem in Dodger Stadium, and this season was underway as the Dodgers took the field against the Mendenhals. It was a rocky start for the Mens, however, as Starting Pitcher Justin Verlander gave up an RBI Double to LA’s Miguel Tejada to make it 1-0. Both Verlander and opposing pitcher Josh Beckett exited in the 7th and 8th inning, respectively. Taylor Buchholz came in relief of Beckett and proceeded to give up a 2-RBI single to Chris Snelling, followed by a 2-run single by Carlos Gomez to make it 4-1. It was 5-1 going into the 9th when Ozzi Osbourne came in in a non-save situation, and a tag-out by In Sain sealed the victory for the Mendenhals, 5-1. The winning pitcher was Joel Zumaya, while the losing pitcher was Josh Beckett. The player of the game was Chris Snelling, for driving in the 1st run in Mendenhals history. |
