To me, I always love to have a great pitching team and an average to good lineup.
I had a good lineup and strong pitching and I won 106 games during the regular season but I like my team to be based mainly on pitching, defense and speed, kind of like the Rays. What do you base your team around and season. Don't forget to answer the poll either :D

To me, balance is key to winning games.

Boiled down, that means a few different things.

1) Take advantage of the roster. Unlike in real life, MLB PP allows you to swap players between AAA and the big league club an unlimited amount of times without any sort of penalty whatsoever. Use this to your advantage and fill out your roster to the maximum (44 players). If you're playing every game (or almost every game) over an entire season, guys are going to get hot, cold, and/or injured. Having the maximum number of players helps you play more consistently over an entire season.

2) Have players who can fill important roles and/or a variety of roles. Utility players, for example, can be extremely valuable. I always keep an extra catcher, 1st baseman, utility infielder (who can play every infield position), and utility outfielder (who can play all three outfield positions) on my 25 man roster. Have a mix of power hitters, good fielders, and contact hitters. Lefthanded batters, switch hitters, and right handed batters who excel at hitting left handed pitching are especially useful. Essentially, have as much depth as possible on your roster and try to plan in advance for player A getting injured by keeping player B on your roster. Also, as others have mentioned, pitching is extremely valuable and you can almost never have enough.

3) Have a strategy for winning. This means scouting the starting pitcher (and key players) on opposing teams by looking at his strengths/weaknesses in the "player list" before each game. Is he a lefthanded pitcher who pitches poorly against righties? Are you playing a team full of speedsters? Are they slap hitters or power hitters? What ballpark are you playing at (i.e., is this a bandbox or a pitcher's park)? These are all factors that can contribute to winning and losing games.

1) starting pitching...remember pitching is the first line of defense.
2) Good defense............ you must back up your pitching
3) good solid hitting...........Contact hitting beats home runs. You don't need the long ball if you didn't get behind in the first place.
4) Good speed, Stealing bases set up for offence, turn singles into doubles, doubles and triples............etc

I don't like winning. I like to make bud silig consider putting in a mercy rule for my foes.

If there is a Mercy rule, I just need 3 pitchers as they will only pitch 1 inning each. :) Defense doesnt matter if you simulate.

Starting pitching. That's why it's difficult to be successful with an expansion team generated by the CPU. Small ball works good too.

at least 3 good starters, good long relievers, and speed.
defense would be next.

Defense all the way!!!
- No matter how good your pitching is, they'll always give up hits.
- If you have a good center fielder and shortstop, you almost never give up hits up the middle.
- Baserunning will get you nowhere if you can't hit the ball.
- Hitting won't do anything if you give up too many runs.
- All around would be okay, everyone had at least a C all around.

Personally, I say speed. It's the only category up there that is used on fielding and hitting. Slightly below average fielders and hitters but top-class speed is a pretty good team.

No way, man. You can steal 40 bases with a guy with E speed. I think hitting is the most important, because if you play on a high difficulty level, homers can push you over the top.

I disagree. A team with good speed can steal a base almost evry time and it is a huge advantage in the field.

Exactly. It makes the play easier for him and makes his low E RES not as important. Of course, this is just my opinion; you're entitled to yours.

And if your fielding is maxed it doesn't really matter what your E-Res is because you'll make an error so rarely.
