I just finished my Ice Wolves season, and we had an interesting discussion on the forum about how awards are determined. I’m going to do some detective work...

MVP and Hank Aaron- My Success 3B House won both in the AL, and Pujols won both in the NL. Both guys finished #1 in batting average and OPS, although Pujols did NOT have the most RBIs or HR.

Cy Young- Ice Wolves’ Duff (Graybar) and Pirates’ Zach Duke won. Duke won the ERA title and went 11-6. Duff was second in ERA after Aaron Harang in the AL, but he went 16-2 to Harang’s 10-4. Harang edged him out in innings pitched as well (193.0 to 180.1) and strikeouts (208 to 78.)

Relief pitcher- K-Rod gets it with a whopping 4.82 ERA (33/33 on saves), although his peripherals are quite good. Todd Jones (3.28, 36/37), Brian Fuentes (3.27, 35/38), and JJ Putz (3.88, 34/35) beat him in both categories. Ryan Dempster won among an awful crop in the NL. He had a 5.65 ERA, but led the league with 31 saves (albeit in 37 opportunities).

ROY- My success SS easily won this won with a .393 BA and 1.300 OPS. The NL’s ROY was a graybar named Bailey, who had a 5.66 ERA in 41.1 innings. Quite the stark contrast.

Gold Gloves (AL):

P- Nate Robertson: had a perfect fielding percentage and a high Range factor (2.50) in 222.2 innings.

C- Jason LaRue- .998 fielding percentage led league, second highest range factor (7.56), and just 1 passed ball.

1B- Tony Clark: Third highest range factor (8.77) to go along with a .996 fielding percentage (second after Adrian Gonzalez).

2B- Juan Uribe- .994 fielding percentage led league and had a 4.22 range factor (4th).

3B- Eric Chavez- .986 fielding percentage was second best to Miguel Cabrera, who also had a much higher range factor (4.35 to 2.19). They both have star, so idk.

SS- My Success SS led the League with a .995 fielding percentage and absurd 7.43 RF.

OF- My Success CF Tena had a .994 fielding percentage which led the league, and LF Alvarado had a .993% despite his poor range. Aubrey Huff (lmao) won the other spot with a .978 fielding percentage, despite my RF having a better .993%.

Silver Sluggers (AL):

DH- Garrett Atkins of the Yankees won with a .860 OPS over David Ortiz with a .905 OPS. Atkins had the better BA (.328 to .288) and OBP (.400 to .365), so perhaps that played a role. Ortiz had more RBIs, runs, and homers.

1B- My 1B Arellano hit .312 with a leagues leading .987 OPS for 1B. He smashed 56 homers and slugged .670.

2B- Placido Polanco won with a .319 BA (2nd after Mark Ellis) and .861 OPS, which led second basemen.

3B- My Success 3B House had a .425 BA and 1.470 OPS, so yeah.

SS- My Success SS Baker had a .393 BA and 1.300 OPS, so yeah.

OF- Andruw Jones hit .340 with a 1.010 OPS, 39 homers, and 119 RBIs, all leading outfielders. Grady Sizemore finished second in OPS (.923) to go along with his .289 BA. And finally... my CF Tena won with a .337 BA and .784 OPS, good for 17th among qualifiers. He did lead the league with 69 SBs, so perhaps that had something to do with it?

I wonder if team performance might have something to do with it, since that sometimes affects real-life voting too
