October 8th, 2016 The Rays have advanced the the ALCS to face off against their division rivals, the New York Yankees. Kershaw had his best game of the season with 11 K through 7 IP only allowing 4 hits. Jaramillo came in to clean up the rest of the Angels. The Rays will restart their rotation to have Kazmir start Game 1 again.

October 20th, 2016 The Rays are now advancing to the World Series after beating the Yankees via a walk-off hit from Crawford. The Rays applied pressure in a lot of innings but were only able to manufacture 2 runs. Kazmir will start Game 1 of the WS against the Dodgers.

October 30th, 2016 The Rays have forced a game 7 in LA after winning game 6, 3-1. The Dodgers took the lead early but not for long as the Rays tied it up in the half inning after. It will be a game time decision for who starts Game 7 for 'days rest' logistics. We expect it to be either Scherzer or Kershaw.

October 31st, 2016 Kershaw pitched his heart out in route to a World Series win against the Dodgers. Most of the trouble the Rays faced was in the 8th and 9th innings, but both Kershaw and Miller were able to hold down the fort. off-season posts will follow

November 1st, 2016 No Ray player has retired so the same roster will carry over into contract negotiations... For the league awards, the Rays had 14 (!) winners: Stolen Base title - Carl Crawford (5th) ERA title - Max Scherzer (2nd) Wins title - Max Scherzer Saves title - Andrew Miller AL MVP - Carl Crawford AL Cy Young award - Max Scherzer Mariano Rivera award - Andrew Miller Gold Glove (OF) - Carl Crawford (3rd) Gold Glove (SS) - Tyler Gemoll (2nd) Gold Glove (C) - Lance Sandberg Silver Slugger (OF) - Carl Crawford (5th) Silver Slugger (SS) - Tyler Gemoll Silver Slugger (2B) - Robinson Cano (4th) .... 1st with the Yankees, 2nd with the Rangers, 3rd and 4th with the Rays World Series MVP - Robert Conti . . The Rays have a few big name players that are soon to be FA: Jose Terrero Alex Gordon Robinson Cano Johnny Cueto Edinson Volquez . . . And there has also been a mystery donation to the Rays' payroll cap as it seems there is an interested suitor for the team...(??????) reason was not disclosed to the media Rays' payroll cap increase: 96500 --> 102500 (+1500 from inflation, +2000 from team performance, +2500 from mystery benefactor)

January 1st, 2017 As year 10 starts, the Rays lost and gained a bunch of players over the winter meetings. They managed to resign only 1 player: Jose Terrero - 2y/3000 . . They lost several players to FA: Johnny Cueto - 4y/12000 to the Cardinals Jason Giambi - 1y/10000 to the Royals Alex Gordon - 5y/9250 to the Royals (back with the team he started with) Robinson Cano - 5y/16500 to the Padres Edinson Volquez - 5y/6000 to the Padres . It seems that the Cardinals are looking to take advantage of their playoff window, hence dropping a lot of money on Cueto. The Padres also look to make a deep postseason run by offering Cano a large contract to accommodate with Melvin Upton Jr.'s final year of his 5y/24000 mega deal; it also seems that Volquez wanted to make the most of out his career before his decline. . . . With that said the Rays signed 3 FA of their own: Justin Verlander - 5y/5000 Jeff Day - 4y/4000 ,,,,, after year 2 it becomes a player option, combined for 2y/10000 (along with a full-no trade clause for all 4 years) Connor Jackson - 1y/700 (forgot to take contract picture) . . Verlander's deal may seem a little high for the ERA that he's posted in the past 2 seasons, but he can eat innings while producing high K numbers. This contract will end with him at age 38 which most likely means the Rays might have to eat some money if he declines quickly. And Jeff Day returns to the Rays after being traded for Danys Baez and Edinson Volquez back in 2010. The deals definitely shows that Day has control over his future.

April 1st, 2017 The Rays have conducted more transactions. They added 3 more players from the FA pool, young talent along with a former Ray for their bullpen: Brandon League - 1y/1550 Martin Bourgeois - 1y/480 Tetsu Uchiyama - 1y/800 (the 2 graybars only have 1 year MLB exp, so their contracts will settle around 500/600 next offseason if no more exp is gained) . . They also completed 1 trade with the Padres: Jesus Lizarraga for Yamato Koga A lot of reunions this off-season and 1 more was just added. Koga looks to build off a solid year with 22 HR and a .267 BA in a pitcher friendly park. Padres are building up a serious team but they had no solid option behind the plate. Lizarraga was unfortunately stuck behind Sandberg and now gets the chance to once again be a starter. Mathis should be a solid backup to Sandberg. And lastly, the Rays had to buyout the remainder of AJ Burnett's contract at 741 in order to remain under the salary cap. . . And the finalized opening day roster has been released. Kazmir looks to start his 12th consecutive opening day (2006-2017) which ties him for 4th on the all time list; 8th if the ties ahead of him counted as their own (Tom Seaver at 16 is the most all time). . . . Rays' FA acquisitions used/allowed - 3/3 (maxed out for 2017) Rays' off season trades used/allowed - 1/1 (maxed out for 2017) Rays' payroll/cap - 102190/102500

Getting Koga and Day back, niccccceeeee Hmm, but I only have one agent spot available. I’ll take Day, since he’s got that interesting contract option. |
