April 2nd, 2014 The Rays' opened up the season with a win over the Yankees, 6-4. Glaus made a splash in his Rays debut smacking a 2-run HR along with an outstanding 4-4 performance at the plate. Totten did great as well, going 3-4 in his debut. Kazmir is back on track being stellar, and Miller's struggles continue.

April 16th, 2014 The Rays pounded the A's for a 7-2 victory. Cain went 7 strong only giving up 2 runs. Pena did most of the damage and put the cherry on top in the 7th inning with a 2-run HR. Pena and Glaus have been excellent thus far, even with their age on the wrong side of 35 (bc when MLBPP makes players lose skill, i'd normally say 30 here but game mechanics). After the game Bourn was placed on the 10-day IL with a sore quad. He is expected to be back early May. Patterson will take his roster spot for now.

April 29th, 2014 The Rays squeaked a win by the Red Sox, 2-1. The Sox put a run on the board in the 1st, Glaus tied it with a solo HR in the 2nd; then followed by a Crawford RBI which happened to be the last run of the game. Both starters were excellent - unfortunately for Saunders, he was given the loss with a CG.

A few days after the prior game, Cust was placed on the 10-day IL with a jammed finger. He is expected to miss 2-3 weeks. Bourn was then activated from the IL (they both did a swap). May 14th, 2014 Shields improves to 4-1 after a win over the Tigers. The Rays had their offense humming in the first 3 innings, scoring 1 run each. Miggy roped a line drive HR in the top of the 9th inning off of Guerrier to give the Tigers their only run of the game. After the game, Guerrier was removed from the closer role; effectively putting Affeldt as the 9th inning man. It seems that they switched roles. Another move was made as well, Jonah Vermilyea was sent down to AAA with a 8.71 ERA. Zenzo Kawamura (2nd round pick in 2011) will make his MLB roster debut being the long reliever for the team.

May 29th, 2014 The Rays lost to the Rangers, 4-1. After they extended their run total to 4, the Rays managed to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 5th. McCarthy struck out the next 3 batters ending the threat. Kawamura made his MLB debut and performed well with 4.1 IP and 0 ER.

June 10th, 2014 The Rays had the 4th overall pick in the 2014 draft. Their 2 selections were: 1st round - Robert Conti (SS) from college 2nd round - Sal Venafro (SP/RP) from college 3rd round - Francisco Jaramillo (SP) from the International League . . Even though Conti is a SS, it wouldn't be surprising to see this develop into an A-Rod - Jeter scenario where Conti moves over to the hot corner. Because of his college years, he is much more developed than most of the draft pool, we might end up seeing him in the next year or so break the Rays' roster. As for John Roney and Yamato Koga either or/both might become a nice trade piece later on since there are 3 (three) 3B in AAA. Jaramillo should be able to make a rotation spot if developed correctly; on the older side (27 y/o), but his past couple of years out of the states made him have Ray scouts eye him. . Because Jaramillo was registered in the game his entry salary is higher than it should be (since it's calculated off of his skill). He's at 1780 but I'm going to subtract 1400 from the current payroll to adjust it to what it would actually be if he was drafted. . . I think I'm going to alter one of my rules, by allowing myself to acquire 3 players from the FA pool (which would be an increase of only 1). With that said, the Rays have acquired a player from the FA pool: Louis Chiasson, the Rays might be able to use him for relief if they lose a few players. . . . Rays FA acquisitions used/allowed - 2/3 Rays payroll/cap - 89370(adjusted value 87970)/89000

June 13th, 2014 Volquez was a couple of outs away from a SO CG but unfortunately surrendered 1 run which pulled him from the game. Before the 9th, he looked dominate: 5 hits allowed through 8 IP (also had a No-hitter through 4 IP). The Rays' offense provided a nice cushion though, scoring 4 runs in the first 2 innings. And Miller was recently promoted to the team's setup role as he's been great this season with a 3.30 ERA.

Nice to see Rush starting in SF, even if he’s slumping at the plate. I assume Riggans has good or great catcher, since your starters seem to hit high pitch counts consistently. |

June 27th, 2014 The Rays had 16 base hits in a win against the Braves, 6-1. Kazmir was great, he produced more contact outs than usual. Gemoll and Lizarraga did most of the scoring (3 and 2 RBI respectably). With the Rays back on top of the division, it wouldn't be surprising to see them become trade deadline buyers again.

July 1st, 2014 The Rays have made their first trade of the season, in which they are receiving: Robinson Cano - 3y/440 and the Rangers receiving Jonah Vermilyea 1y/900 John Roney 1y/ 450 Troy Glaus 2y/4010 . Cano has a 3y/440 contract and may hold the 2B position for that duration. The Rangers (37-44, last place in AL West) now have Vermilyea and Roney who are prospects with high ceilings along with Glaus - he still has an extra year of control and has been excellent this season with a .271 BA and 18 HR. . The Rays should be sliding Terrero over to 3B after this move. . . . Rays trades used/allowed - 1/3 Rays payroll/cap - 84450(adjusted value 83050)/89000

July 3rd, 2014 The Rays have completed another trade, this time with the Athletics (40-42). The A's are getting: David Price - 2y/3000 and the Rays are getting Clayton Kershaw - 1y/2720 Nyjer Morgan - 2y/440 Omar Quintanilla - 1y/450 . With Kershaw being a looming FA, the A's would rather have another year of control with an established pitcher thus far (Price). Morgan and Quintanilla were acquired for depth in case the Rays have a trade that sends a few players away. Kershaw should be placed in the top half of the rotation. . . . Rays trades used/allowed - 2/3 Rays payroll/cap - 85060(adjusted value 83660)/89000

July 11th, 2014 The Rays almost blew the game against the Red Sox, but an 8th inning solo HR from Cust had them regain the lead. The Rays seem to have been riding a more consistent lineup as of late. With the ASG approaching, they will have a much deserved break.

July 14th, 2014 The Rays have acquired a player from the FA pool. Kelvin Barzilla originally drafted 3 years ago will stay in AAA for now. Gifted with a high contact rate, if the Rays can hone that ability he should be a good player. . . . Rays FA acquisitions used/allowed - 3/3 (maxed out for 2014) Rays payroll/cap - 85510(adjusted value 84110)/89000
