The regular season has concluded, the Rays have posted their postseason configuration with their batting order and pitching roles.
If the Rays get to the World Series - when the NL is the home team - we've been told that Garko and Votto will switch off 1st base duties based on match-ups (Votto has Vs Lefty 2).

.
I posted the stats for the players from this season.

The Rays managed to keep their playoff run alive by beating the Tigers at Comerica Park. The Rays had the lead for the whole game but things got close in the 6th inning when Price was pulled after giving up 1 run. They now force a game 5 in Detroit, Kazmir looks to take the bump.

Why does Shawn Riggans always hit an insane amount of triples

The Rays have now advanced to the ALCS to face off against the Yankees. The Rays' bullpen held the Tigers in check; only issue was that Miller let 2 runners get on with the go-ahead run at the plate. Fortunately, Miller was able to remain unscathed. The Rays have no yet decided if they will have Lohse or Shields start game 1.

The Rays blew the game in the 9th inning; which subsequently allowed the Yankees to force a game 7. Miller was called upon to take the game into extras but the Yankees had other plans by scoring 4 runs off of him. The Rays had some life scoring 2 off of Mariano; with 2 runners on and 2 outs, Votto struck out ending the game. Shields will take the mound for the final game of the ALCS. The winner will face off against the Rockies in the World Series.

The Rays had a magical comeback to advance to the World Series. Ortiz's solo home run seemed like the dagger in the 6th inning, but after trailing for 5 innings, Upton started the rally with a lead off double. The rest was history as the Yankees' pitching staff couldn't stop the bleeding in time. Kazmir will be the Rays' starter for game 1.

After going up 3-2 in the World Series the Rays took game 6 and have won their 3rd WS title in the past 4 years. Zobrist's monster solo shot (472 feet) tied the game in the 8th inning when it looked like the Rockies were going to force a game 7. Ex-Rays' (lol x-ray) reliever, as of a few months ago, Matt Thornton was the pitcher that came up with the loss as the Rays plated 2 runs in the 10th inning sealing the deal. The Rays' bullpen was water tight in this game allowing 0 runs in 4 2/3 innings.

The next post will be any retirees and awards

No player from the Rays has announced their retirement, so the roster remains the same for now. But the Rays do have 12 award winners from this season:

ERA title - Scott Kazmir (3rd)
Wins title - Scott Kazmir (2nd)
Strikeout title - Scott Kazmir

Gold Glove (OF) - Melvin Upton Jr.
Silver Slugger (OF) - Carl Crawford
Silver Slugger (2B) - Akinori Iwamura

The Rays have an some interesting events during the winter meetings. They did not sign any free agents, but also lost 3 starting players from last season. Iwamura, Gomes, and Garko.

-Akinori Iwamura signed with the Tigers for 1y/11000
-Jonny Gomes signed with the Rockies for 3y/13000
-Ryan Garko signed with the Cubs for 2y/15000

(all of these players were traded for 1 dollar or w/e the currency is in the game)

The Tigers and Rockies both faced the Rays this past postseason, so their newcomers should help them for another playoff push. The Cubs had no first baseman on their active roster so the Garko signing should help boost their 84-78 record (from last year) as they missed the playoffs by 2 games.

Notable in-house signings by the Rays:
Andy Sonnanstine - 1y/1700
Andrew Miller - 2y/3000
Shawn Riggans - 1y/1500
Joey Votto - 2y/8500
Ben Zobrist - 2y/8000

Going into spring training it seems that Elliot Johnson may have the 2B role secured, and Adam LaRoche with either the 1B/DH role. The only question mark is RF for the Rays; Nate Schierholtz and Gabe Gross should be competing for the open slot.

Rays payroll/cap - 86960/87500

No roster moves were made over the past couple of months as the Rays have released their opening day roster. Luke Rush and Shawn Riggans will split playing time behind the plate for a while until further known. The same can be said with Nate Schierholtz and Gabe Gross at RF.

April 2nd, 2012

sorry y'all i like unconsciously skimmed through the post-game menus after the game so i had to take different pictures. luckily it was the first game of the season so their season stats only show the 1 game.

The Rays lost to the Orioles to start the season; Miller gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th which erased their 1-0 lead. Miller has been shaky going back to last season so his Closer role leash has to be pretty short. If his struggles continue, look for Affeldt or another reliever to step into the closer role. Kazmir threw 7 shutout innings with only 3 K's but wasn't extremely efficient has he had a high pitch count at the end of the 7th.

As for rotating Rush/Riggans and Schierholtz/Gross i will have them play 13 games and then the other will play 13 games. This will line up with my simming pattern so you should see them each play in the show-case games for a while until one clearly deserves the playing time.
