The Rays improved to a miraculous 14-0 on the season after beating the Blue Jays 3 to 0. Scherzer racked up 12 K over 8 IP while Miller closed it out. The Rays' bats woke up late in the game and put a 3 spot on the board.

Verlander pitched his heart about but Kershaw bested him. Verlander came out with 16 K over 7 IP with 2 ER. The Rays put on 3 more runs in the 9th inning to secure their lead. The Rays fell down to Earth a bit after going 16-0 (7-6 recently).

Miller locked down his 13th save of the season after the Rays beat the Royals 4-1. Speaking of the bullpen, Burgos has established himself in the setup role, bumping Logan to general relief.

(was going to play Sandberg in this game but had a 1 day injury, which fell on this game. will be in the lineup after this one)

Jaramillo tossed a CG SO against the Twins, improving to a sparkling 8-0 on the season (in 9 games started). While being excellent on the season, he produced a lot of contact outs in this affair and managed to get out of trouble in the 9th after giving up back-to-back hits.

The Rays needed the help of extra innings to beat the Cardinals 4-2. Chiasson and Volquez had a great combined 10 IP with Miller cleaning up. This team is rolling right now; even with a more average HR total, their team OBP (and BA) along with the starters have been great. A .712 W% predicts them at 115 wins.

also not sure why the AI 1) put millar at 1B over pujols and 2) why they pulled pujols without relocating him to 1B

Before the draft, the Rays announced they have unconditionally released Cliff Lee. Lee most likely played his last MLB game a few days ago, ending with a 8.44 ERA through 10.2 IP. Brian Bruney was called up to take his place.

With the draft, the Rays had the 29th overall pick in each round:

1st round 29th overall - Mark Peric (1B)
2nd round 59th overall - Andrew McConnell (LF)

These players may be a couple years away before having an impact on the MLB team.

Kazmir looked to receive a heart-breaking loss after going 8 IP with only 1 ER until Giambi's walk-off hit in the 9th. Trammell (rookie) was incredible - 2 hits through the first 8 innings incredible - for the Orioles as he was 1 out away from a CG SO. He unfortunately left the game with elbow-soreness. Jim Hoey only threw 1 pitch and that was off Giambi's bat. Aubrey Huff took a terrible route (couldn't have happened to a nicer person lmfao) to the blooper by the RF foul-line allowing Crawford and Gemoll to both score.

The Rays' have tumbled recently, going 2-10 in the past 12 and this game broke a 6-game losing streak. This may heat up their trading needs soon.

The Rays fired out 3 trades over the last week or so. (you can notice that the salary went up by about 450, i will show who was picked up in the next post)

The first trade was with the Mariners (38-44) who sent over:

Jack Cust - 5y/470
Raul Ibanez - 3y/510
and the players that Mariners received are
Elijah Dukes - 1y/500
Nate Schierholtz - 1y/600
.
.
The second trade was with the White Sox (44-47) who sent:

Johnny Cueto - 1y/730
Justin Upton - 2y/1270
and the players that White Sox received are
Neal Totten - 1y/500
Brian Bannister - 1y/1580
Aaron Hill - 2y/440
along with 13000 cash
.
.
The third trade was with the Twins (48-43) who sent:
Adam Everett - 3y/450
Jeremy Accardo - 3y/480
and the player that Twins received is
Eric Patterson - 1y/390
along with 5000 cash
.
.
Some familiar names returned to the Rays: Cust and Cueto.
-
The trade with the Mariners seemed to be removing salary with buying out contracts; as for the Rays part, it allows them to possibly have some OF depth for longer than 1 year as Schierholtz and Dukes were set to be FA and most likely would not want to continue to be a bench player. Ibanez is 44 years old with 3 years left, Cust is 37 years old with 5 years left. Not sure how much longer they'd be able to hang around in the majors.
-
The trade with the White Sox appeared to be a rotation upgrade. After a generational playoff stretch by Bannister, in 2015, he finds himself no longer on a contending team. Cueto looks to take his slot in the rotation. Both are potential FA after this season. And surprisingly, the home-grown LF, Totten was told to pack his bags after being with the organization for 6 years. It seems that he just hasn't found any rhythm with his bat; a .225 BA with a minuscule 3 HR. He was the 30th overall pick in 2010. While still being 24 years young, maybe this new scenery could alter his career in a more positive way.
-
The trade with the Twins would just be for bench and depth upgrades. After Hill was traded, the Rays need an extra IF glove on the bench. Everett may not see an AB in the future, but still has nice glove work. Accardo could take over a reliever role if anyone is sent down to AAA.

A FA acquisition was made before all the trades occurred. The Rays picked up Alex Gordon and signed him to a 1y/450 deal. He'll look to hold down LF as his glove and bat are above average.

posted team layout after all 4 transactions have been completed. (PS: Sandberg is the primary catcher.. Lizarraga was just getting a week's worth of games)

Rays' FA acquisitions used/allowed - 3/3 (maxed out for 2016)
Rays' FA trades used/allowed - 3/3 (maxed out for 2016)
Rays' payroll/cap - 96510/96500 (no one can see this lol)

Scherzer's only fault was giving up a solo HR to Grimm. As for the Rays HR have been few and far between but found themselves on a 9 game win streak spacing away the Yankees.

Before the game, AJ Burnett was optioned to AAA and Jeremy Accardo was called up. Burnett was the only reliever with an ERA over 3.50 (has a 5.13 ERA through 52.2 IP) and finds himself in an uphill battle to make it to the majors again.

A little trouble in the bottom of the 9th, but Miller managed to earn the save and give the Rays a win over the Angels. The Rays' pitching staff has a combined MLB best 3.49 ERA. As long as that part of the team holds, their bats might find a good streak soon.

A-Gon walked-off the Yankees in a 3-2 win. The Rays and Yankees swapped the lead 3 times. Burgos had a little trouble in the 8th inning which gave the 9th inning and extra frame.

The Rays defeated the Red Sox 8-3 with a team combined 18 hits. Jaramillo's record now improves to 12-4 on the season and racked up 8 K. Jaramillo is 2nd in the league in producing groundball outs at 142 (Daisuke Matsuzaka is #1 with 147). Which also makes his GB% 2nd among qualified pitchers at a 55%.
(somehow Verlander's at 57.3% GB rate tops the league (123 total GB), even though he has flyball pitcher and no fastball vairant pitch??? 5.34 ERA too)

The Rays lowered their magic number to 9 after beating the O's 7-2. Seems that the O's ran out of pitching options hence BJ Ryan getting the start.

And for future reference, I dont think im gonna do 13 show case games unless it's a close division race. So basically each pitcher gets 2 shown starts. If it is a close race, then i'll gladly pop out another post on a regular season game. But for now, expect the season to end from this one; i'll be posting stats
